The Rock is my favourite all time wrestler, so I mean no disrespect in this: it’s just how it sounds to me. DJ was taking a “Road to Wrestlemania” Icon-vs-Icon-feud pitch to Zaslav, the same as he would have done with Vince McMahon. It just wasn’t the right way to go about it in this environment. It’s not “Game of Thrones”. It’s WWE. I can’t blame him for going with the approach that worked for you in the entertainment biz before. Vince loved that pitch approach from up and coming talent. That’s DJ’s upbringing, and what worked for him in the past.

And instead of going up against his actual arch enemy, who the character was literally made to fight, and has the closest connection with, Dwayne Johnson was insistent of fighting Superman, because that’s the only character he thinks should be a match for him. I commented on one of these videos weeks ago about how it seemed Johnson was overstepping authority in order to build the narrative he wants, and this story seems to back that up, but y'all are falling over yourselves to defend him? I understand that people are mixed to upset with the Rock’s action and reaction. He ain’t all to blame. He’s PART to blame however. I hate to break it to you but the DCEU was literally dying by the time Justice League was done. The Rock may have wanted to make Black Adam regardless after it was pitched back in 2007. But honestly, he made a big mistake in my opinion. He should have let the DCEU die. Everybody knew the slate was trash and it crashed and burned with Justice League. The Rock tried to take over the DCEU in order to save it and resume it’s work. I feel like bring back Henry was literally conditional on WB’s part. If Black Adam succeeded in a round robin (critically, audience wise, and financially) WB would let The Rock lead the slate and maybe even restore the Snyderverse. Keep in mind, The Rock eventually does listen to the fans. However, it didn’t even succeed whatsoever. So WB got James Gunn and wiped 80% of the slate clean. Cancelling Black Adam 2, firing HC and the other main DCEU cast excluding Ezra and even calling fans “minorities”. It’s not ego and narcissism that played a motive on The Rock’s part in DCEU. It’s honestly just him playing the salvation and discovering the consequences of his failure. In conclusion, he did this to himself. He failed us. He really failed the DCEU. He failed his team, he failed Henry, he failed himself. :/ He fucked around…. And he found out. Even still, he had guts.

You guys keep saying “shoot your shot, what’s the worst that can happen” forgetting that this caused the ripple effect that’s happening now. Getting Cavill before Dwayne had a true plan everyone was ok with completely sabotaged whatever DC’s future would become later. People are excited when Gunn was announced to run this. Sounds like originally he wanted to soft or full reboot. But bringing Cavill back early kinda threw a wrench in it because of Gunn’s plan for a new supes. So it made Gunn look bad for not moving forward with Cavill. When in reality, it wasn’t his fault and Dwayne’s ego is really to blame. Now since people think Cavill being gone falls entirely on Gunn, a lot of people don’t care anymore. I believe had Cavill not been brought back early, people wouldn’t mind Gunn’s plan for a younger Superman. But old wb and Dwayne kinda damaged things bringing him back without a plan.
@darkangel152212 жыл бұрын
How could Gunn possibly not know that Cavill was coming back? The change in leadership takes months and even years to finalize. Gunn and Safran would've had to know the status of every moving coming down the "pipeline" as they make their transition. Its not like Henry was snuck in the backdoor dressed in an overcoat and filmed his cameo in the prop room of a soundstage. THEY KNEW and signed off on his return likely without a contract, but a lot of promises of good things to come (remember Henry's statement on IG that he was told by the studio to say that he would be continuing as Superman....). WB is trying to save face and throw The Rock under the bus because they don't want to lose the fandom.

@DEMediaDrive2 жыл бұрын
@Ramon Galo well we know that and he made the most out of many of those lousy scripts. Batista still didn't generate $300 million+ off a solo feature and neither has John Cena. The Rock went down twice in his Hollywood career. Can't deny he's a resilient guy. I don't understand the hate. Normal guys can be as big as the Rock if they put their mind to it. It's easy to criticize from the outside. Whats stopping anyone from being as big as or bigger than the Rock? Perseverance and resilience. He tried he failed and he'll be back. Guys like him and Tom Cruise never give up. I'm not giving up either until I land on that millionaires list in healthy condition.

Dwayne Johnson let his ego go out of control. The first film with Black Adam should have been a small budget and focused solely on Black Adam’s origin. End the film with him waking up in present day. Search a film of a visit made for $100 million and would’ve been heralded as a hit.

4:45 The highest paid most bankable star has a direct line to the top, he doesn't need proper protocols, were others egos hurt? Does he have to talk to the secretary? In my opinion he can talk to the top brass without consulting middle men. As far as decision making and trying to determine the path of the Dceu universe that's a weightier matter. A more collaborative effort might have been in order.

Dwayne's ego is so clear in all of this. There's no other reason to try and center Black Adam of all characters as the core of the DC universe, it just makes no sense. There's no reason to think this is a realistic strategy beside his own ego wanting to put himself in the center of everything
@BlastBoyX2 жыл бұрын
I'm with you, I understand WHY the Rock did this, but it didn't work out. The Cavill return announcement seems like it was a hail mary to get the maximum numbers for Black Adam, and it sort of screwed everyone because the movie didn't make any more money than any of the rest of the old DCEU films. Now the audience seems to be blaming Gunn for all this and I feel like that's just ridiculous.

I liked Black Adam. Had its problems but I still enjoyed the movie and it sucks that it didn’t do well. I don’t blame Dwayne one bit for trying to take control of the narrative of the DCEU. It was directionless and the other movies weren’t hitting home runs. He wanted to try something new and brought back Henry to play Superman. Might have been selfish but everyone wanted Henry back so it was a win win. Too bad we’ll never know what could have been.
