People need to understand that back then the performance differences between the cars was huge compared to today’s cars. So I would say this could be the top 2 drives of all time

Also bigger, wider cars, harder to control and pass. Not just the cars, all drivers are professional athletes now and even the so called worst ones are not really that bad. Conditions back then would be way more harsh though. Safety standards is much higher now. F1 is not racing in horrifying conditions anymore, which is a good thing.

How is this not the greatest wet race ever?? Starting P17 and beating your title rival who started pole by 30 seconds.. 17 fastest laps, not in the best car, facing adversity from FIA/media bias, potential massive points loss, high level field, most overtakes and no mistakes on a day when the other drivers could hardly overtake and all made mistakes. I mean, what else could you throw at him? Hamilton 2008?? He started P4 in the best car! Come on… this channel takes the piss.

According to F1-Stats the cars are closer than ever, it´s not seldom to see first 15 drivers within a second in qualifying. This makes what Max has shown in Brazil that more special, yes I do think it was one of the all time best drives. OK I have to admit that I haven´t seen Fangio, Clark or Stewart racing, but I do follow F1 since the mid seventies.

Thanks for your views. Regarding the question on McLaren and if they are ready, compared to Red Bull who has the experience in more recent years....let's not forget that during the Mercedes dominant period, Red Bull always otpimized: if there was a change to win a race, they won it (sure probably not a 100%), the first change they had to win again a driver championship, they delivered and won it. So it is less about learning from when the opportunity occurs, it is about learning and optimizing every race, every opportunity so that when there is an opportunity to win a championship...you optimize! I would be a bit more critical regarding learning versus optimizing...next seasons you might not have the opportunity, you have to do your homework before there is a change. (ps: I am no doubt biased with my orange glasses)

I feel you forgot to talk about one quality that max has in abundance and lando is lacking: consistency. When max got in front the last 20 laps in Brazil you knew there will be zero mistakes. Whole of 2023?? Zero mistakes, smashing records. Consistency like a Swiss clock. On the grid currently Alonso and Hamilton have shown that they could do that aswell given the right tools. I feel oscar has it more than lando too. Lando got 3 wins so far, first with a lucky safetycar (or was that talent 😅), zandvoort (solid) and Singapore where he also slipped up twice due to laps in concentration. 10 poles of which he bottled 9! Consistency is key for a wdc and lando needs to get buckets more or he won’t ever become one.

You "don't think Lando has the edge on Max yet"? Haha what an insight. Lando bottled this season. That's all. It's not McLarens fault for not making Oscar a clear number 2 driver earlier. It's not up to Oscar to make Lando a champion. Especially when he's fumbling every start. Stop these pathetic excuses.

Everyone loves an underdog story, but the reality is Lando Norris's chances of winning weren't as good as believed. Everyone brings up, but if Max Verstappen doesn't finish, or something heppens, while never entertaining the thought that the exact same thing would happen to Lando Norris. In Brazil it happened, and Lando had the kind of race that everyone said could happen to Max. The knife cuts both ways.

McLaren talks the talk, but does not walk the walk. They (andrea, zak and lando) shouldn’t have had such a big mouth because now they look like fools and yes…. Bottled it. It’s their demeanor that makes people say ‘bottled’.

Yes don't worry even if Mclaren bottles it again you guys will be there to defend them. I mean this argument that oh this is their first time in a while to fight for the title is BS. This is supposed to be pinnacle of motorsport, how many times have we had a driver not win despite having the fastest car for majority of the season? Coming to F1 and saying oh lol sorry first season lets try later lol what the hell, this is not kids playing cricket.

Windsor made a very comprehensive video about how many driverpoints McLaren as a team cost Lando this year, it amounts to about 34. The gap between Lando and Max now could have been 28 points, still a big ask but doable. So I guess "bottled'' is the right term, I would say. Still much respect for Ian!
@diangara3298
@diangara3298 Күн бұрын
Funny how he didn't also add up all the points Lando lost by making all those mistakes. It's always easy to make up a fantasy reality that doesn't exist and blame that for all your problems instead of looking in the mirror. Lando has been blowing wins and potential wins from his 1st opportunity in Russia. It's time to deal with that.
@mohitsasidharan
@mohitsasidharan Күн бұрын
Come on mate, everyone knows that if you add the total points of the bottled race starts(from pole position)that Lando has had this season, this will be far more than 34 points. DId WIndsor mention anything about that in his videos? I would say its 20% Mclarens fault.

Jamie Chadwick deserved a seat if we have drivers like Stroll. Can you guys please explain the dynamics of Strolls contract and if his father only owns 30% of the team why he still has enough power to keep his son (who is an actual nepo baby - no insult) in that seat... when we can all see he does not have the skill or speed to deserve that seat. I hope Drugovichi gets the seat but i think he wont get into f1

Max had a great race and how great it was or how great Max is, I find it difficult why we should compare. We talk about different times, different cars and partly different tracks. We have several great champions and yes they were probably in the better car, but races like Brazil show who the better drivers were and you mentioned the names, Max, Steward but also ofcourse Schumacher, Hamilton, Prost and probably many more. All good drivers in their time and let's respect them all for who they are and not necessarily compare them against the other great ones. McClaren made some mistakes but I don't think it would have mattered for the championship. Lando is a good driver but he's not an asshole enough yet. And you have to be one to become a champion. That said, next year will be very interesting, as McClaren will probably have a whole season with a better car. But don't discount Ferrari either. This season's championship has not yet been decided and I am already looking forward to next year. A Max fan.

Nahh other way around. The old 1968 drive or the Senna Donnington etc are over romanticized by most of which 75% can’t even remember it, or worse, haven’t even seen it. I feel you can’t ever talk about ‘the best race’, ‘the best driver’, etc. The aim is that you just want to be in the conversation. If that happens you have done enough.

@@bjrnchrstn I saw the donnington race as a kid and cant remember it... and the schumi spain 96 race and cant remember it. so u right on that point. I agree with the guys and you on the whole GOAT thing. I feel that the era you started watching will always have bias to you and you then forgt the actual facts and remember it with rose coloured glasses and romantisizing. In my opinion the drivers from the 50s, 60s and 70s had to be the most skilled eras as a crash would kill them, and they didnt have radios and driver aids.
