You guys for sure have some ramp stories ,once at Fork on a tournament day we were lined up at west side 515 ramp before daylight and this guy was having issues . He could not get the boat off of the trailer and he kept getting back in the truck backing up. Finally he was literally floating his trailer and still could not figure it out. My partner got out to help and this guy was redlining near stroke, Bob asked him about his tiedowns , he got so mad he took out his pocket knife and cut the straps he cut them like someone in an adrenaline surge. This is a great idea cause I got lots more.🤣

Love the stories guys!!! When I was a kid, we were fishing a pond. My buddy had the biggest damn spinner bait you’ve ever seen. He rares back to cast 600yds and forgets to flip the bar on his spinning reel, casts and as I threw my hands up because I could hear the velocity of his spinner bait flying through the air. He hooks me in the thumb and that shark hook went completely through my thumb from the palm side to the backside. It felt like he set the hook on a 15lb bass because the bail wasn’t released. Damn near jerked me into the water off the bank!

Them getting hooked stories bringing back flashbacks… 8 years old me and my dad are fishing, he’s throwing like the biggest topwater popper made, gets it hung in an oak limb, he goes to pulling back and that mug lets loose and is coming back like a fastball, well he jumps in front of me to keep it from hitting me… 20 minutes later we walk into the ER and the nurse literally says “in 22 years I’ve never seen anything like this”! He’s got 2 out of the 3 hooks on a treble hook buried behind his nipple! I mean barb and everything! That treble hook is tied off to a nail and hangs off the side of his dresser to this day!

I went 45 years without getting a hook in me past the barb. In the last 2 years I've managed to do it 6 times. First time it was a 12/0 weighted snatch hook, then 2 rattle traps, 2 jerk baits, and a whopper plopper. Mark is exactly right, as soon as it goes in you need to immediately get to work on getting it out. It will slip right out if you can pull it out exactly the same angle it went in. The longer you wait the more tender and sorer it gets.

I went to let off the hot foot and a sprite can had some how got hung up behind the pedal and wouldn't let the throttle back down by the time i figured out what was going on the big wave was upon us i pulled the kill switch we hit the wave luckily launched at almost perfect angle at bout 5 foot out the water all u heard was motor out the water we land and coasted a ways thank god it worked out in our favor. I remember my first tournament at 18. Blew the motor I had worked on for over a year coming off the start line. I was furious. My dad signed for a new merc that night, but I couldn’t fish my first tournament.. I sometimes wonder how it would have gone if id tried to go pro. Instead I started a fishing charter and guide service,24 years later I have 9 saltwater charter boats and 4 fly fishing cabins with 27 employees for 9 months a year. I get to fish Bluefin, yellowfin, Striper, and the odd mistakenly hooked shark in the salt water, and fly fish on the best Atlantic salmon and Trout rivers in the world. I took 3 clients out this morning, in at 11am, and I’ll take them out again around 5 for a few hours. I’m booked from April 1st to October 15 a year ahead, so I probably made the correct choice. The only hard part is training hands for our saltwater operations, and the paperwork. Still I often wonder how far I could have gone if I had continued down the tournament path. I’m living vicariously through my 17 year old son. He wants to be a pro bass fisherman. He won his provincial high school league last year. I wanted him to go through a university fishing program, but he’s dead set on the 2025 opens. He graduates next month, and he doesn’t know there’s a new Chev 3.0L Deisel and an FXR 20 Apex waiting for him when he walks out of his graduation June 20th. He wants to be a pro, I worked hard enough to give him the chance I probably couldn’t have afforded to take at the time. He was stopping himself from crying the other day when Van Dam caught the 7lb 12oz lunker on the final day. He said he’d always dreamed of competing against him. It choked me up a bit. He’s a hell of a kid and a great fisherman. Thanks for giving me something to watch as I do the mundane desk work required of me! It lets me reflect and think about what could have been. And to watch my son do it with so much enthusiasm is a gift I never could have hoped for. God bless you all.

You think it's bad doing it in a bass boat, try launching a cabin cruiser off a tour boat wake. Our first trip to Lake Powell we were motoring down the main channel and this big ass tour boat goes by us. The wake was huge, I was driving and looked at dad with a look, he looked at me and I knew what had to be done. I put the hammer down and got all of that 24' of that cabin cruiser out of the water. We landed on what felt like concrete, I hit the floor, my mom launched down into the cabin, my two buddies that were sleeping on the back deck woke up airborne. The second wave came over the top but didn't make it to the windshield. Never again.

We tried taking it to court and fighting it and the judge seriously looked at us and said,”If you don’t want to pay the ticket fine, don’t speed through my town. 71 is more than 70. Have a good day. Court is dismissed.”…… We ain’t went above 65 through Clarksville since that day.
