The eco route might be good for people trying to save money on gas
@kompost13 жыл бұрын
In my country, most routes are eco friendly. If You're driving a gas car on many majore roads, the state will tax the sh*te out of your car. For example, Oslo has 50% car commuters on EVs since September.
@itschrishuerta3 жыл бұрын
My 5 month old son loses it when the car is still so I’m always taking the route that results in the car stopping less. So if that’s the eco friendly route, I’m going to take it. It’s wild how your priorities change from getting somewhere faster to getting somewhere safely without your baby losing his mind. Right now when we go to his grandparents house there’s two options. 30 mins through downtown with high chances of standstill traffic or a 40 minute drive with no traffic. I’m taking the 40 minute drive every time.
@lf45182 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Andrew definitely got it wrong when he said that people would choose to save 5 minutes rather than use the eco-friendly route. It's clear that his priority is saving time when choosing which route to take, but as you have illustrated here, that's not how everyone is going to make that decision.

The talking to Elvis idea: what if the AI searches for voice samples of him and then it makes a smooth deep fake voice of Elvis that sounds exactly as he would have if you were speaking with him in real life (or via video chat)? And then it's able to do that with every other person (not just celebrities and public figures) with voice and video the AI can find on the internet to sample their real voice And then, since deep fake video can be made by sampling someone's face from pictures and video, the AI can even create a hyper realistic animation with natural skin tones, facial features, mannerisms, hair movements and natural body movements and then the AI creates a realistic background that the deep fake character can interact with, like pulling out old records to play you music that sounds like it's playing on a real life vinyl record player in 3D space, or like a politician pulling out actual documents with realistic sounds of paper rustling

I'm really happy they will FINALLY add the eco feature to maps. I have been asking for this for years now. I even wrote to google twice about it. I drive an electric car with a relatively limited range (chevrolet volt 2019) and since it is SO MUCH cheaper to drive electric than gaz, I would almost every time choose the eco route even if it cost me ten minutes or more.
@NishantSoniTV3 жыл бұрын

@thewatchidiot3 жыл бұрын
So actually I would end up choosing the eco friendly route only bc that would mean there won't be heavy traffic and I'll be able to drive more freely. I'm one of the people who love to drive on open/more fun roads so it's happened many times that a trip to target shows as 15 minutes but I end up taking the fun back roads for 35 minutes+ 😂😂
@ReaLzEdits3 жыл бұрын
Same here, even if it's longer I still prefer it over sitting in traffic for some reason.
@akshatranjan33523 жыл бұрын
Actually if Google Maps is showing you the fastest route most of the times it IS the fastest. I think it already calculates how much traffic there currently is on the road and how much there is going to be by looking at the number of people that are about to go through the same roads and are starting the trip the same time as you or even after you. Because sometimes it will tell you a new faster way if it thinks that traffic is about to pile up on the road you're already going on.
@terryarmbruster79863 жыл бұрын
Lol its not eco friendly at all. Routes usually take longer. Lol so actually pumping more exhaust into system. Lol idling cars don't pump out more pollution. Each stroke of cylinder determines how much exhaust released. Lol that is one revolution let's say equals one exhaust unit. Clearly more RPMs more exhaust. May not be a linear relationship but still increases as rpm increase. Lol only benefit is not caught in a smog zone but end up putting more pollution into overall atmosphere bwahaha Eco people are going to destroy the world bwahaha
@thewatchidiot3 жыл бұрын
Lol that does make sense for sure! But on the other hand it could be argued that driving more miles out of a tank is simply a better use of the gas thats going to be used anyway compared to sitting around barely moving. So in a way the eco-friendliness comes from needing to buy and use less gas overall as opposed to curbing actual emissions. It's a funny situation bc it comes down to deciding whether or not you save the air, by lower emissions, or if you slow down the use fossil fuels by using less of it over the same number of miles, which is technically also lowering emissions. I didn't think this would be such a weird paradoxical situation bc both ends make sense 😂😂 Either way the longer fun roads are more enjoyable and less stressful but I guess I'm doing my part by driving an ND Miata that sips on fuel😂

There isn't a number of minutes that'll convince people to take the eco route... people need a service built into an app that shares the route you're taking with your friends and gives you an eco score for choosing the sustainable route when available. This. I've been insanely curious about the true state of their AI (and others including Musk) We are not let in on where they are. Right at the beginning of Covid (Jan/Feb 2020) Google started reading my mind. No joke. Several times I would be thinking, Not speaking, and I would think of something unique that I wanted to look into soon. Often as I wound down to sleep, so I would tell myself I'd check it tomorrow. I swear to God at least 4 or 5 times I would wake up to a notice on my phone about the *exact* thing I wanted to look into. It truly freaked me out. I spoke to several other people including my mom who had all had similar experiences. I finally figured it was simply a mater of Google knowing me so well it could anticipate things I would want to research. This didn't continue, I'm positive they dialed back the AI to avoid freaking people out. It really was a very odd experience. I kind of wish they would unleash that again though.

I have another theory to add. I think Google gives alternative routes to try and relieve traffic, not necessarily to get you someplace faster.
