I agree with you. But these last few seasons rookie drivers, performed really good in their first race, for example Franco, Oliver and Liam (maybe not so much of a rookie). But the point us that these drivers where sat in a car and said go for it and all of the where really close to their teammate if not equal. Jack on the other hand in his first race didn't show much. Not good, nor bad and far away from Pier. I hope he does good, even though I want to see franco race
@zoobiyoyo
@zoobiyoyo 10 күн бұрын
@agustinforti7281 honestly , doohan only got to race a single race in an almost trash car used by Ocon. As the duck said , it was suspicious how ocon dropped so bad in performance after alpine announced he would be let go. Colapinto is just talented. No doubt. But the Williams team is just as supportive. Oliver , on the other hand , raced a Ferrari on his first race so the car was a top 3 beast. Liam... really ? He definitely fell behind Yuki though. And yet its him being promoted (yukisushi was done bad by RB) so I do think Doohan being treated like this is unfair. Sure , I love Colapinto man and I see why he chose Alpine but a damn 5 race contract for Doohan is just cruel. He only has around a month to prove himself. Plus Doohan is under threat by someone who has shown his racing calibre and has general favor by the F1 community compared to himself. all in all , its just how it goes.

Nyck get dropped was pretty fair in my opinion. Of all the teams that expressed interest in him, Nyck picked the one demanded the most. The whole point of racing bulls was to assess new talent for a Red Bull seat. Nyck was extremely old by F1 standard for a rookie at 27 while Yuki was only 23 doing his third year. Considering most drivers start to fall off in early or mid 30s. If Nyck wanted a future in Red Bull he would have to get up to speed quickly and beat Yuki. Otherwise, just promote Yuki who had a longer runway. Horner alluded to that when he said Nyck could have been a replacement for Perez who was performing poorly at the point. Red Bull legitimately needs a possible replacement for Perez. So when he didn't perform Red Bull saw it as a waste of a seat for them and dropped him. They had a lot of other drivers in the line up so kicking him wasn't an issue. Had he gone with the safer choice and picked Williams they likely would have gone a lot easier on him. He wouldn't have as much pressure to perform right off the bat and have many other driver challenging for his seat. He would probably be expected to just beat Nicholas' record and keep the car out of the wall. He may well still have a seat if he went to Williams.

The main idea is giving chances to rookies. But Ricciardo and Horner messed that up. That's why Nyck got shafted hard (worth it though), and Liam had to wait for so long. To the point the shareholders had to remind horner that why is an old driver in the sister team.

It's certainly an interesting question. There have been a lot of mid-season swaps in my time watching F1: 2009: Toro Rosso: Sébastien Bourdais was dropped for Jaime Alguersuari after 9 races Renault: Nelson Piquet Jr was dropped for Romain Grosjean after 10 races (led to Crashgate being brought to light) Ferrari: Felipe Massa replaced by Luca Badoer after Massa was injured, then Badoer was replaced by Giancarlo Fisichella after 2 races after poor performances. Force India: Vitantonio Liuzzi replaced the departing Fisichella. 2010: Sauber: Pedro de la Rosa was dropped for Nick Heidfeld after 14 races HRT: Bruno Senna didn't race at Silverstone; replaced by Sakon Yamamoto. Karun Chandhok was then dropped and replaced by Yamamoto. Christian Klien stood in for Yamamoto in Singapore as Yamamoto had food poisioning, then he also replaced Yamaoto for a couple of other races. 2011: Renault: Nick Heidfeld was dropped after 11 races and replaced by Bruno Senna. I have never understood this one. Sauber: Pedro de la Rosa stood in for an injured Sergio Pérez in Canada Lotus: Karun Chandhok replaced Jarno Trulli at the German GP HRT: Narain Karthikeyan was dropped for Daniel Ricciardo after 8 races, but he did replace Vitantonio Liuzzi at the Indian GP so he could race at home. 2012: Lotus: Jérôme d'Ambrosio stood in for a banned Romain Grosjean at the Italian GP. 2013: Lotus: Heikki Kovalainen replaced Kimi Räikkönen for the final two races after Räikkönen left the team early due to pay disputes and deciding to have back surgary. 2014: Caterham: André Lotterer replaced Kamui Kobayashi at the Belgian GP, and Will Stevens raced alongside Kobayashi in Abu Dhabi after Marcus Ericsson left due to the team being in administration. Marussia: Alexander Rossi was meant to race in Belgium as well, replacing Max Chilton, but the team reversed that decision. He was then meant to stand in for Jules Bianchi in Russia, but the team opted to only enter Chilton in the race out of respect for Bianchi. 2015: McLaren: Kevin Magnussen stands in for an injured Fernando Alonso at the opening round in Australia Manor Marussia: Roberto Merhi was effectively demoted to reserve driver after the Italian GP and was replaced by Alexander Rossi, only making two more starts on weekends where Rossi was racing in GP2. 2016: McLaren: Stoffel Vandoorne stands in for an injured Fernando Alonso in Bahrain Red Bull/Toro Rosso: Daniil Kvyat and Max Verstappen swap drives after 4 races Manor: Ryo Haryanto is dropped after 12 races and is replaced by Esteban Ocon. 2017: Sauber: Antonio Giovinazzi stands in for an injured Pascal Wehrlein in the first two races McLaren: Jenson Button stands in for Fernando Alonso in Monaco while Alonso races the Indy 500 Williams: Paul di Resta stands in for an ill Felipe Massa in Hungary Renault: Jolyon Palmer is dropped and replaced by Carlos Sainz for the final four races Toro Rosso: Daniil Kvyat is dropped after Singapore for Pierre Gasly, is called back for the US GP as Gasly's racing in Super Formula, meanwhile Brendon Hartley's brought in to replace Sainz. 2019: Red Bull/Toro Rosso: Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon swap drives after 12 races 2020: Racing Point: Nico Hülkenberg stands in for an ill Sergio Pérez at the two Silverstone races, then for Lance Stroll in Germany Mercedes: George Russell stands in for an ill Lewis Hamilton at the Sakhir GP Williams: Jack Aitken stands in while Russell is at Mercedes Haas: Pietro Fittipaldi replaces the injured Romain Gorsjean for the final two rounds. 2021: Sauber: Robert Kubica stands in for an ill Kimi Räikkönen for two races 2022: Aston Martin: Nico Hülkenberg stands in for an ill Sebastian Vettel for the first two rounds Williams: Nyck de Vries stands in for an ill Alexander Albon at Monza 2023: Alpha Tauri: Nyck de Vries is dropped after 10 races for Daniel Ricciardo, who then gets injured so Liam Lawson stands in for him for 5 races. 2024: Ferrari: Oliver Bearman stands in for an ill Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia Williams: Logan Sargeant is dropped after Zandvoort, right after the summer break, replaced by Franco Colapinto Haas: Oliver Bearman stands in for a banned Kevin Magnussen in Azerbaijan, then again in Brazil when Magnussen fell ill RB: Daniel Ricciardo is dropped after Singapore, replaced by Liam Lawson Alpine: Esteban Ocon is released from the team a race early, Jack Doohan gets an early debut. I feel like the fact that 2019 was the last year where every driver that started the season did the full season, and 2018 was the last year where no swaps occurred at all, tells us something! However, most of the swaps were for illness or injury or in the case of say, HRT, mostly through finances. The number of performance-related swaps is interesting though, I count at least 11, possibly 12, maybe more definite (in my opinion) ones in this list, plus a few more which are perhaps a little more vague in terms of whether they were performance-related or money related (but probably a bit of both), usually because they were among the backmarker teams. And there were a couple of exceptional cases, e.g. Palmer and Sainz, in that while yes, Palmer wasn't performing well, Sainz was also looking to get out of STR as quickly as he could! He was only 'on loan' to Renault remember! Also, the Ricciardo/Piastri swap was harsh but I think fair. The Honey Badger wasn't getting anywhere with the McLaren, it was like every time he'd have a good weekend or two, he'd be pretty much back to square one next time out! His final axing by RB was also really harsh.

As an argentine I am happy, but briatore is quite harsh with doohan, also would like to point out that antonelli, to make an example, has about 9000 kilometres of experience in an f1 while still not having debuted, meanwhile franco when he debuted had 300. Even in lower categories like f2, f3 and even f4, he didn't have enough money to gather experience on the vehicles, most of his skill came directly from simulators, only racing on the race weekends, so he has most likely much more to give. Is he better than doohan? I dont know, but I believe so. Still its though today in the market, hopefully with Cadillac incorporation more drivers have more solid chances at a seat.

Flavio is the same as he was in the 90s or 2000s dont expect alpine to be any less toxic that it ever was. Alpine could not provide ocon a farewell who won a race for then or what not. Blamed ocon for not performing when infact the car specs were different. Ocon's junior career has been as good as Leclerc, verstappen or Antonelli. Alpine is going to be a massive toxic workplace but no doubt with Flavio's expertise they are gonna start getting much better results.

Unpopular opinion and haven’t seen anyone really mentioned it. Dropping Perez at the end of 2024 feels cruel, arguably even more than McLaren dropping Ricciardo after 2022. While it is expected from a performance perspective (Perez IS performing worse than usual for almost the full season). Two aspects of Red Bull, mainly Horner, managing Perez seems like a screwjob. One being signing that contract extension to 2026. And while everyone including Checo himself knows he will get dropped anytime in 2024 if he continues to underperform, the other stinker is only officially dropping Perez AFTER the 2024 season. After one of the most volatile and available driver markets. Which left him absolutely zero chance to find a seat in 2025. At least Ricciardo knew midway through 2022 and has the time to find another team in 2023, even if it’s a reserve role that eventually amounted to mid-season swap-in. Still think Checo has some performance and especially commercial value for a mid to lower-table F1 team, or maybe Cadillac entering in 2026.

I will say that Ocon's situation probably has a lot more nuance compared to performance. This could very easily be just me randomly speculating, but I have a feeling that Alpine dropped him because the crew didn't like him or something like that. He had been with the team much too long and had put in more than enough results that they wouldn't sack him for just slightly worse performance or a simple crash. I think the crash is actually evidence for this, since he did NOT let the blame go to him, to me, an indication of what he might be like behind the scenes. But this is possibly me just wearing a tinfoil hat. (Let me be clear that he could still be a chill person, he just might be an asshole during work hours).

It´s not colapinto hype, it´s Doohan performing terribly at the Abu Dhabi gp, where he has 1400 hours in a f1 car. Meaning, how much more time does he need to perform well? Colapinto literally came from f3, had half a f2 season, and was thrown into the deep in f1. And he did pretty well considering.
@JulmustensV8
@JulmustensV8 11 күн бұрын
I mean there's merit too it. Colapinto is pretty fast, but we also dont really have a benchmark since we dont really know how good Albon actually is. And although you can argue that not all crashes were Colapintos fault he still did wayyy to much damage for Williams. And in slight defence of the lord and saviour Nyck. Nyck imo would've probably been decent in Williams since it's a car he could work okay with and the Redbull like environment just didnt work for him. And given how much praise Nyck got for his detailed feedback, i'm fairly confidently saying he would've had those 2 seasons in Williams instead of Sargreant to then be replaced by Sainz
@JulmustensV8
@JulmustensV8 11 күн бұрын
@@tuff9486 It's hard to know how Doohan did though. Sure Doohan doesnt seem like any special talent imo. But he got thrusted into the Alpine seat on the last race of the season out of nowhere where everyone around him has had the whole season in their car. Then we need to think about that Doohan was 100% playing it safe to an extent since there was no reason for him to take risks that race. And i also think it's important to point out that the 2nd Alpine car has not been the same spec as Gaslys car, we can even visibly see it. And Ocon was miles behind Gasly for a while in the 2024 season, they were 2 different cars
@tuff9486
@tuff9486 11 күн бұрын
@ Yes, the 2nd Car was really bad, and had mostly old spare parts. Which also contributed to Colapinto crashing several times in williams. Doohan however was at the only race he has experience in, and it was not only his debut race, but a trial. Some are saying that he is not impressing in the simulator either, otherwise they wouldn´t have replaced him. Colapinto brings in a lot of money with Sponsors, but Doohan is not exactly poor, he has enormous amounts of money backing him. In the end it does seem like it boils down to skill. my point with all this, is that I believe that Colapinto is not necessarily going to be Verstappen tomorrow, but he has a much higher cieling potential than Doohan.

No disrespect to you, Duck, but why do people run with these rumours as if they're true or have any real backing or proof?

It's never been cruel, all team goal is to want to win a driver and constructors championship. If an individual does not perform to a certain level of expectation, then expect to be sacked. According to many Formula 1 is the pinnacle of auto racing which means perfection.

Yeah but is that on the driver or the car? I don't mind AM's approach of addressing the car before the driver (we know who) First half of 2023 yeah, Lance was AM's biggest problem, but into 2024 he unironically fell down the list of AM's problems, which is just damning towards the technical staff. Hence the complete overhaul this offseason

Honestly, the racing market has always been this harsh but only when it came to redbull and i think every midfield team has seen how redbull managed to pull an insane amount of young talent through this extremely harsh driver policy and is now trying to emulate it

I think this is more so flavio being flavio than them looking at redbull cus just look at how much young talaylnt redbull has wasted. Kyviat, riccardo, almost gasly and albon, looking like tsunoda and lawson asw. Other than sainz the good drivers in the redbull junior program get assfucked into the next dimension. Notice how I didn't say great. Max and vettel are the outliers not the rule. That's bc great drivers do well wherever they are bc they are great. Other teams have put forward drivers with much less pressure and they have done a lot better. Think piastri, norris, colapinto, Russel, and if you want to go back further, look at bottas perex hulkenberg ect. These drivers came into the sport with normal pressure with midfielders like torro rosso alfa tauri vcarb minardi racing bulls. But unlike the redbull 2nd team. The teams gave junior drivers time to develop and didn't expect them to be sensational. Look at how toto is treating antonelli (now not before) or how vowles treated colopinto or sauber and bortoletto ect. They don't expect sensational drivers. Redbull adopted the flavio style cus that's what got flavio alonso and schumi. Yes it gets you the generational talent but it only gives you 1 maybe 2 of them. You don't win championship after championship by not allowing drivers to develop and just axing junior drivers for not being the next coming of either hamilton alonso schumi or max.

Now just to get this off my chest, I do not rate Doohan as F1 standard and I am still fuming that Martins is being left to die by Alpine. However, you can’t just give a driver 5 races to show their worth. It’s unethical, disrespectful (to everyone and I’m including the replacement driver), morally wrong (but this is Flavio Briatore we’re talking about). Drivers need a season, then you can check the data and work out if they’re showing any pace and/or promise
