Spot on analysis as always Stone. The 5 steps backward to make one step forward resonates. I feel like if the Warzone 2 release was more like what we have now, we'd have an incredible game by now. It's also frustrating that they've made this game not fun for casual players like me who don't have time to grind weapons and attachments. They need to give options outside of the 3 gun meta-system they have always had. Make more guns fun to use and easy to use for us BOTS, simplify the attachments. There's like 5 million of them and you can only really use like 5.

I was never into Battle Royales and the only thing that got me back into CoD was DMZ. The unrealistic movement, and super fast TTK always turned me off. DMZ gave me an experience I'd never had before in a video game and I really loved it. My friends and I eventually started playing WZ2 as well and I actually enjoyed it. Although we were never top players we did manage to win a few games the nights we played. I liked that it was a bit slower paced and a bit more tactical. What I've since come to learn is that I am in the minority and most OG players prefer the faster movement, sliding cancelling, drop shotting, and jump shotting mechanics. I've been playing video games since I was a kid, but by the time competitive FPS games really took off, I was well into my twenties and didn't have much time to play. I think I'm a pretty decent player, considering my age (43) but at this point I know I'm as good as I'm ever going to be. No amount of practice will ever get me on the level to compete with the younger generation that grew up playing with the super fast paced movement and gunplay and it kind of makes me sad. My squad and I play a few nights a week, but it is super sweaty and we've yet to even win one game in standard Battle Royale. We place in the top 10 often and sometimes even the top 5, but we have yet to secure a dub. I wish there was some sort of middle ground between tactical gameplay and super fast gameplay. If they at least toned down the SBMM, I'd probably stand a better chance. Lol. GGs Stone. Always enjoy the content. Keep it up.

Honestly DMZ is what brought me to Warzone. Played MP since it was first brought to COD and never had any interest in Warzone when it came out. Fast forward to today and I'm still playing DMZ and still enjoying it even without the updates. DMZ will be my go to mode with the occasional Warzone round and mix in MP. Really hoping they focus on making Warzone, DMZ, Zombies, and multiplayer great without so many additional versions/optional games modes that completely break on every update.

I really miss WZ 1, it was the most fun I ever had playing videogames online, the timing of the release (as you said), the "Warzone?" in the group chat with the boys, dropping Superstore, getting sniped from top Hospital, the bunkers keycards, Stadium campers, DAMN I'm getting emotional... I really wanted a realistic PvP BR, I had all I wanted, then Cold War came and it was all gone. I remember the day I stopped playing, I was so frustrated for ANOTHER DMR death. I didn't buy CW so I had 0 viable guns during that period. That was the end. Give me a MW BR and I will shut up.

​@@SurgeeonI think maybe you play mainly to win, and others play mainly to have fun with other things (or at least the fun doesn't primarily come from getting the win). If the game makes you use a gun you don't like some people might enjoy it overall less and less. I personally hated the old school WW2 style guns. I was equally super bummed when BF turned away from modern guns like they had in BF4 and switched to old guns like in BF1 and 5. I legit stopped playing them all because they just weren't interesting to me. I've been playing the finals now, and wow that game is so amazing

@@imorokr I actually play for the mechanics of games not the weapons. All the weapons in wz1 functioned exactly the same apart from having higher ttk when meta changed. They were just skins at the end of the day and didn’t mess with the core mechanics. Unlike mw2/3 . The finals has some of the worst weapon mechanics I’ve ever felt. But then again ur guaranteed to be a controller player saying it feels amazing.

I've always felt verdansk, while not a perfect map was the best map they had. It wasn't a typical high to low elevation starting from near the center map. Whether it's rebirth, fortunes keep, ashika, Caldera, al mazrah, they all suffer from the same high ground near the center to break up the map. Verdansk had a slightly different approach to map design, which urzikstan definitely leans into. The truth is if they had good servers and net code and a very good anti cheat, the game could still be extremely fun. Heck, just the latter of those would probably make a tremendous improvement to fun and bring back a ton of players. All 3 would being implemented would see it probably reach half it's peak

The fact that the massively over powered aim assist problem in MW3 wasn't brought up is a big miss. They really screwed up in this version by making AA over powered. It's necessary, don't get me wrong, but it's WAY too over powered. It's an issue that needs to be discussed more and the devs need pressure to slowly bring it down to how other games use it.

Not played for a good while. Would like rebirth island back. Loot that doesnt blend into the ground. Buy stations without submenus. Main menu that doesn't confuse the heck out of me. I'm a casual player without time to learn new menu layouts for every option, let me choose to enter wz on game load without showing the other menus unless i specifically choose something like "other cod games/modes" or "full cod menu". By casual, I have only around 14hrs across two weeks to play games or do other things, I won't waste my time trying to figure menus for any game, especially games that keep changing their layouts.

Right on the money. I used to play almost 15 hours a week. Now because all the changes they tried to implement, warzone 2 al mazrah was the last straw and I played 2-4 hours a week. I actually do enjoy the current movement, but they made us wait too long and got used to not playing as much. Current map has no memorable POI.

Great video. I’ve been thinking about why this game feels so different from the beginning and I have a few thoughts. First, the servers are terrible. You die to someone wonder how and realize they see something completely different than what you saw. Second, there’s some things in the game that don’t belong in a Battle Royale such as High Alert or redeploy flares. The number of second chances really take away from that feeling of a BR. In original Warzone if you died after gulag it was pretty much curtains. Now it’s not punishing cause the game has so much money and buys and forms of second chances that you can reset whenever. These are just a few issues but it’s why I don’t find it fun anymore.

verdansk was so well balanced with open areas, buildings etc, I think they will have problems to make another map so well balanced without this new crap with ropes you can launch away from. And then its to many different gadgets etc etc, WZ 1 - verdansk was so simple with tactics and explosives, 1 armor vest(or 2).

I stopped playing Warzone shortly after Warzone 2 came out and started playing Fortnite a lot more. Now I've started playing Warzone again with my OG squad and we are having a blast. I feel like the skill gap has returned making it a lot more exciting when you get a win. The biggest thing I look for in any game is The ability to grind for skins, guns etc. and obviously has to be fun and engaging. Any game that can provide that is the game I will be playing. Legitimately woke up today wishing we could go back to Caldera. The end of Caldera after updates is easily the peak of warzone as far as gameplay goes. The best game ever. RIP. Even if we get Verdansk back, the play style will never be the same. The new Fortune's Keep doesn't even hit the same. My friends and I stuck it out on Caldera until they closed the servers. Avoided WZ2 Al Mazrah at all costs. Urzikstan is much better but still ain't the same game.

I loved verdansk that shit was awesome played up until caldera. Kept playing but only played rebirth island or fortunes keep. Played 3 games of WZ2 and bounced never played again it just felt so different from what I had been playing for at that time 2 years.. even played in Afghanistan at the time. Caldera had issues at launch, but we still had rebirth to enjoy in the meantime! Caldera got fixed after a few months and I found it to be very enjoyable. When Warzone 2 came out there wasn't really anything to go back to while it got fixed. Even though it was limited, I miss that Warzone 1 isn't available for Caldera solos/quads to this day. I'd choose that over the current warzone we have today.

I don’t care what anyone says Infinity Word is still the GOAT out of all the Call of Duty devs. They might have messed up warzone 2 but remember everything we loved about the first one was because of them. I hate the overall look of the new version of Warzone right now with this darkish yellow filter. Even the map just before this new one looked way better. It actually looked like day time and not a cartoon. Even the textures are worse than just the map right before the news map. Sledgehammer and raven software have way cheaper graphics and overall looks compared to infinity word. Infinity word feels way more of a premium product. Yeah I know they messed up with the movement and a few other things with warzone 2 but excluding that.

Great video stone. My biggest suggestion to the cod devs is to focus on ranked. Not only does it give people a challenge to strive/grind for, it separates the sub 1KD players (me and my mates) from the 2kd and above, that are just rolling through my team!!! 😂

I absolutely felt fooled with the change to W2. I joined WZ one late but started loving it. I was ready to love W2 as well but I only really actually enjoyed DMZ - until my buddy stopped playing and eventually I did as well. Screw them, I'm never giving them another dollar. Felt so scammed - they deleted our stuff only to replace it with crap. Felt/feel like such a sucker. Oh well, I'm loving the finals now. That game's amazing and I can't wait to see how that evolves!

I actually really liked Al Maz as a map. I kind of enjoyed the slower pace as well. If they added LEANING (since the characters already effing do it) and combined the current loot system with mw2 it would’ve been a banger. This new map is okay but it feels kind of soulless and none of buildings make any damn sense to navigate. Plus aim assist is cranked to the absolute max. MW2 weapons need to be made viable, whats the point? All heavy bolt actions need to be one taps, even if they’re out to a certain range like they did with the Stalker. Overall its in a decent state. But goddamn theres nothing I want more than og Rebirth and Verdanks. It would make the game so much more fun just on nostalgia alone and I think all the new mechanics would actually work really well on them

I'm going to be a part of the minority here when I say that MW2 Warzone was better in terms of playability for everyone. Yes, the movement was slowed down, snipers were nerfed in their ability to kill, and yes, time to kill was atrociously long. But from a consumer's perspective and as someone who doesn't play video games for a living such as myself, I enjoyed my experience more in Mw2 Warzone because I was actually able to play the game and enjoy it. These lobbies now in Mw3 are very difficult to play against with everyone running around with meta weapons updated that very day and super sweaty slide tactics that makes it hard to shoot targets and win. This franchise will always struggle with its appeal of realistic, first person shooters, but if the player base wanted a game as hard and punishing as Tarkov, they'd be playing it already. A good game should not have its main selling point as a game for sweats. It should come with a basic system that allows players, if they are willing to invest the time, to improve upon the game's limitations and create natural skill gaps. Warzone 3 did a lot to correct many facets of the game that were changed for worse in Mw2, but I fear it pulled to hard to the other side where the game is difficult to enjoy if you don't have as much time as everyone else to play. Just my hot take and opinion. You're entitled to your own just as I am to mine. I hope we can all agree on this however; DMZ was great and needs to come back. You're not wrong on what yoiu're saying and I agree with most of this. However, I think that if they followed the schematics of fortnite and actually followed a storyline for warzone (which would integrate into the story of the yearly releases) And then changed the map or location it would've kept way more players. Because Caldera was buggy. Warzone 2 was so bad that they changed almost everything they put in it back to resemble warzone 1 more. And with warzone 3 you see them going back even a little more, which brings back more players. I think that if they would go back to movement as it was in warzone 1, but make the game playeable for new people as well ( a better sbmm or weapons being in the same damage class). You could then make a new storyline and update along the way. Updates that only fix bugs are annoyying, getting to expkore something new is way more fun. I just recently started to play warzone again ( after I stopped during the king kong and godzilla event on caldera). And the exploring part is very fun. The leveling of the guns not so much, as each 'new weapon' is stronger than other guns ( either due to fire rate or damage). I would be willing to bet, that I you brought back warzone 1, and were able to fix some of the bugs ( which they weren't able to, but jsut if) add a continuing storyline in which after 1 month the map would be destroyed by the nuke. I bet people wouldn't even touch warzone 3 ( even though warzone 3 has some amazing features, which I would suggest to add to warzone 1). And they would make a fortune, I bet if they added a subscription to it (5 dollar/euro monthly) people would pay it, just to have fun.

I think the reason everyone wants to go back is because it was the best map. Gameplay wise the games got a lot better, but as they’ve made that progress the maps have gotten worse. Verdansk coming back won’t save WZ or bring it back to the peak player count… but it’ll sure as hell make those that still play today happy.

I've been an average 1KD player since Verdansk. I can't get above 0.75KD in Urzikstan. I feel like my friends and I are constantly just being thrown to the wolves as cannon fodder in this new Warzone. It's extremely frustrating. My squad averaged 150 wins on each map. We have 5 so far. Sick of being one of the sweeties 20 kills per game. SBMM IS TRASH. Whenever LTM modes come out with no SBMM, we can actually win. Get rid of SBMM. Guaranteed it's bleeding players off.

I always found it funny me and my squad were diehard in Verdansk, with two of us chasing that PUBG high. We left Caldera; just couldn't dig the map, and it felt so fast that a lot of it felt like luck. We tried Al Mazrah, and it was okay. But as soon as we tried DMZ, we only played that for the entirety of the run. So many missions were done. But we're down for Urzikstan now. It's solid. But in my opinion it still feels faster and more random/lucky than the slower paced Verdansk was. It doesn't have a lot of that build. I miss that. But it feels like games are only going to get faster, and I'm only going to get older.

With each release the game feels less and less like the COD games we grew up playing and loving. They try to even the playing field far too much to pander to those players that can't get wins as they fear if they don't people will leave! Which isn't always right, back in verdansk days me and the boys could go weeks without getting a dub but we still logged on every night as the games was fast paced felt like cod on a large map and was FUN!! Since they removed rebirth its been sad when before could have been 6,7,8.. of us all online at same time nowadays lucky to have 2 or 3! The game is stale, the gun progression system you'd need to PHD to understand which beggars my mind as was that change really needed, what was wrong with the tried and tested rank the gun unlock the attachments we have had for years upon years! I get what people say about it being so popular on WZ1 because of the pandemic but its not just that, the game as I said felt like COD on a large map, it was fast paced, fun to play, refreshing with all the new things load outs etc etc. How during the dev's meetings they don't sit and think why not take all the things that worked and was right and put them into the same title, it almost like they do the complete opposite! They'd be better to break WZ give it to 1 studio, DMZ to 1 studio etc etc this cycle of studios having to rush out games each year is not and has not been working for some time! Every single game on launch is unplayable and takes weeks/months for them to fix with patches!

You left out one of the main reasons people stopped playing when Caldera was introduced. Many console players literally couldn’t play. The map wouldn’t load properly for some and a bunch of other flaws with optimization drove MANY players away.

My favorite is when people just say put warzone back to the way it was just reset. But people forget about the litany of ping and fps issues, stim glitches every other update people going invisible and invincible, then the hackers the hackers people forget at one point activision was quite literally working with hack companies and leaking code so hack were cheap and unreal and prevalent eith no anti cheat. At one point around 15 players out of the 150 of every game was some sort of hacker from walls to aimbot to soft aim and the Cronus. Nostalgia is amazing its like high school when people say i wish i could go back to those years then you remember how shitty it was in many other ways. For me the issue with warzone is the constant trying to link it to their yearly release. They need to stop, i dont want to pay 70 dollars for a resmastered game. They made the game pay to win way to much form the roze skin to the gaia or wannabe groot skin. If you dont have it your fucked. Sadly one developer they could learn from is epic and fortnite. The game continues to stay popular fixed things quickly, doesnt launch with numerous issues making the game unplayable. The reality is fortnite has keep as many players playing as they did the pandemic. So covid helped warzone but i think they sold the game when they didnt focus on game play and focused more on adding money making bundles. The newest verison clearly focuses on the battle pass more than ever in warzone. I dont know but warzone will never hit the numbers it once did. Rereleasing verdansk with little to any changes and a better feeling game in that map would grab insane numbers for a bit anyway.

I think Warzone 3 is in a great place! I'm still not loving the gunplay, there was something special about the AR's in Warzone 1. The M13, Kilo, Amax, were awesome to shoot, we don't have anything like that now

They still fail to understand that people asking for a new map doesn't mean they want the old one gone forever... And each new BR map they make is worse than the previous... Verdansk and Caldera had nice Points of Interest... Al Mazrah wasn't perfect but had a few nice spots like the Observaroty... Uzurkistan is just full of Points of no Interest... Sending out Fortune's Keep before Alcatraz/Rebirth Island is just mocking the community... They closed the original Warzone with a lame excuse, saying the game was too cluttered with content that was creating bugs (when the game was already buggy before Cold War)... then drop WZ2 full of bugs anyway... the gave people all the 12 Ghost skins with the pre-order of MW II for WZ and MW... but didn't add those skins to MW II and the ones they did, they made people pay for them again... like the Classic Ghost... Now they brought back the RAM-7... they could let people use their old skins for it but nah... They could have managed Warzone better and also not put aside the multiplayer... we buy a game just for it to be half of what it used to be... I'll never understand why they got rid of CTF and made Kill Confirmed a thing... and sticking people to 3 modes on MP Ranked and having us only play the maps they play on CDL... just this season they even had the brilliant idea of removing the snipers... Which leads me to how useless the snipers are in Warzone... All the high caliber snipers should be bit slower to ADS but 1 headshot kill and 2 to the chest if fully plated and only 1 to the chest if already broken... at any distance... we can't do 900m sniper kills no more like in Verdansk and Caldera... we can barely do a 500 meters kill...

Basically WZ1 was pretty ideal just give map rotations with extra content like DMZ, Nukes etc! 🤷🏻‍♂️ I left warzone after season 2 of wz2 just bored 😂

I think SBMM needs a tweak. That or everyone is just that good at the game now. We have been playing since WZ1 and games are just grinds to get a few kills and a top 20 finish sometimes. Maybe we are too casual now.

I don't care what anyone says, the biggest issues we've had in call of duty relate to three things. Broken Meta's, bad matchmaking and the worst of all, Hackers. Deal with those and Call of Duty is saved.

i played one week of warzone 2 it just wasnt the same, i thought they just wanted to upgrade the engine making the game better but no they changed everything about the game, it just felt slow and boring, and with all the new weapons that where to over powered behind paywalls, like the fire breath shotgun all you could do was get instakilled by them so i quit.

I finally quit the game. DMZ got me hooked last year. MP never appealed to me at all. Zombies in MW3 sucks (imo). I was being strung along by warzone the last few months. But cheaters and SBMM have finally pushed me hard enough to delete the game

The game just doesn’t look and feel like Warzone 1 that’s the main issue. The art direction is different, the graphics aren’t as good, the guns, sounds, animations, UI all of it just isn’t as good now as it was. It’s not the timing. wz1 was genuinely a great game which they ruined abit more with every update
