Georgia Football QB Carson Beck entered the 2024 season with sky-high expectations, but in the aftermath of the poorest performance of his Georgia career against Kentucky, many in the Georgia fanbase have openly questioned whether Georgia's prized QB has regressed in 2024.
With that in mind, in this film session video, I go to the tape to bring you an in-depth examination of Beck's performance against Kentucky in particular and the rest of the 2024 season at large and, in the process, attempt to answer whether Beck really has regressed in his second-year at the helm of the Georgia offense. #georgia #georgiabulldogs #georgiafootball #godawgs #ugafootball #ncaafootball #secfootball #collegefootball
In the aftermath of Georgia Football's way-too-close-for-comfort victory over Kentucky and Carson

How many more years do Carson and Arian need to play together to “build trust”?….tired of hearing that sorry ass excuse. I dont see Cam Ward having any issues “building trust” with his receivers in Miami. This isnt a marriage, its football…Just throw the ball to the open receiver, stpp playing these silly head games.

I think everyone needs to remember these people are humans too. They are going to make mistakes they are going to have bad games it happens. It even happened to Tom Brady from time to time. It’s been three games of the season there is tons of football left and going to be plenty of opportunities for him to improve and show that he is capable of. Plus let’s not kid ourselves with Bobo and Kirby at the helm we will most likely never have a Heisman winner qb. Carson can still do a lot to potentially be the number one qb on draft day but we don’t need him worrying about that. He just needs to focus on each game one at a time for us to have a chance at winning another championship

Kentucky was a bad look to be sure. No way around that. However, Bobo did just produce a top-5 offense in every major category with a first year starting QB and having to deal with an avalanche of injuries to the best players on offense including 2 first rounders who missed essentially half the season and another in Ladd McConkey who also missed half the season. I appreciate the passion, man. That's what this sport is about, but let's also not fall victim to confirmation bias.

Here is the thing. Carson played this way in the beginning of games last season, too. He played awful in the first half of games early last season, he didn’t turn it on until latter in the season. It’s almost like he needs to warm up or something.
@gloryuga
@gloryuga 5 күн бұрын
True. He wasn't elite the first few weeks. The Auburn game was the catalyst for him. But he also was not doing some of the things we have seen from him this year at any point last year. The misfires on easy pitch and catch throws just didn't happen. He wasn't putting the ball into harm's way the way he has at times early this season. I still believe in the guy, though, and do think there is something to what you are saying about him needing to warm up. But he better be ready to go on Saturday.

There's way too much on his mind. Bobo has to make it easier for him. You're so right about how difficult of a delicate balance it is to figure out how to NOT be careless or reckless with the ball while also not being too scared to take some chances and give your guys a chance to make plays. The more he has to think about the more both of these things will be issues. That's why Bobo has to help him build confidence and rhythm. He's gotta simplify progressions and create more space. The o-line has to help him a lot too (including in the running game). It's not all on him, but we'll only go as far as he goes. Right now it seems like he's feeling the pressure of this schedule. We can't leave him out to dry. The rest of the team (especially the coaches) need to be making his job easier and carrying the lion's share of the burden. Let him game manage and then take shots in the flow of the game. Great breakdown. Thanks for being honest about it (and also showing some good film too).
@gloryuga
@gloryuga 6 күн бұрын
BINGO! We have to create more space on offense. This 12 personnel stuff has to stop (to the degree that we use it) if the TE aren't going to give us more than they have. All that does is get more bodies in the box, muddy up the picture for the OL, and put more pressure in Carson's face. Spread teams out with 11 personnel, get Dom Lovett on the field, and go to work.

Yeah unfortunately he has been very average. I think all the heisman hype and talk maybe got in his head a little but our offense SUCKS. Our running game SUCKS. Aside from the 2nd half against Clemson the offense has been utterly PATHETIC. That can probably be attributed mostly to Clemson's great D getting worn out. Kentucky at night is always a hard place to play. The 2022 team went in there and won but it wasn't easy. STILL, the offense looks really bad. The O-line, which was supposed to be so good, got pushed around by Kentucky and really our running game against the little school wasn't good. Good news is losing this year won't kill the season and at this rate i see no way they don't lose 2 games. MINIMUM unless something changes drastically. NOW, all that being said we will see this weekend at Alabama what this team is made of and whether the beginning of the season is just sluggish or a trend.
@gloryuga
@gloryuga 5 күн бұрын
The offense certainly has not played to the 2023 standard to this point, but we have also played two very good defenses. That has had something to do with it. We need to spread things out. Using 12 personnel as much as we are right now without Bowers is only serving to get more bodies in the box and reduce the space that our backs have to work with. It's also muddying the picture for the OL and making it more difficult for Beck to identify where pressure is coming from. I really don't think we got pushed around by KY. They were just outnumbering us in the box and we allowed that to happen and played right into their hands. That has to change if we want to have any chance at beating Alabama.

Great vid!! Munsoning pretty hard for this weekend. One thing that bugged me was you pointing out that throw to Delp and how it seemed predetermined, you think someone might be predetermining for him? Someone else is watching the D line up and has Carson’s ear until the play clock hits 15 sec… not to be the anti Bobo guy. Go Dawgs
@gloryuga
@gloryuga 6 күн бұрын
Thanks, man! Certainly possible on someone in his ear, but that throw to Delp should have been abandoned post-snap. He's got to see that on his own and he did routinely last year. For whatever reason, he's not processing quite at the same level right now. Or at least not as consistently.

This is the first time in Kirby’s tenure that I’m questioning his ability to win big games. I don’t care what anyone says, he made the biggest mistake hiring old buddy to run this offense. How do you have these loaded teams, and can’t recruit a top QB to run it? Stetson was obviously an outlier, and will go down as the greatest UGA player ever. I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired of Bobo. We are seriously going through the same thing we did with Richt.
@gloryuga
@gloryuga 6 күн бұрын
I appreciate your passion and respect your opinion, but I do think it is a little misguided. After winning back-to-back national championships, I am not sure it is altogether fair to question Kirby's ability to win "big games." It is pretty well established that he can win the big game. Does he win all of them? No, but that is an impossible standard. Even Saban didn't win all of the big games. As for Bobo, it is fair to criticize him for certain decisions as it is for any OC, but the guy did just produce a top-5 offense in every major category with a first year starting QB and having to deal with an avalanche of injuries to the best players on offense including 2 first rounders who missed essentially half the season and another in Ladd McConkey who also missed half the season. Kentucky was a horrible look, but I also think it's important to keep the big picture in mind and not be prisoners of the moment. But, I appreciate the thoughts and hope to see a different team on Saturday. GO DAWGS.

The biggest thing I see is he has no safety blanket receiver this year like he had with Lad and Brock. No guy that consistently creates separation. The closest he has is Lovett who’s a slot receiver. Which is down the middle a lot. Tight End play has been a major let down. O Line is flat out missing assignments on pass protection. And the outside blocking on quick out passes. Which are easy passes that build confidence especially when you get positive yards out of them.
@gloryuga
@gloryuga 6 күн бұрын
We certainly do not have anyone that can produce to the level of Brock and to a lesser degree Ladd, but guys were open against Kentucky. He just didn't cut it loose. I do think there is something to the notion that he just does not trust his skill players this year the way that he trusted Brock and Ladd and is more hesitant to put the ball into tight windows b/c he doesn't necessarily have the faith in them to make the play.

The Kentucky game was a very poor performance. No doubt. Worst of his Georgia career IMO, but he still had a lot of big stages left to play on. The KY game certainly damaged his candidacy, but Caleb Williams also had a game against Oregon St. early int he 2022 season where he went 16/36 and a game against Wazzou where he went 15/29 and still won the Heisman. Nowhere near the favorite now, but also not completely out of it, IMO.
