The winch didn’t fail, it’s gave 150% and didn’t stop till it destroyed its self. 12000lbs is a lot but with no limits it kept pulling till something gave. My concern with the warm is the limit switch. The capacity and function of the motor is relying on switch. Not of the instinct of the user….. scary design if you need it at 3am in a snow storm. Great looking winch though.

Winches are just amazing, I remember 4x4ing with my dad in the mountains, a light snow came in and then melted. So now that steep stretch of tilted cork screw road with a cliff on one side and ditch on the other was now slick with gooey mud and slick surface below and we had to go back across it to get out of there. Luckily forested with trees along the road, my dad had to go from tree to tree to tree with that winch to get us out of there with out sliding down the cliff or getting too close to the ditch. What a boss. lol So happy to see you are doing well Cody!

I work for a power company, and we have these on our smaller bucket trucks, one could rainy night I had my larger F800 bucket truck about 60 ft off the road and it was stuck and the only winch we had was on a small bucket .I pulled the smaller unit up to the curb to help hold it in place and that 16.5 pulled a 25k pound truck out of that situation.

It's called a fairlead and it's good to put the hook to the side and reel in the slack. The fairlead has a polished surface, winching the hook into it can raise burrs that would wear on your rope. According to the specs, the sound of the winch, at 8 feet, should be 70 dB. Your winch sounds like they forgot to fill the gearhead with lube. I'd get it checked. It could happen. I had a friend, that bought a new Ford truck, 30 years ago. Drove it about 100 miles and the passenger rear wheel and axle came off. When it left the factory, the diff was bone dry.

My first winch lasted me 6 years, it was a super cheap 9000lb Smittybilt. That little thing had over 50 big pulls on it, went though dozens of rivers and still kept on going. My new WARN 10-S is nice but I really wish I had kept the old one to see how long it would have lasted. Great video.
@alanj73063 жыл бұрын
Damn, that’s a loud winch. I almost thought something was wrong with it or that the gears needed to be greased. It’s just great to see you back to yourself and doing the things you enjoy. I agree with the cost factor. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. As well, some stuff is just overpriced garbage. With Warn, you’re going to pay, but you are paying for a quality item that is dependable and reliable. A winch is like a truck... it’s just better to have more than you need. It’s always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Y'know what? I wasn't happy with the badlands video and I left a comment to reflect that. I really felt like he treated it poorly and didn't give the company a fair shake when he broke it... But, Cody, I've decided to support your choice on this. There's no shame in going back to a trusted brand after a bad experience. Its you truck, your channel, and your preference. If you like the Warn, and it works for you, then theres nothing more to say on the subject. I hope you get years of joy out of your fancy new toy! I'm jealous, I don't even have a truck yet.

@@r.rodriguez4991 I thought winches had clutches with slip or some sort of overload protection? Impossible to know how much pulling force you are applying when pulling things out in the wild? IMHO the winch should just turn off and brake/hold the rope when the load is too high.

I’ve had the the 16.5ti on my 2017 f250 for 4 years now, it’s a beast! And the way it mounts gives it incredible strength in the frame of the winch and in the bumper. I pulled out my skid steer buried over the tracks in mud. I had to anchor the truck to a tree. I had just switched to synthetic line and used a snatch block. Was blown away with the strength of the synthetic line. The winch never even broke a sweat. Glad you’re feeling better and welcome back. I thought you were probably just taking a break after the loss of your father which would have been reasonable and understandable. But to follow up your loss with COVID just the worst. Thank you for your prayers and we will keep you in ours.

Cody you need to get a better connection to your battery for that warn winch. That winch pulls a lot of amps under load and that small bolt on your factory cable end will not carry enough amps. It will cause severe overheating of your winch motor very quickly. You need to change out your factory batteries in your truck to marine starting /deep cycle batteries with dual posts . One post on each side of the battery for your standard battery cable and a 3/8 threaded stud for the winch batt cable or you can add two deep cycle batteries in the bed for just the winch. If you use the two post replacement batteries it's best to run a jumper between the batteries on the winch posts. If you do so your winch will give you full performance longer duty cycles than you are going to get with that hook up to the factory batt cable that is way to small and the winch will last years longer.

I have a 12k Warn PowerPlant winch (made in China) mainly for the air compressor on my Ram 3500. The free spool locked up because it wasn't lubricated well from the factory or sat on the shelf too long at the store. Free spool was never smooth and barely able to operate when I first got it so I didn't use it. Rain must of gotten in and rusted up and was even worse where I had to take my Warn apart to get the free spool to work again. All manufactures have their problems. The Warn 16Ti is a mounting foot forward design which is stronger than the mounting down designs in the 12k and lighter winches. If the bumper flexes, it is likely to bend the connecting bars on the 16Ti winch but since the contactor is separate, not likely to see the same failure as the Badlands.
