My mom has been to prison before, I'm pretty sure. I only remember one birthday that my mom was there, And it was my sixth. I barely have any memories of it, But I have pictures that help jog my memory of it. She wasn't the best mom, And she still isn't, But she tries for her kids. She had four of us. She managed to lose custody of all of us. Mainly because of stupid shit. She kidnapped me and my sister when we were little. My dad and her had just broke up, And she needed to move out. But we would stay with him since the house was his, And she didn't have anywhere to go, Really. So while my dad was at work, She packed up, Told me and my sister to as well, And drove off with us without telling anyone she took us. I 'dunno what she did to lose custody of her third one, But she lost custody of the fourth one because she fed him meth to keep him quiet. I gave up on her when I found out she did that. I haven't seen her in a few years. My sister moved in with her a year ago, I think. They've been living in hotels. Not good ones. I love my mom, I do. But I don't like her. She's never gonna change, And I know it. She tries, But it's not enough. It never will be.

being in prison just for drugs that i want to quit anyways would make me angry. that's what leads to these repeat offenders, them being angry at how unfair it is.

Part of our problem is once an inmate is out of jail/prison they lack outside support. When my dad got out he was give $150 for a bus ticket home. If he didn't have family he would have ended up homeless.

God Bless these programs that allow these beautiful Moms to be with their precious children.

We need more diversion and support programs. It cost more in all the ways otherwise- financially, socially, and personally. It doesn’t make sense except that society has decided on punishment of the vulnerable. Preventative care is so important, and at all levels economic rationalism is expensive- and that’s just the monetary cost! It’s not ‘just’ a mental health problem- it’s systemic.

I’m just happy they’re trying. I’m happy they are trying and are doing anything they can to help there family!
