I think the key to the game is how well Georgia runs the ball. If Georgia is able to grind 4.5-5 YPC consistently on an Alabama run defense that has been mortal thus far, it will set up Carson Beck to take advantage of some mismatches against Bama’s inexperienced secondary and allow Georgia to efficiently move up and down the field with consistency. I think Georgia has the best defense in the country right now when they get their main defensive line guys back. The lack of DL depth on the field against Kentucky showed but I think it was a one game thing due to the unique injury situation we had in that game that won’t be apparent again, similar to Alabama’s OL vs USF. Georgia has been great at preventing big plays and Alabama hits big plays better than anybody. Talk about an unstoppable force vs immovable object. I’ve picked Georgia to win every game since our last regular season loss in 2020 against Florida. I think Georgia is more than capable of winning this game, they’re favored for a reason and for the first time in these matchups have the better head coach. Alabama’s looked on great both sides of the ball for 9/12 quarters, and Georgia’s started insanely slow offensively twice against P4 teams, Georgia seems to miss Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey desperately, Georgia’s OL has underperformed and now will be without their best player, and Carson Beck has struggled in road environments and now he’ll be playing in the toughest road environment of his career. For the first time in nearly 4 years, my head is telling me to pick against my Dawgs. I think it’s fairly low scoring to start, both offenses pick it up in the 2nd half, but ultimately Bama, through Jalen Milroe’s arm and legs, creates a few more explosives than Georgia does. So (sadly), give me Bama 30-27 Saturday Night. Now excuse me while I go find somewhere to throw up.
@j.wilson1000

I agree, we need to run the ball well. BUT.... we can not do this typical run up the gut, run up the gut, get 3rd and 7 and throw the ball for 6 yards like we did against KY. Bobo gets stuck in that pattern regularly. Go Dawgs!

No faith in the coach who hasn't lost a regular season game since covid? I'm all for fair perspective but this is a despicable showing on fanfare. I myself think there's a decent chance we lose the game but to make a declaration that Bama wins? For shame sir for shame. I can't imagine your proclamations if uga was a normal team who hasn't been on a historical run.

As a big Bama fan and I am picking them to win by 4, 27-23! But I am fearful of winning during the season and getting put out of the playoffs by Ga. In the playoffs. Both teams have to stay healthy to keep up with Texas and OSU! Much respect for Georgia and it could go either way but, Bama will be able to run the ball, but I’m not sure we will be able to sustain long drives vs Ga.

As a Georgia fan, this is likely going to be a frustrating game. Nick Saban had Kirby's number, not Alabama. However, this is the worst Georgia team in four-five years. Brock is gone, UGA doesn't have any great receivers, and Beck is not a true running threat. From a AL defensive perspective, it is a very simple strategy, load the box to stop the run and rush the passer and make the receivers beat your corners (if they can.) From AL offensive perspective, it is equally simple. UGA traditionally has struggled with good running QB (see AL last year, SC Last year, Ohio State the year before.) They are an aggressive upfield defense that has a tendency to get behind the QB and then get gashed for big scramble yards by a QB. AL just has to show that the QB is willing to run with a few plays early. Once that is established, UGA will have to put a spy on him and/or not rush him as intensely. That will either free up a spot in the backfield (with a spy) or give him more time to hit downfield receivers.

I am a huge Bama fan and usually can get a good feel for the game. There is a chance they blow Georgia out of the water, but that seems unrealistic. I don't have a good feeling about it.

As a die-hard Dawgs fan, I watched Kentucky manhandle Georgia on BOTH sides of the ball - that told me everything I needed to know about this game - as much as it hurts me to say it, I think this game is going to be over by the end of the 3rd quarter - my prediction : Alabama 41 Georgia 20

I truly do believe the intangibles will propel Georgia over Alabama in this one. Yes, Kalen DeBoer won both rivalry games against Oregon but I’m just telling you right now, he doesn’t know what SEC rivalries are (and, yes, this is a rivalry regardless of if they play every year or not. They’re the only 2 teams in the conference that can compete on the same field with one another.) If you think for one second that Georgia isn’t out for blood and doesn’t want to curb stomp Bama for what happened last year… you got another thing coming.

This game absolutely does matter. But to think that the script wouldn't be re-written in 2.5 months should they meet up again in the post-season is unwise. It won't be this season (it's the first of the 12 team playoff) but give it a few years. The expanded playoff will eventually condition college football fans to disregard these games - in general - down the line. They will eventually have as much juice as a divisional game in the NFL, but probably nothing more.

Did you watch film the last game? Did you see how bad the Oline played? How off Carson Beck was? How the perimeter blocking by TE was terrible? He dialed up 5 or 6 home runs and they were all missed or stopped due to a player not getting the job done. The play caller is put in a box when that stuff happens.

@@ChaosKLC What I saw was, 1st down= run up the gut. 2nd down= run up the gut. 3rd down= run routes that end 1 yard shy of a first down and throw it. Yes, there were some missed opportunities but the play calling never allowed our offense to form any sort of rhythm. Here's to hoping that got corrected in the off week.

Bama has a weak secondary. They are young and this swarm defense is too complex. There has just not been anyone to expose it yet. Georgia’s secondary is going to be something Bama hasn’t seen. Bama may have some running luck but that is about it. Expect Bama’s sack issues to continue.

Bama's dbs are a weakness but I don't think swarm is any more complicated than what Saban was running Bama just doesn't have the depth on defensive line to stonewall teams for the entire game. Georgia's secondary may the best they've seen but vice versa Georgia hasn't played a team with the playmaking ability like Bama's and the last 2 times they did play a team with legit playmakers they gave up 41 both times 2021 SEC Championship and the Playoffs vs Ohio State. The last question is Georgia's defense better than it was last year because I believe Bama's offense is better this time especially on the offensive line.

This is the worst Georgia team Bama will have faced since Kirby took over at Georgia, no doubt. Not to say they aren’t good or even great, but Bama beat a better Georgia team last year in their backyard and the offense wasn’t clicking then like it is now mainly with the O-line which is huge when you talk about having less penalties, clean snaps, being able to run the ball more effectively, and pass protect much better than last year. I got Bama at home, I don’t see this Georgia team beating them outright.

Josh picking Bama wasn't a surprise, as I don't think he's ever picked Georgia in this matchup, and I get it. Kirby, by and large, hasn't been able to flip the script against Bama so far in his tenure. I do, however, think Josh is over hyping DeBoer's wins over Lanning because: A) As mentioned, Lanning isn't Kirby B) Oregon doesn't have the players Georgia has on either side of the ball C) Milroe is a competent enough QB, but Michael Penix Jr. he ain't That said, as an optimist as well as a Georgia fan, I think my Dawgs get it done Saturday night. It'll be a four-quarter fight, as these games almost always are, but I think Georgia finds that spark they've been missing and plays up to their potential, securing the W. If I were to slap points on it, I'd say Dawgs by 10, but that comes with the caveat that I think they'll only be up 3 until about midway through the fourth quarter.

I see ga exposing that secondary and using that to open up the running game. If ga limits the amount of yards per carry And minimizes the deep ball which I think that they will do we will win. Bama hasnt played a top 100 defence yet. We are ranked at #4 without any of our best guys up front. We also blew out the #3 defence in the nation.

So I guess every time someone has beat one of Saban’s former assistant/positional coaches means they would also have beat Saban. If that’s what you want to hang your hat on, that’s miggghhhhttty shaky. A scholared individual might even argue you’re comparing apples to oranges and that your final reasoning for picking Alabama is guilty of violating the non sequitur fallacy. Dawgs by 13.
