I’d say the biggest reason for his decline is the change in mentality of players. A lot of players these days are a lot softer mentally. The way he tends to motivate players is through negative reinforcement in an attempt to toughen them up and trigger their competitive nature, it works great with mentally tough players. the new generation is much more used to instant gratification and being celebrities which builds a weak mentality at times. It shows when you see the players who love to play for him and the players who lose favor in his teams.

Rather than that, I think players now love a relationship of Brotherhood with their coaches. I think it's why people who play with Ancelotti and Guardiola say that they're both very good but they prefer Carlo. More than that, Mourinho was the smarter guy in the world tactically. Now there are people like Conte, Guardiola, Klopp... Who are as good as him tactically.

If we compare the midfield of chelsea, inter and real to the midfield of manchester and tottenham, is easy to understand that one of the reasons to the insucess is the lack of creativity of is last two teams, but there are more reasons, for exemple: many players are less committed or more spoiled and the coaches also know Mourinho better And... hey from a Benfica fan hahaha
@FootballMeta3 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely all valid points. The Chelsea midfield of Lampard Essien and Makalele was one of my favourites to watch, and certainly a lot more creative than United and Spurs' under Mourinho. Also I decided not to include mourinho's time at Benfica cause I feel his true tactics began at porto hahah

Also, defence defence and defence, with Phil Jones, Smalling, Eric Dier, Sanchez were very bad in comparision to the type of defenders he had in Porto, Inter, Chelsea and Madrid.

I think people undersestimate what José did with Man U and Real. His Real was great, really ! He not won so much trophy because he was against the greatest team ever. But he made 3 times in a row the semi final of the C1, when the club failed to pass the round of 16 the 6 past years He made an average of... 91 points in 3 LaLiga season !! And clearly, Ancelotti use his tactical success to build his own Madrid - but improve the atmosphere, who was the real problem. And at Man U... He's the only manager since Sir Alex to score more than 80 points in a PL season. He's number of points/game is the second highest in Man U history. He did so much better than Van Gaal and Moyes. Tottenham and Roma are really the first times he failed to improve the team.

Can you talk about the 433 and what do you think is the best attacking formation out there ?
@FootballMeta3 жыл бұрын
Sure, I'll be doing a video on the 4-3-3 soon! Personally I think the 4-2-3-1 is one of the best right now. If played with the right players (like Bayern Munich) it's so well balanced that it makes it very difficult to break down

He’s still great, just managed poor teams, he got over 80 points with a rubbish United team and turned Son and Kane into the best partnership in world football and is now doing a great job with Roma without spending big money at all

Not to be rude or something. But Mourinhos spell at Spurs wasnt to bad he got them to a cup final. I admire Mourinho alot but all Im going to say is that Spurs didnt want to play his football thats why he didnt succeed. Check his new spell at Roma

I think both man United and Spurs had pretty weak teams compared to what he coached at Chelsea, inter, and real Madrid. But a great coach is able to get the most out of everyone, and in his recent spells, Mourinho seemed to have lost this ability. It was something he was great at earlier on in his career

Def agree that his training methods were innovative and that probably gave him the edge. Also he is very strong in knockout stages. From a strategic perspective he has been extremely dissapointing. His insistence on long balls by his goalkeeper, consequently rarely building from the back and opting instead for 1vs1 duels at the front just won't beat guardiola and co.

In the Spurs documentary, Mou originally want to get rid of Ndombele. But the other coach told him that he has a great influence for the team. So he drops the idea. I wonder what if spurs buy a better attacking midfielder, will they win something.

Without his success of the past, his style is so boring. I think if this continues his credentials within the game will continue to decrease. As a United fan having to watch back to back seasons of Van Gaal and then Mourinho style of play I was very much falling out of love of watching my own team. So I think with Mourinho it’s either success or bust!

Yeah I can see that, his time at Man united was definitely not an exciting one. I can't tell if it was the players not wanting to play for him or if he wasn't able to get the most out of them. I think pogba is a good example given how he's been a lot more important for united with Ole
