As a Roma fan I can say that the work Mou has done is immense within the club. There is a lot wrong with the club and the team due to past ownership and poor management and a whole host of other problems from agents to the mayor of Rome. If he is given time and the support in the transfer market, which I think he will. Roma will be a good side. But we have to remember last season, with only a couple of different players They only just finished 7th. To draw to Napoli, nearly beat juve and show other promising signs is more than we should have expected anyway. Give it time, give him a bit more money and he’ll make this team his own I’m sure if it. I feel there is far too much criticism of Jose and of roma, when if any other club were under these circumstances they’d be cut a lot more slack. I do think there are criticisms that are valid for mou, I also think he’s not the same that he used to be. But I think his ‘downfall’ is being overplayed. And on the point of Roma’s transfers - mentioned toward the end of the video. These transfers were made out of necessity. Viña at LB a was to replace injured spina. Rui Patricio was a necessary transfer given the performance of Pau Lopez last year, and was also relatively cheap. Tammy Abraham was replacing dzeko and is often quoted at being 40 million or whatever. But this is paid yearly, and Chelsea have a buyback clause for 80 million I think. So that’s essentially a 2 year loan costing 10 million. Then either keep him for 30 million. Or let him go and make 40 million. Yes I agree Eldor wasn’t a good signing but that’s only one, the rest were either good value or direct necessary replacements.

I do like the fact that you didn't fall into the typical mourinho bashing agenda and you actually was coherent and fair at the end. Personally I think that Jose is definitely a genius of the game. A lone wolf who from the start wanted to set himself apart. He famously said in an interview " I don't belong to the football tribe. I love football but I'm not part of its tribe" That has been true from day one both in his succes and failures. He also is one of the most fascinating sports figures to analyze. His mentality his career his amazing highs and some huge lows. I personally think that everything changed during the summer of 2015. People say he lost it. No. You don't go from best manager in the greatest league on earth to relegation within 5 months because the game has past you by I think it was psychological. Fabregas publicly said the players abused of the thrust jose gave after that title and mourinho felt betrayed and became isolated and full of rage which led to the first game back of the new season and the Eva incident. From that moment he never looked happy again. It should also be pointed out that mourinho was very close to his father. He would call him after every game for years and he died at around that time too. While he might never go back to his prime that lasted an amazing 12 years or so. He can definitely still do great things until the end of his career and I'm banking on a succes at Roma by a trophy and a very good 2nd season Anyway great video

To be honest, many people feel that Mourinho failed at Real Madrid. Although his time at Real Madrid is not a successful one and as a fan, I would never want him back, he actually did something very important in Real Madrid. He was against the best Barcelona Team of the Time which stopped him from getting a load of successes. At that time, beating Barcelona was a myth to many teams. But he instilled the idea inside the players that we can beat Barca and we have the capabilities. I still remember that in 2013, we defeated Barcelona with our B team. He had created a lot of issues in the squad but his squad set up actually helped Ancelotti to gain the La decima and we can never deny that. He was the first one to really break Barcelona's dominance. Statistically and trophy wise, there is very little success. But if you go deep, he really did something very important in Real Madrid and as a fan, I respect that. People uses to think Guardiola as successful, but looking closely, he won his champions league a decade ago and with Prime Barcelona team. Then he managed teams like Bayern, Manchester City and spend a huge amount of money to build the squad. With all these resources, he only went to the final last year and thats the best achievement. I am not comparing Mourinho and Guadriola. I am just straightening up some facts.
@chrisfrank26642 жыл бұрын
You said that all very well. As a Spurs fan, and one who never liked Jose (still can’t believe he was coach at Spurs, whether for 18 days or the 18 or so months). But you can’t deny his ability to win that one game that seems not possible. And use his defensive philosophy to dictate not only his team but the other team too, and have the game played the way he wants it (typically the slow & less exciting defensive tactics). This is why no matter how much we all wanted him gone, sacking right before the league cup Final v City & Pep, you just never know what could happen in any game, no matter how great one team is & the other how bad they are. Plus the Jose V Pep rivalry adding one more chapter, from when it started as you mentioned when at Madrid and beating the Dominate Barcelona teams. And your right about Pep, which is why he will always have that criticism from all fans( except for Barca, Bayern, City). Whenever he is done at City, if he were to go to mid table team , or lower, in any league, and see how great his tactics work without buying the best players from all over the world. Pep is great, no doubt, but like coaches in any sport who only coach when they have best players, or ability to buy best players (this is true in NBA too), he will always have the one question mark about him, despite him going into Hall of Fame, or whatever honors he receives after his career, as one of greatest coaches!

not exactly...... I feel, that the fact that Barca was dominating spain(and also europe), is not necessarily because they had unbeatable squad....... Pity there isn't much attention paid to his tumultuous time at Real Madrid, which is arguably the biggest puzzle piece in explaining Jose's decline. Think Jose's time in England and Italy were mere prologues to his time in Real Madrid (the pinnacle of his managerial career) and his war with the club that rejected him for some young upstart named Pep. His magic was still evident at Madrid, and his 2010/2011 team was amongst his best and successfully drove Pep out of Barca (though Barca itself remained the premier football club of its era). However, to unseat prime Barca, he relied on scorched earth tactics that burnt both Barca and his own team's psyche out, and eventually led to him warring against Madrid icons like Iker Cassillas - thereafter, his hold over his players and his club slipped. Next, he returned to a Chelsea that saw him as their Shankly, and after 2 great seasons his belligerence - bred during his time in Madrid - caused him to begin warring against all those who wronged him, even Eva Caniero. No manager can maintain control over their dressing room for an extended period of time with a modus operandi predicated on managerial total war against all who wronged him. Once the wool has been pulled over everyone's eyes and players / supporters / media no longer worshipped every word he said, there was no turning back.

Jose Mourinho’s failure at Man U and Tottenham showed that the impact of football managers nowadays is largely dependent of those who run the club. In case of Klopp, it is the club’s full support that wins Liverpool trophies. Even when the ranking of the team did not look good, when he wanted one of the most expensive CB in history, Klopp and the club are on the same boat. In case of Pep, the support and authority that the club grant him have been truly phenomenal. The amount of cash poured into those transfers has been insane. For Mourinho though, he seems to have lost that capacity of gaining the support. In Chelsea, the club was unaware of the aging defense line and bought in some trash defenders in his third season there. That was a mistake, but not an irreversible one. Nevertheless, he clicked the self destruction button. In Manchester United, no one in the club cares about playing good quality football, and there is no professionalism in the club. All the transfers were over priced and were presented to fans like a show. The mediocre players think themselves as CR7 or Messi. Although his team only got the second place in his second season, gaining 81points in the league has been a record for Man U in almost 10 years by now. So I actually think his achievements at Man U are pretty respectable, cause Man U after Sir Ferguson is a black hole, in which no one can possibly pull out great success. In Hotspurs, he just simply overestimated Levy’s ambition. Spurs is not ready to be a true big team yet. He was not heading toward the same goal that Levy wanted(titles vs top4 spot)

Mourinho is one of the greatest managers of all-time, he's known as a serial winner. The expectations for him will always be incredibly high. Yes, he is past his prime as a manager. But no, he isn't done at the highest level. He can still do really well and win trophies, depending on the team and the time he is given. Roma shouldn't be expected to win the league right now, which they aren't. That doesn't mean he isn't doing good. He's doing very well.

Despite what Mourinho did at Spurs, he was still a whisker away from winning us a league cup, even if the football (and results) were atrocious at times. Considering his newfound success at Roma, I'd say that the closest parallel to Mourinho at the moment would be George Graham, who was also coincidently prevented from taking in charge of Spurs against Wenger's Arsenal in the 2001 FA Cup semi-final, Levy giving that job to Hoddle (although Hoddle did reach a League Cup final the season after, unfortunately that was one year too late...).

@mancunioner2 жыл бұрын
@@NunesSan so the best RB in the world according to a lot of people is Trent. He’s actually a CM, so his defensive abilities are mediocre at best. But everyone sees what he can do with the ball and thinks that’s what a RB needs to be. So basically you’re ending up with defensive players who can’t defend and goalkeepers who can’t do the job well enough. This is a manager who relied upon players who knew how to defend, hence the clean sheet and goals conceded record. So when the players that can perform that for you no longer exist then you look worse as a manager. Imagine Pep Guardiola is told he has to keep up the same level of football but he can only choose players that play in League 1. He wouldn’t be able to do it because those players wouldn’t have the technical quality needed to perform his tactics, and the issue now is players don’t have the tactical abilities required by Mourinho to fit into his tactical framework which is why he’s struggling more
@NunesSan2 жыл бұрын
@@mancunioner You are making too many assumptions about Mourinho. There's not a type of player or a size fit's all in a manager's tactics, that would make any team impossible to manage, because Mourinho looks for strong mentally and defensive players, doesn't mean these players don't exist or can't be worked with to achieve these qualities. I can't find any reason why Mourinho wouldn't have Trent Arnold in is team. A style of playing doesn't become obsolete or deprecated just because, a style of playing keeps improving and it's adjusted to the opponent side, that's this basic understanding that made Morinho win with a defensive Inter side against an all powerful and all attacking Pep Guardiola's Barcelona, and then lead him to another Champions League title.

Roma AS is a clearly untalented mid table squad.t Their best player is Tammy Abraham and Pallegrini, its a squad ready for a rebuilt and has been in need of one for a long time now. This video really understates his time in Madrid imo, they were unlucky not to achieve more and a league title over what many at the time already thought was the greatest team ever is an amazing achievement. Real Madrid was the peak of Mourinho's career in terms of on pitch ability and also of the infamous siege mentality. El Clasico grew so vitriolic during his stay in Spain that the captains of both sides felt it was detrimental to the brilliant Spanish national team who were at their peak during that time as well, and the likes of Casillas attempting to make amends between the two camps is also reportedly the beginning of his fallout with Mourinho. Inter's players cried when Mourinho left the club, they loved him, but despite how good Madrid were he left their dressing room a war zone and nearly forced out their legendary captain. He has never been the same since his sacking from Madrid, he took that bitterness with him to Chelsea once things started going downhill, lost most of his charm in the media and as you said has grown toxic towards his own players. The game has passed him by tactically and in terms of man-management which probably feeds into this behavior. Chelsea's home defeat against Simeone's Atlético in the 2014 CL semis really marks the end of his time as an elite manager in my eyes, he was out-done by a team in the same style and mentality that he used to be an expert in ten years before. He never again competed at the top level in Europe, even his league winning Chelsea team crashed out in the CL RO16 and the furthest he ever got with United was the RO16 against Sevilla.

Hi Alfie, I do like watching your videos as they are quite different from the most of the other football related videos here on Youtub! I have a suggestion of making a video about a small football club called DALKurd FF. In 2004 a group of young Kurdish migrant (diaspora) in small town of Borlänge in Sweden established this club. In their first year the average age of their player were only 17! Dalkurd won every division they participated in from their very first season in 2005 to 2009. Owing to this uncommon success they got a lot of media attention, both in Sweden and abroad, and finally in 2018 they promoted to the Allsvenskan Sweden’s top devotion football, and they did all that without any outside financial backing! I believe this is an interesting story

Lo Speciale got a big win away in Bergamo against Atalanta. What's hurt him is the slow recovery of Zaniolo, credit to Lo Speciale for allowing him to play into form.

Carlo Ancelotti just shown the world how old managers are not finished just need the squad behind them!!

But Ancelotti is a pragmatic attacking manager. He does well with the youngsters (21/22 Real Madrid). Mourinho on the other hand buys old, washed players and plays his typical fossil fuel tactics. It worked in 2010 or 2012 but not in 2023

I honestly can’t believe the downfall sometimes… Champions league with Porto, Treble with Inter, least goals conceded in an EPL season with Chelsea (04/05), most goals scored in a La Liga season with Real (11/12). But now…

To me it seemed like Mourinho doesn´t enjoy managing, he´s far more happy as a pundit. One thing about Guardiola: has he ever managed a club without basically endless amount of money? I recall Barcelona, Bayern and ManCity, none of which were poor at any time he was present there. If so, I´d really like to see how he´d do in, say, Hull City or Crewe Alexandra, or maybe in the Finnish Premier League?

As a portuguese is painfull to see that downfall of mourinho,one thing he never had or gained is humility,that lack of humility when you're winning is seen as a strength of character because you have the wins to back it up.Now mourinho has a flaw that he gained from the second experience at Chelsea,he blames everyone but himself including his players,that was a thing he never did,he was the first to protect his own,and for that players went above and beyond for Mourinho,he made normal players play like world stars at times.Now you have a Mourinho that loses and blames,a Mourinho that tries the mind jobs but looks like an old man bitching to the pigeons,Mourinho lack of humility is his downfall because he cant gather the favours of his own.
