I am seeing him in a different light now to be honest. If he can't be the star in whatever project he won't do it? There's a difference between being your own boss and having everything your way or no way.

I think Dwayne Johnson's actions and ego definitely affected the quality of both Black Adam and Shazam 2. It's not about just him preventing cameo appearances. If the reports are true... he did not want his Black Adam character or even the Justice Society to be involved with the Shazam franchise at all. This almost certainly directly affected and restricted the writing and creative process related to both Shazam movies. The writers were essentially handcuffed and did not even have access to Shazam's main nemesis??? That was just ridiculous. It's not just about the cameos.

I think his overall career will be fine no matter what. However I do think that established franchises will be less likely to add him to the ensemble now that 2 of the most famous franchises of all time have spoken out publicly against him. If I was running a big franchise, I would be worried about adding him and having to put up with that kind of behavior. Although he will most likely always have movie roles because of his larger than life charisma and action movie experience.

I think it would've been way better if Black Adam had been the villain of the shazam sequel. Black Adam could've defeated shazam making him an unstoppable force, working him up to God tier level villain eventually leading to a Black Adam vs Superman showdown with Henry Cavill

Dwayne Johnson has long been notorious for his ginormous ego, so this whole fiasco with Black Adam and Shazam comes as no surprise to me, and probably not to most other people too. I don't think this would necessarily "hurt" his image, his image has always been narcissistic and egotistical.

@@TheMa5cmpb no but you can tell alot about someone based on their actions, the Rock always wants to play the "hero" and be the center of attention, his refusal to be in the Shazam movie or let the JL characters appear in Shazam 2 is more proof of his ego. He was so obsessed with wanting a Black Adam vs Superman movie even though BA is a Shazam villain, not Superman's. And turning BA from a villain in the comics to a antihero in the movie just because he wanted to play the "hero" all prove just how narcissistic and egotistical he is.

🚨 John, the Rock did a lot to damage Shazam. 1. Black Adam should had been in Shazam before a solo movie. 2. The Rock was Producer on Black Adam; but, he should had allow the JSA to be in Shazam to support DC overall. The Rock failed to care about DC; he care more about himself.

I feel like my disconnect is that despite the “15 years of working” on Black Adam, it felt like a lazy movie. The script was poorly written and basic. The acting wasn’t anything special and poor in some areas. The visuals were fine in some places and bad in others. And worst of all, DJ sanitized a villain and anti-hero and turned him into a largely benevolent hero, like he does with every character he plays. So I didn’t see this as a “big swing”. It was like a thousand other DJ movies, it just had super powers. And I think the schtick is starting to wear people out

Knowing how relentlessly mean and unforgiving the Internet is I think this could damage his image quite a bit, obviously not for the people outside of the movie fan bubble but it might for the people in it, I mean just look at Patty Jenkins, after she made the first Wonder Woman everyone loved her and said she was great, but after WW84 everyone instantly started treating her like a criminal, now they’re like “Don’t let that woman near a single movie ever again because we don’t want her terrible directing to ruin it” Maybe it would be different if it was just any other movie but superhero and Star Wars fandom is horrifically toxic and whenever something in it isn’t good or they make a change that the fandom doesn’t like these people always wanna tie the people involved to a pole and burn them alive, and so just based on that I would sadly say there is a pretty big chance that this will hurt Dwayne Johnson ‘s image for these people, it won’t for me but I think it could for them

Some of The Rock's smear campaign is weird, bcuz when it was reported that WB execs had an issue with him going over their heads, ppl took the Rocks' side. When he publicly dissed Hamada about Cavill, ppl took The Rock's side. Not 1 person complained about him strong arming WB when they thought that it would lead to the return of Henry Cavill. Even though he openly said a long time ago that he preferred that Black Adam & Shazam not be tied together in his origin story, ppl just now want to put the blame on him. It's like suddenly The Rock turned heel, bcuz the fans got tired of him & it's the trend now to hate him lol

I didn’t like Black Adam (at all) BECAUSE I had big issues with it. GOTG was an unknown franchise but excelled because the writing was amazing, the story was actually interesting, and the right actors were picked. The Rock is clearly a talented and creative man, but it would be nice to see him play a supporting role where it’s not just The Rock being The Rock. Shazam 2 with Black Adam as the villain, just an evil, bipolar opposite of Shazam, would have been the best fan service. But he played it safe, as usual, and we got another very forgettable performance. I would appreciate it if for once he could flex and his acting and try something different.

I think the problem was that he wasn’t being a true team player in terms of the Shazam franchise, and the rest of the DCEU. Like how do you distance yourself from Shazam knowing he’s an integral part of the Shazam story. He also downplayed other DC characters of the JSA… even the Shazam actor shared a post on the story of his ego. So he clearly rubbed some actors and studio execs the wrong way. He’s been known to hijack other things like the fast and furious franchise and make his own spin-offs, because he wants to lead his own franchise. So he does somewhat have a bit of a huge ego on his shoulders. He needs to be an actor first and foremost and not tell the execs what they should do in terms of leading a franchise. He needs to be a team player and do what’s good for the story and the franchise as oppose to what’s good for his career.. that’s what happened with Tom Cruise in the Dark Universe

The box office luster is definitely starting to wear off. Both Black Adam and Jungle Cruise lost money. The Jungle Cruise sequel announcement makes no sense in that regard, but considering it was announced under Chapek and Chapek is gone, I don't see it happening now. And John talks about Dwayne Johnson being a guy who always takes big swings. That may be true financially, but certainly not from a creative point of view. Whatever level of entertainment value his movies have, there's no denying that pretty much everything he does feels safe, standard and generic, processed by a studio committee if you will. And while his films in the past have made easy money, they don't make as big money as one would think. With the exceptions of the Fast & Furious films (including Hobbs & Shaw), the Jumanji movies and Moana, no Dwayne Johnson movie has ever crossed half a billion dollars. There's a feeling that the budget of his movies has increased significantly yet the box office remains stagnant on average which means that his movies are becoming less financially sustainable. And while the public may remain oblivious to the supposed turmoil, it still matters that there could be turmoil because it involves high ranking studio individuals and those people could very well be less willing to put out Dwayne Johnson movies.

dude he was so humble back then, he did small role, independent films, play villain in comedy. Now if he in the movie and he's not the main guy, he not doing it. He won't do movie where he lose the fight. He might as well play Superman.

I just watch Shazam 2 and it is a good movie, DC is not broken. I think the problem is that they want every movie to be a Billion dollar movie.

Look I don’t think that Dwayne public image and career is going to fall after Black Adam. Like you said he took a huge gamble and he loss. That’s the thing about gambles if you win you win big however if you lose you lose big as well. And no I think his reputation will suffer unless he rock bottoms a comedian at the Oscars for making a gi Jane 2 joke. Will reputation is done after what Chris said. But as for the rock not really. It’s just a bump in the road. Nothing too bad.

The Rock's ego got in the way. The fact that he wanted his own Black Adam movie and didn't want to appear in The Shazam movie and wanted to fight Superman is concerning. It's like Heath ledger not wanting the Joker to be in a Batman movie and said that the Joker should fight Superman.

The issue is that it is obvious now that DJ has a big ego. It was always misguided of him to try and make a character like Black Adam the center of the DC universe. If he had not tried to make the DC universe about him, there would not have been a backlash. And at the very least, he should have had more quality control if he's talking about Black Adam so much.

The Rock will be just fine. He’s still every bit as squeaky clean and without scandal as he’s ever been. If this is the worst the studio hit pieces can dig up on him, then it means he’s a threat in the business and has done a lot more right than wrong.

While it hard to say that Dwayne's choices and inputs weren't a factor I don't get the need for the mud slinging to be solely at him. Let's be real here, this is yet another consequence of a decade's worth of creative missteps and studio mismanagement by WB. Because, and I do say this as someone who would run the place into the ground if I were put it charge of it, you'd have to be at the end of your rope to say yes to the idea, "Let's centre a cinematic universe of arguably the most legendary and pop culture defining comic heroes around a secondary character played by The Rock."
