BTW: St. Lawrence University professor Stephen Barnard - who I interviewed for this video - wrote a great opinion piece this week urging journalists not to abandon Twitter. "The news media cannot regain trust if they stop listening to their audience. So I urge journalists to stay with us on Twitter." On twitter you just "puke" what you want to say. You're not expected to read the replies or to listen to anybody. There is no conversation on there, only people shouting stuff (like the birds in the Pixar short)

Twitter and all social medias imo are more harmful to society and individuals than helpful. I stopped using all social media 6 years ago and my fears at the time we're things like how will I stay connected to my friends and family? The truth is I'm still connected to those I love and care about without any social media and my life has been a lot less anxious without it. I wish all social media would disappear

That’s why we talk about blockchain, it can align incentives. People are so focused on the markets they fail to see the practical utility. Wall Street motivates companies only to profit even if that screws society, corporations are legally bound to profit. Blockchain can motivate it’s constituents to fulfill it’s goal, which could be anything, and whether or not it achieves that goal is what gives any platform value.

Are you here to stay? Are you going to keep making new content under the Beme name indefinitely? Will you ever be just you, or are you a company man? I love the passage in Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs, where Jobs' cofounder and longtime friend, Steve Wozniak, said that he wanted a middle-management position in the company instead of a position at the top. He said his dad always advised that he not take on the stress of total control and instead have a middle position that let him focus on the parts of work that he truly loved. I would love to shoot with you in Detroit if you ever show up in my side of the country. Check out my channel.

"Does it's harm outweigh it's good?" In my old AP Style book, they described the internet as "two-thirds chaff, one-third actual valuable data." Am I "Old Man Yells at Cloud" if I think the chaff of #FakeNews et al., aren't Twitter's fault? The platform isn't the issue as much as the users are- Reddit, Twitter, etc.

"the profit motive is less important than the public good." is a sentence never said by any person ever in the history of people trying to make money companies are bound by law to maximize profit at all costs. thats why we have regulations, to force companies to act for the public good in conflict with the profit motive. also i disagree with the notion that twitter is bad for journalism. with twitter anyone can be a journalist and while you see that as a flaw lou, i see it as an advantage. think about how much power large media companies have, if they have a monopoly on journalism.
