Redesigning Sarada's New Look: Ikemoto's Failure in Boruto

If anyone is wondering, yes I saw the new Sarada design and yes it is actually pretty great. Why Ikemoto couldn’t have given 13-yr old Sarada shorts instead of older Sarada, idk, but I love what we have now. The leg warmers and chunky heels are 👌🏽 the weapon holster without the bandages is like 🙄 but it’ll do. Over all, give it up for Ikemoto and the team for not fking it up as bad as it could have been 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 #boruto #sarada #borutotimeskip

My favorite designs from the new Timeskip are Boruto,Mitsuki,Kawaki,Sarada Shikadai almost in that order. Tbh Mitsukis would probably be my favorite,feels the most “badass ninja” to me. Inojin just looks like a K-pop boy 💀Also just found your channel and definitely gonna subscribe.

Sometimes i get annoyed when people complain about how artists portray female characters. Specially when i myself like to draw my own characters with more revealing clothes. I don't shy away from it. However there are situations like Ikemoto with Sarada and Horikoshi Kouhei with Momo, that are just indefensible... 😢

Small note, Obito needed goggles when he was a kid because his vision wasn't the best (goggles instead of glasses because they don't fall off). Obito either grew out of it as he got older or doesn't need them when he activates his Sharingan and just has that active 24/7 (not unusual for powerful Uchiha). That said, being in a club with mr. immortal Madara 2.0 isn't anything to be shamed of. I like the idea of her wearing glasses and taking them off when her Sharingan is active, pretty cool IMO.

She may have gone Karin's way with putting blades in the glasses too. I mean, she is a kunoichi, when I saw Karin had this in her glasses I was like "Actually, make sense. This is an item she always has on herself, so having it serving as a tool in emergency is a good idea, for a ninja" And thinking that the Konoha police/guards should also have thought of inpecting it, but then again, thinking back, we didn't see a lot of ninja who needs glasses 24/7. Like, we have Kabuto and Obito, like you said, that are for bad eyesights, since Kabuto is showed to be short-sighted, and I think there was a scene of Obito putting drops in his eyes, before he activated the sharingans back when he was still in Konoha, so he may also have eye problem, like you said, but other than them and Karin... Like, we see the Aburame wearing glasses, but they tends to be sunglasses, so, debatable if they need them to see, or if their eyes may just be, I dunno, more sensitive to light than your average person. There is also the girl that have a crush on Shikamaru, but I don't remember if she is a ninja, and for the others, it was temporary ones, because they were reading a lot of documents, so... maybe the weaponisation/use of glasses as ninja tools isn't well spread ?

Compared to Noelle, Lucy, Urahime, and Bulma, her outfit is fine and it’s tamed. She is a rebellious teenager standing up for her falsely accused friend/potential love interest. In real-life teenage girls her age wear stuff like that all the time, even in parties.

I just don't like her outfit. Before the time skip or after the time skip. I wouldn't even consider it inappropriate if people didn't point it out and mentioned it. I just find it bad, not good aesthetically.

Stripper is right, that was my first thought when I saw the time skip outfit for Sarada. The other female characters didn't fare much better either. So many "ninja" women are in ridiculous high heels and short-shorts, and for some reason Sarada, the smartest and a very practical ninja girl, can't manage to find a jacket that fits and will stay on. She's in a tube top too, have you ever tried to exercise with a strapless shirt on? NO, because it's inherently stupid! They were drawn up like little wanna-be runway models. The female ninja might not have been *written* great in Naruto, but they were drawn with the same respect as the males, and I loved that. They could be feminine but didn't sacrifice efficiency and function being feminine. Some weren't feminine at all either! Tsunade could wear the little kitten heels (whatever you call her shoes...?) because she was just so OP after all her experience, she could pull it off. But even then it wasn't 3 inch platforms!

7:32 I think in your drawing Sarada has too wide hips and an adult figure. Still, she is 12-13 years old and has a more childish and thin body. Maybe this is what she would have looked like at 16. Although maybe even as an adult she would have a thinner body composition since her parents are slender

1. Really triggers me when people refer to Sarada's outfit a strippers', just because they don't like it. Just say you don't like it. Because strippers in my area definitely don't look like that. And if _this_ made you gasp, come find out what real strippers wear, and you just might have an aneurysm. 2. There was an explanation for Sarada's eyesight. The first reason was merely for design purposes to make her stand out and not be a Sasuke clone in face, they say. But they fleshed it out on the anime (and possibly the spinoff manga from Kishimoto), where they explained that she had a terrible sickness as a child due to her sharingan activating way too early because of Sasuke's absence/leaving. Therefore, affecting her eyesight. Might be a pull in the ass, but hey it's a canon explanation and what you're looking for. Where have you been about this, tho? It's been out for years. Either you just weren't looking hard enough, or you didn't even try. 3. I personally love the anime version of Ikemoto's design, since they made it more pg - even more so if they had given her shorts from the start. But I love the scarf, tube top, and bag sm. I don't think it's out of character for her to have a fashion sense that includes scarves and cute bags with tassels (especially if it's the trend). But we could fight head canon all we want and none would let up, so I digress. The reason I probably like the first design in the anime, is because it's completely _just her._ I personally don't like the next gen looking too much like their parents. Sure, they can have a homage of some sort, like her gloves (but even that she made her own with having them asymmetrical) and signature red color. But I don't want their whole look to just be based off of their parents entirely. It doesn't make them feel real; comes across as "hey! This is so-and-so's child! Can you tell by the fusion of their clothes?". That's why I also really like Inojin, Chocho, Boruto, and maybe even Shikadai. Inojin is just completely his own character with his overalls and intentional sarcasm and jibes. Chocho even more so with her kindness and overt confidence in her looks and abilities unlike her father. And Boruto has flaws to counter his good personality and talent. I love how well-rounded they are (although more so in the anime). And so Sarada being her kind and sensible self with confidence to wear stylish clothes, not to simp for someone or be emo, really charms me. 4. "Something about Naruto was that the women were not sexualized" Is the boldest faced lie I've ever heard 😭. Weren't both female kage's sex appeal always pointed out? One of them literally had it as a power. And I guess we don't include the movie where they had Hinata's tits pushed out under the glistening sun, since you only mentioned the series. But what about that blonde messenger, Samui Kumogakure? The whole frame focuses on her breasts every time she's on. And let's not even talk about Karin, her whole thing is about being a simp and wanting to pimp herself for Sazgay. Not to mention the amount of women Jiraya-the-pervert peeked from the first series. Let's also ignore any onsen scenes entirely since it had men in there too, so, equality right? (not that it matters that they portray the boys being goofy while the girls part focuses on their bodies, more specifically how Sakura is flat and Hinata's well endowned). And you might say "oh, but that's mostly the older women" and you'd be right, but does that make it ok no matter their age? Disregarding sexualization entirely, Naruto's biggest problem involving women isn't sexualization, it's sexism. Which is more offending to me imo. None of them, not even Sakura, a lead, ever matched with Naruto and Sasuke. But it _is_ shounen, so I shouldn't be surprised really. And that's another topic entirely. 5. Ikemoto's line art is weak?? Where? If anything's weak about him as an artist, it would be his workflow and panel composition. But line art? 6. Lastly, while I may agree to the general consensus that Sarada shouldn't be sexualized. I don't agree to hating every part of her design. That, and people slandering her character. As if she's a real person and chose what she wears. And then proceed to use that as a reason to hate the series and Ikemoto's designs, as I believe that to be his strongest point. No matter how questionable one character's design may be. And I think content like this just fuels this fire and inadvertently make you an ally to those people, despite your intentions. It's just very damaging.

i dont think its the artist that wants to sexualize sarada its just the young fanbase... sexualization exist in anime because its popular. i believe the only reason kishimoto hasnt had many good female characters is because he slaps woman on all his less important roles. simply because that way they might be able to keep attention. however he also then goes and slaps men on all the good roles to have a good balance. i dont think its important to have a good balance in your manga and a 80% female cast would have done just fine. if that is what keeps viewers attention

There is a problem though, of some fanservice scenes in some of the shonen industry being... well, a lot of sexualization of the female body, not just shonen, to be fair, most men oriented medium will end up with this problem, whether it is questionnable camera placement, outfits that are inapropriate or had no reason to be like this (example, the bikini armor, for the most drastic case, where there is literally no practicality to the outfit) or like with Sarada, the very questionnable choice of the design of her outfit when she was literally about 13 yo... Heels that high are... impracticale to be kind, and with a job like shinobi, I would say they would be Sarada's quickest way into a coffin. Yes, very experienced kunoichi could pull it off, but genins ? It should be obligated that they wear the standard wears foot wears sandals the ninja are usually known for. The only "praticality" storywise you could have for those are : 1. A Kunoichi who send chakra in the heel could likely turn this into a f*ing blade and become a threat (although we never saw Tsunade or adult Sakura, with her good chakra control trying to do it), 2. Do something cool like maybe block a blade with the heel, possibly, with the right move even breaking said trapped blade (although the position may be hard) But other than those... 3. having an actual blade hidden in the heel just in case ? (like, you go in a enemy trap, you know it is a trap, they took all your weapon... but in reality, there are kunais or something hidden inside the heels, and most people would of course not think someone would do this)
