Yep, only other show still going that might be or should be real is Mountain Men and the show I do not watch Naked and Afraid/XL version thought the second has claims of not being real and Mountain Men 2 of the guys faking it. Everything else currently is fake/redone after it happened or had some major big incident that took down the show. Where are some of the shows that were real like Dirty Jobs or River Monsters/Ocean Monsters? gone with the more hunting/fishing shows being protested and if not, faked/stupid scandals taking down the show.

Yes. Alone is great, and so far the producers have not ruined it. Mountain Men is OK but there is so much over dramatization by the narrator, as well as some really ignorant script. For example, Eustace once went to a secret salt brine hole to collect salt because, according to the narrator, it was free from preservatives, unlike grocery store-purchased salt! I couldn't believe the narrator said something so stupid! Salt IS a preservative! What would you preserve it with, more salt? 😂

Just watching them lay around the majority of the time would get boring. I liked the mix of both. And when they cast the show I think they look for that mix. Season 5 Sam, our young Mighty Mouse killer, won he came in with his reserves packed on his body in fat and we did not see him much in the shows at all as, I believe, he was laying around conserving calories. Why did they forget all about Desmond from season 2 who barely lasted 6 hours because he underestimated his fears of the bear presence which he never actually even saw aside from a few piles of bear poop?! This video claims the earliest tap out was an ex police officer from another season and completely forgot about poor Desmond. The guy who said at his going away party “If you see me fighting a bear you better come in and save the bear” and “I’ll never tap out. I’ll be coming out 20 pounds heavier wearing a bear skin coat!” Personally I loved Desmond. I think he taught every future contestant a valuable lesson. Too bad the producers go out of their way to exclude Desmond’s brief journey in their stories about the show. Even Hulu won’t let you see season 2 episode 1 for fear you might see Desmond’s embarrassment. He tapped out when he saw what he felt was too much bear scat!

I've never liked reality shows, but have been entranced by Alone. Initially, it's interesting to see how the contestants get themselves set up using their skills, but as time goes on and things start to get intense, it becomes interesting to see the psychological aspect and guess how I'd behave. If they were downed bush pilots waiting for eventual rescue, thoughts of being reunited with their families back home would be what might sustain them going through hardships, but here, they're missing them but can tap out any time. Also, they have to rationalize whether they're risking their lives by staying vs. the good the money will bring the family. Overcoming the option to tap out must get really challenging as things start to get difficult. I like a lot of solitude, but I don't think I'd like it to that extreme, even in a well-appointed cabin, beyond a few weeks. I don't love the singing and mugging to the camera that some do, but I get it. It's just a very interesting show to me....
@SonnyCrocket-p6h10 ай бұрын
they dont know what to take or do, or in what order. In 3 days, I can show you how to do better. They waste 1-3 weeks on a shelter, that is so poor that they have to waste 2 more weeks on firewood. Then they waste a week by boiling 2 qts of water 3x per day, 1/2 hour each time They can't even figure out how to store their boiled water! I can show you how to stone-boil the water in a clay-lined pit, 5 gallons at a time, less than 1 hour being needed, twice per week. Which is better, 10 hours wasted, or 2 hours, hmm? Make a basket, line it with a hunk of tarp ( which you carefully water-proof spray and test while still at home) and store the 5 gallons of water, hanging it on a tree, where you can peek out of your shelter and arrow any animal that is on your water bag.

Ask yourself this question: What is the difference between a reality show and Documentary series? It's important to understand the difference other than a reality show tends to be a competition. In this YT video it brings up the concept of "early exit by design". Nearly all reality shows cast "Pawns" that the producers know will make the show interesting to watch, but the pawns have one or more significant flaw that will prevent them from winning. The pawns don't know they are pawns, and they do have an equal chance of winning, they just are not aware that they were selected because they have a far less chance of winning than players that have all skills needed to win. In some reality series, such as Survivor or Big Brother, there are only between 4-6 players that have any chance of winning, all the rest of the players are simply pawns in the game. A reality TV series is far more like a Las Vegas magic show than reality, it looks real, but if you knew what goes on behind the scenes, you would realize it is far less real than it appears on TV.

Drill out the mounting holes on the ferrule of the Cold steel shovel, Tig-weld some bits of drill rod across the ends of the longer, larger OD bolts Weld matching nuts on the female side of the ferrule. This mod lets the shovel's handles be changed quickly, without tools. Change the angle of the corner on one side of the shovel's blade and create 8" of real deal saw-teeth on that side. Heat that side of the shovel and hammer it flat, removing the curve of the blade for about 2" below the teeth. Case-harden those teeth.Once you launch, make several different configurations/lengths of handle for the shovel. The existing handle and the two handed axe handle (with stone weight lashed to the blade) should be tapered ovals, so as to increase the accuracy of your swings and to relieve stress on your hands, wrists and forearms.

From some one who spwnds days at a time in the bush hereall the I can tell you there might not be bears and such but we have 19 of the 20 deadliest snakes in the world in large consecration salt water crocodile that can grow over 20ft and have a 1 bite kill wild dogs that hunt in packs and can be aggressive along with things like goanna that make you very sick if bitten and have been know to run up humans like trees cutting deep cuts all over your body there is plenty here that can kill you!! Some of there casting requirements were aboriginal bush knowledge so be prepared to learn how the oldest living culture survives in a very unsurvivibale land

I only discovered "Alone" a few days ago as I don't watch TV or have cable. Prime has 5 full seasons. I binged them all in a couple days. I also learned 2 of the contestants got together(seperate seasons) and have a baby now! Awww I would very happily live like they do on Alone in Ontario Canada further north then where I live. I eat/wild veggies and stuff off lawns all the time! 😆 Unfortunately, due to brutal health issues, I can't even hike into the deep woods and camp anymore. Meh. I will live vicariously though them!!

nobody has handled it, they have all just starved. Jordan lost 25 lbs and 5 of that was after he got the moose. The ox-torturer lost 44 lbs, You cant choke down enough lean meat or fish to not lose weight. You have to make a lot of netting out of the cotton rope hammock, use it to catch several hundred lbs of fish and use 100 lbs of fish to bait in a 300 lb black bear, fat for the winter. Bears are 25% bodyfat when ready to hibernate. They are the same as pigs, basically. Bear meat is as fatty as pork, for the same reason. They will eat anything

Surviving alone is very interesting to watch, because I like to imagine if I ever had to do that. But I like dual survival. It's better for mental health. And adds a more fun dynamic, seeing how two people's skills combine.

when you dont waste a week on a shelter-build, a week on boiling water and 2 weeks on firewood, you can easily make the raft, chumline, netting, kiln, charcoal and pottery, and you'll be WAY ahead if you do it my way You can either eat the 3 lbs of fish and 1/2 lb of cambium per day (2100 calories) requiring that you catch 400 lbs of fish or eat 1/4 that much fish and use 50 lbs of whole fish and 50 lbs of fishheads and guts to bait in a bear (fat for hibernation) and arrow it (at 10m) from a tree-blind that's 20 ft off of the ground.

animals cannot gnaw thru cordage that is holding them in midair. So taking the two person cotton rope hammock lets you not need the snarewire, the paracord, the fishing kit or the gillnet. you can make 20x as much netting from the hammock as you can take as one of your 10 items, with plenty of cordage left over for camp needs. saving those 3 picks lets you take the rations of pemmican and trail-mix, as well as the salt. Those 3 things are vital to your ability to function well until you can make enough netting to start feeding yourself adequately. If you want to be able to digest cambium, it has to be diced, boiled, fried and consumed with fat. Otherwise, you have to know to chew it, and then spit it out the remaining fibers. After your saliva has dissoved the starches in it, get rid of the cellulose fibers, so that they dont lock up your guts.

I love this show. will be watching it until it's ever cancelled. I also have a little ulterior motive. In the deep wilds of the pacific northwest, it's only time before someone gets bigfoot on tape! lol. but, seriously, takes a hell of a strong person to compete here. physically and mentally.

MY BMI Was 12% for years from pedal biking over 600km a week and As a body builder in my teens and 20's. Carly was pulled to soon. As an adult I'm anti social. One of the biggest things I've noticed is Stamina. A lot of the people don't have the stamina. The mind set you need to be ready to die and that everyone you known is dead.

none know to practice at home making the tent. Use cheap clear sheet plastic from Home Depot, wally's , lowe's. Mark the outlines of the tent pieces on the plastic and assemble theme. Change what is needed. then copy those outlines onto your tarp, using permanent ink. You can get a bottle of adhesive release-agent so that you can remove the tape and change things a bit. Saves trouble and money. Then you can assemble the tent in an hour, after taking 1-2 hours to source and process the poles you need for the tent. That's all you need in the way of a shelter for a month. Then you can add the external pole frame in a 1-2 hours, depending on how long it took to source the poles. Same time should suffice to source and add the 6" thick layer of dry debris. Another hour should suffice to put the 10x16 ft tarp that they give you over the debris, make the stakes, get the tarp tied-down securely., with bent-green sticks, in a "u" shape, serving as bungees at the tie off points, so the tarp is not so easily torn in the wind. Lay some boughs on the tarp so it doesn't flap in the wind. On day 60, remove the tarp. Fold it in half, stuff it with 6" of dry debris, Fold it in half again and tie the edges. Presto, sleeping bag. Put the reflective tyvek bivy inside of this bag. Remove enough of the debris-stuffing inside of the tent to let you put the debris-bag on the 8" high raised pole-bed. Replace as much of the stuffing back into the tent as possible. Wet down the exterior of the debris on the tent and add a 2" thick layer of wet debris. Do this at dusk. Let it freeze overnight. Repeat this step 2x more, for a total of 6" of frozen debris, on top of 6" of dry compressed debris. You'll have a foot thick layer of dry, compressed debris around you inside of the tent, too, as well as 8 layers of clothing and 7 layers of debris between the clothing layers. You'll be just fine at 0F degrees and no heat source inside of the tent.

I've watched many seasons of Alone and what I think is very unfair is that some contestants are placed in an area where they are already set to FAIL! I've seen some locations where the water is calm, barely any wind and they have great opportunity's for food in water and on land compared to some where they had to deal with strong winds and waves crashing into their shoreline on a daily where fishing was next to impossible and hunting consitions was just the shi@ts! I really think ALL contestants should be placed in locations where they all have equla chances...

those lakes are well-proven to be full of big fish. Net fishing has always been at least 10x more effective than hook and line fishing. When you can't use treblehooks, barbed hooks or organic bait, which is the case in Canada, you'll catch almost nothing on hook and line.

body weight is tricky because modern people have a lot of excess weight from eating grains and other harmful food so when they go into an environment where they eat fish game and wild plants they do lose weight but not necessarily in a bad way. I remember one contestant who was 50 pounds over weight and when he lost about 40 pounds he was pulled from the show even though he had plenty of food
