“The dam is breaking!” Have the Democrats reached their “break glass in case of emergency” moment? This week, Michelle, Ross and Lydia dig into the Democratic Party fissures, consider what could happen if President Biden refuses to bow out, and debate just how much this moment mirrors the Republican scramble against Trump in 2016.

I would rather have lost with Bernie than won with Biden. Trump would be gone after this election, and Biden would been gone for four years now. There would not have been a January 6 insurrection, and this Supreme Court immunity for everything would also never have happened. Nothing that Biden has done as President is that wonderful that a Democratic President couldn't implement it next year. And obviously, we wouldn't be in this mess now! After this election, the Dems will be out of the White House for a long time.

And it's worse still. Much like Trump engaging in business fraud in furtherance of election fraud, so too did the DNC & Hillary campaign (2016) and DNC and Biden campaign (2020). In both instances, Bernie supporters were swindled out of money (hundreds of millions) they believed to be going toward a 'fair & balanced' nomination process only to find out that both Hillary and Joe were chosen by party operatives. If Trump was charged and convicted ...

@ijadrian

How can you be more democratic than a primary where 13 million Democrats voted? The problem is no one else will run. Whitmer, Booker, and Beshear have all said they are not running. They know that running in a three month window, when you don't have access to the Biden/Harris money, is not a winning proposition because you never know what skeletons might pop out. They are smartly waiting for when they can run in 2028 when they have the time to properly build a campaign to gain name recognition and raise funds.

Why the super negative takes on the logistics of shifting candidates? Here's a counter - it would be an exciting change in a way we've never seen in our lifetimes. It would be a sign that the party is listening to the concerns of voters. It would be change when the majority of Americans want something else other than these two candidates. It's a huge opportunity of energy and excitement if handled right.

They are Florida Representative Val Demings 67, Illinois Senator (and Purple Heart recipient) Tammy Duckworth 56, former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Bottoms 54, and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, 64. I’m sure that,, by now, many more - and younger ones -- could be added to this 4-year-old list. If DEI is not a factor, there are two names of the many mentioned in the media that favor. Consideration Biden’s frailty, I think that these two powerful governors could plausibly accept a VP position, while envision themselves as president before the end of the 2024 term. Ideal, it seems to me, is battleground State Governor of North Carolina Roy Cooper. He is reaching his 2-term limit in January 2025 and won his office in a red state against the incumbent. My dream candidate (fantasy) is Maryland Governor Wes Moore. Could you imagine this handsome Rhodes Scholar who received a basketball scholarship from Johns Hopkins (but ended up as a wide receiver instead) alongside newly-promoted 5’5” V.P. Mike Johnson? He is not, however, from a battleground state

I've come around to the opinion after being up in the air myself that the best path forward is Kamala Harris at the top with Gretchen Whitmer as VP. Yesterday, Whitmer said she was open to being the VP nominee if Harris was at the top. I would have preferred Whitmer at the top, but this achieves many important objectives. It's the least disruptive, Whitmer would likely bring along the 3 Rust belt states which is super, super important. Plus, Harris could probably run the country having seen some of the behind the scenes happening. It wouldn't upset the black population and would satisfy Biden since he really believes in her. Last, they would be able to use the campaign funds. BTW, this talk of risk is crazy. Biden is going to lose anyway, so the dumbest thing would be to do nothing.

Nobody is electing 2 women. NOBODY. Whether they would be best or not, they wouldn't have a chance.

@@EarlyRiser71 In normal times that may be true, but here their alternative would be Trump. Independents, who decide elections, prefer somebody other than Trump.

@EarlyRiser71 the right women, yes. Whitmer is fine. K Harris has her own problems regardless or race and gender.

we're so used to trump's lies it's no longer a 'story' .. if joe had these moments 3 years ago we'd be used to them .. as he took care of covid and passed some great bills .. 'oh it's just joe flubbing again' ..

Yes, so typical that the NYT and the rest of the corporate press have been giving Trump passes all of these past 8 years. I don't think you know the meaning of the word *drivel. Maybe stick to using more basic language next time.
