And I don't really think? The children looks like bobbleheads? The proportions aren't wrong, you can use a typical artist body proportion tutorial reference to measure it yourself. But I see where people are coming from, Ikemoto draws them skinny with chubby faces and personally I find it kinda cute. But I could see how that would emulate a bobblehead lol.

Yes it definitely has. Stuff like character proportions, paneling and flow have seen improvements. With my background in art I know how hard it is to draw 40+ pages including character concept arts and storyboarding under a month. Although Kishimoto is the better artist, I've always preferred Ikemoto's style. His style is a lot more gritty and realistic. He pays more attention to details on character's faces as well as their hair. There's more face lines on characters like their upper lip, stress lines, more detailed eye lids and ears. He also likes to draw clumps and strands of hair as opposed to just spikes. His character designs have always been stellar from fused Momoshiki's redesign to Kawaki, Kara and Eida etc. There's still a lot of room for improvement though. Ikemoto definitely needs to include more shading into his characters especially on 1 panel or 2 panel pages that has a closeup of a character's face. To clarify, I do not want him to use digital screentones like the fanarts that you showed but rather use hatching, cross hatching or even contour lines to shade. It'll give his art depth while at the same time sticking to Kishimoto's iconic style. He should also play around with perspectives like a fisheye effect or foreshortening make his drawings and fight scenes more dynamic. Overall, I think Ikemoto is a great artist with massive potential for improvement. He mainly struggles with time which results in inconsistencies with his art quality. I hope that he continues to grow and expand his abilities in TBV.

Artistic style can also be said to be a matter of personal preference. But God, will anyone really like his details? These details are useless and troublesome for a battle shonemanga, and they are dilettante. He put a lot of effort into the character's facial features, but ignored the cheekbone structure. The eye sockets and upper lip were just simply shaped, no shadow. And the most terrible thing is that these decorative lines are drawn with the same lines as the outer contours of the characters, causing it to look extremely flat. The character looks like a child's face with middle-aged features. As for the hair, it was also a half-assed drawing. He wanted it to be more complex and softer than Kishimoto, but he only drew a shape, and the hair was not drawn at all. The movement of the hair and the light and shadow were not considered at all.

The thing I did not like much about the early action scenes in Boruto is that it felt like I read Dragon Ball (the original) and not Boruto itself. Over time that luckily changed with the introduction of Amado and Time Skip Boruto that fight more like characters from Naruto or Ninjas. It is not that the action wasn't good, but it just takes you as a Naruto fan out of the experience sometimes.

3:25 1. I'd like to disagree and say a lot of new artist (and even I found this surprising as I am young myself, still just in my 20's) could benefit from drawing traditionally, as I actually find out some literally go through their whole journey in digital. Debatable based on results, but I find horrifying thinking about the implications of over-dependence and inability to grow from mistakes as they start to fear making them in the first place. 2. Ikemoto is not lacking in drawing skill but in the critical eye skill. The brain tends to overlook certain wonkiness as you work on a piece for too long. That's why it's always advised that you either have a second opinion or take a few hours, better yet a day, from the work and then revisit again with fresh eyes before you decide if it's finished or you hate it. I've seen this man draw live, and one similarity that a lot of great artists of their caliber always shows (and this is such a simple thing that a lot of artists never practice) is the ability to draw a line or shape in _one_ movement. Nothing wrong with chicken scratches if it looks good and works, but you'll find less strain on your wrist and more decisive strokes that doesn't leave you frustrated if you just practice this. Other examples are Kim Jung Gi (RIP), Reiq, Hirokoshi, and most animators tbh.

They are all clichés. But I disagree with two points. One is that the character's clothing design and character lines are not sharp. These two points are very fatal and are by no means a matter of preference. His character design is too complicated, which is very fatal when painting battle scenes. When the character moves, the lines on the character will also move, which will be very troublesome to draw. In addition, the black color on his character is too heavy, which makes it difficult to draw. Draw more lines. Ikemoto was obviously too lazy to deal with these lines, so he gave KK and Boruto two cloaks so that he could avoid drawing their bodies as much as possible. When you look carefully at the plot related to Boruto and KK's movements, he basically focuses his perspective on their backs and tops, and he likes to use Boruto's backflip posture so that the cloak can block his body again . This resulted in extremely limited viewing angles and physical depictions of the battle, and the cloak was still black. He never had to arrange lines to create motion blur, and there was no sense of fluttering, was also worsened the sense of speed in the picture. Moreover, sleeves and trousers that are too wide are not suitable for reflecting human body movements. Why do characters in martial arts movies often wear tights or go topless? It is to better reflect the body movements and muscle lines to increase the visual impact. For fighting scenes, sharp lines are a must. Sharp lines can make the scene more visually powerful. If you watch enough manga, you will notice that in battle-related panels, especially hit shots, the character's turning points are usually drawn thicker and harder, and the points of impact are also drawn with longer and thicker tips. many. to create a sense of explosion. This is the basis. Ikemoto definitely knows this, he just can't draw such lines. If you look carefully, you will find that his lines have a trembling feel and the line width is consistent. At first glance, it seems that I am not confident in my pen control ability. I cannot draw smooth lines in one stroke and can only use splicing between lines. His pictures are very simple, which makes them even more dazzling.

He was a glorified background artist for Naruto and only got the job because Kishi wasn’t up to give up another 10+ years. He was never and currently doesn’t have the skill set to be in the position of illustrating a manga. Also the fight scenes being “easy to follow” is such a lame excuse, all of his fight scenes lack engagement, look at the 7th hokage gaiden where Shin jumps sasuke from behind and look at that panel layouts and compare it to the best from Boruto. A viewer needs to be engaged while reading. His collisions also lack impact and he thinks adding speed lines will fix that which it doesn’t

I don't mind Ikimoto's design. I just knew immediately that they had design choices they lean towards that are just different than the standard for the series and the dissonance was due to my expectations. higher detail in eyes, hair structure, full blushing lips, and an eye for high fashion and more modern haircuts and clothing materials. It made for a rough transition, but now that people got used to it, and Ikimoto san has progressed a good middle ground, it looks like it hit a stable stride. The progression of time and setting in the story also really helps. A coifed wavy mullet on Kisame's relative, is way more excuseable in Neo Kiri than in the older series, where it would stand out heavily after all.
