Matt is the only guy in the room that has won an event on Beaver Lake. Let alone 2! Rogers, Ar native and I will say Beaver lake is a lake that changes everyday. Matt did it twice. Before live scope. Now that we have live scope it’s not even close to the same. Winning on Beaver before live scope is a true testament to a real bass fisherman.

I think this was probably the best podcast to be honest..Matt and Chris shared their thoughts along with DC. Would have loved to hear more from Randy on FFS. For me, some technology is great for certain species of fish but bass fishing should stay as a Sport to see who can actually match wits with the bass.
@zacperkins21772 ай бұрын
DC said something that made me think. What if guys had to stop fishing when they had 5 fish in the boat? Basically you start culling with 4 in the boat and #5 in your hand. But as long as there are 5 in the livewell you cant fish. How confident can you be that you can get #5 in the boat b4 weigh in otherwise your showing up 1 fish short for the day. It might be an interesting element.
@GetBentFishingGa2 ай бұрын
Yes and no because they would be like I need five when time started becoming the factor. So then if you come in with 4 fish most of the time it’s mental like what happened to milikan
@zacperkins21772 ай бұрын
@ it would def be mental thing. DC was talking about the crappie guys pull up on a spot carch their limit then they are done is what made me think of this. It would really make you think if its worth tossing that #5 2.5lb back to try and upgrade and educate/disturb more fish. Or do you take what you have for the day and graph other spots or put the boat on the trailer. Maybe play the score tracker and see if you think you have a bag big enough to stay in it. Or risk coming in a fish short. Its probably nothing close to what would ever happen but it was an interesting thought.

Enjoyed this chat with all of you guys! Very informative and interesting. I giggle every time when someone brings up the analogy with the bat technology in MLB vs the technology in fishing. It’s not for the homer’s so much as it was the safety and the speed the ball comes off the bats. College uses the latest and greatest bats and they aren’t bombing at every at bat and there are some awesome athletes in those ranks as well.

I used to Deer hunt some on a major creek at Lake Allatoona in Ga. On tournament day Saturday sometimes I would count 50 boats going up there before 11 am. And that’s a winter time boat ramp tournament. Double that times 10 on a major lake with major tournaments.

Wish I was live with y'all. I started pro fishing in 1970, in the 80's we implanted transmitters in bass and tracked them, some bass live in that deep water all their lives except the short time they go shallow to spawn (us old guides/guys already knew that), likewise some live shallow all their life. The bass haven't changed, there is just cycles where certain colors, types of lures, etc. work. At one time (80"s) on Toledo Bend tequila sunrise worm was the color for a few years, but that changed, red rattle trap in the spring now it's square bill, people and lures change but the fish don't. Chris, John Cox, Hackney, myself (at 74), and a few others can kick these flat billed scoppers tail if we strip that spotlight off their boat. I fish behind "speedsters" but slow down and fish lures that are not the most hyped thing on the market and kick butt, I also fish deep offshore using a $99 depth finder and hold my own.

In the north, states are investigating if they need to lower panfish limits because scopers are becoming more efficient during open water and ice fishing. The populations of panfish are noticeably getting decimated. Then it becomes a wealthy man’s game because the average fishermen doesn’t have and can’t afford a live scope set up. So the minority of fishermen are having a major effect on the majority of fisherman.

DC DC could it be this 😮. For example my home lake Carters Lake in North Ga. Since the late 90s I’ve had the relearn how to fish it 3 times. Always been a spotted bass lake. You could catch 15 to 17 lbs of the bank. Then that started to change. Was it because of technology and pressure NO it was the introduction of Blue Back Herring. So we adjusted. To fishing offshore suspended fish. No with the introduction of Alwife herring we have adjusted to fishing offshore bottom fishing sometimes 80 ft because the alewife’s stay deep on the bottom. Those fish in my opinion were not always there because until the introduction of herring there was nothing out there for them to eat 24 hours a day. Is it possible this happened every where you fish.
@johnmango60562 ай бұрын
The bank will never get good again as long as the body of water you’re fishing gets a decent amount of pressure. Fishing is simply too easy to learn at this point. I hadn’t touched a fishing rod in about 15 years and learned a lifetime of knowledge in a couple years just watching KZbin videos.

The introduction of Livescope Plus is when the FFS technology became good enough so we were able to start targeting those roaming schools and target fish beyond just using livescope to make accurate casts at structure and cover. LVS 32 vs LVS 34 is night and day difference in the amount of power to catch a fish. Add to that the 12inch+ HD and FULL HD screens, then add BPT selling everyone in the tournament world on buying it, and it is game over for the bass. Too many tournaments and technology on the same lakes with not enough focus on conservation. Barbless hooks and no hooking fish in practice needs to be strongly considered with a big dose of respect for the fishery, other anglers and the property owners that live on these tournament lakes, if we want to protect our sport. I'm so disappointed in the tournament industry by how poorly they allowed these fisheries to be abused by allowing so much fishing pressure that I have gone from spending about $40k a year on fishing down to $500 over the past 6 months and soon it will be $0. It's time to make some improvements to the conservation side of tournament fishing before it is too late.

I feel to with all the pressure.. these "minnow" baits look about as similar to what they are eating.. they don't have an option they have to eat... Now while it's "cheating" as Matt mentioned a few times.. I would tell people if it was cheating we would all win, all the pros have it but they don't all win.. equal playing field, it's just hard for old school seasoned anglers even though they know they need to do it it's hard.. these young boys don't know what can happen or has happened on the bank in the past.. this is all they know so they have perfected it

Environment changes like fishing pressure and human activity affect bass behavior. Fishermen with the use of FFS are catching bass that no one fished for that’s why it’s so hot right now. Bass have always gone out and suspended over 50 foot of nothing we just didn’t know that or have the ability to watch a bait and control it to make it go by their noses

3 fish limit across the board at all levels is the answer to FFS. It will allow traditional fishing to be more competitive with FFS and would protect the resource. Ray Scott changed from 10 to 5 fish limit it's time to evolve again. This would also encourage amatures to not feel like they have to have FFS to compete plus a whole lot more things. Without traditional fishing there won't be a fishing industry big enough to support professional fishing and without professional fishing there's no enovation you guys keep the industry moving forward with bait development and if all that matters is a jighead minnow how long is that going to last ?
@bdub4402 ай бұрын
But Chris, being able to see the fish, hit your casting target, and catching the fish are three different things. I’ve watched a whole host of tournaments where Dustin and others will say that they can see em, but they ain’t biting.

FFS does not guarantee that the angler is going to set the hook on a fish. I think the bass may be becoming aware of the sound of the transducer more and more.
@thrillerdylan2 ай бұрын
@@bdub440exactly. Chris Lane is just a hater. FFS is not an automatic fish catching machine. Anybody that’s actually used it knows that

Matt hit a point. Fishing is a blue collar sport. For anglers to invest in the sport it's too expensive. It's not about rods reels bait, it's about transducers. You lose the investment that sponsors need. Pros are eating their own.

I’ve fished the biggest crappie tournaments for years, everyone had 8 rods on their boat trolling before live. You couldn’t have paid me to fish a tournament that way. The main difference is pressure. No one will fully understand until they have been in a pro tournament with three days of practice just how much the fish turn off. If active target has done anything it has shown just how many fish there are in these lakes and how they just refuse to bite after a few days.
