@jewels3400
@jewels3400 Жыл бұрын
NO! He doesn't. It's absolutely unnecessary. There is something we need to note though, it isn't a justification. That's how he built his career. He got popular because he streamed for ungodly amounts of hours EVERYDAY. That worked for him and made him successful. Because of his dedication the server he was streaming on favored him, so did the people who knew they could just watch him whenever they wanted. What he did/does works, and makes him more money in this system. This is how he built his career. So, it's not bold to say it's all he knows. With this I hope we can give more effective feedback so he learns something. He probably won't though... He's been on the firing line too much to be receptive to disagreement, from comment sections.

I have nothing in common with Jay Exci apart from the fact that we live in the same country. But a streamer now, well a streamer is speaking directly to the consumer in real time. Streamer answers your questions. Streamer laughs at your jokes. Streamer thanks you profusely for the money you send them and blows you a kiss. And if a chatter is particularly isolated and in need of friends, this is all they need to subconsciously infer a deeper relationship from these handful of in jokes and positive responses. Hasan's fans be like: "He's a NEET! We have to give him bonus points for bothering to take care of himself." Like, idk, maybe just have periodic intermissions where you go and have a bio break but don't steal folks' content? Maybe don't stream 8+ hours a day continuously? Maybe get a second set up that films you while you cook so you can at least pretend that you're adding to the content? Get a laptop and move that set up when you move to a different room? Batch cook a bunch of food in preparation for your 8 hour stream so you don't have to leave? Get some damn noodles and a travel cooker and just cook in the same room? I haven't finished the video, but I'm at the part where the "but he needs to pee" argument is being put forth and I have so little patience for it because the content he makes takes like literally no effort. Man's goes on about how capitalism is evil and how it exploits everyone blah blah blah. Yet here he is, doing exactly what he accuses everyone who makes money of, stealing.

Clarifications and corrections: Hasan's business email IS publicly listed in his twitter bio, which I literally show on screen but somehow didn't notice while making this. It still shouldn't be a creator's responsibility to check but disregard any points about it being unclear how to contact him. That was a massive brain fart on my part. "Why did you wait 6 months to make this video?" I always intended to make it, but had other projects I wanted to make first. "Why are you making fun of Hasan for forgetting a word?" That was not my intent. There are a few jokes in the segment where I cover Hasan's reaction, and maybe I didn't understand him as clearly as I could have, but the important point of that section of the video is that spending 2 minutes making vague comments is not enough to meet the standards I outline in this video. If you have one takeaway from that section of the video, please make it that. "You are pretending this is all of Hasan's react content when he is actually known for pausing." No, I am not. You were not paying attention. I explicitly say in the video at 10:12. In the streams of Hasan's that I watched for this video it seemed pretty clear that this is something he generally only does while he's eating. I do not believe there is any excuse to EVER create a react video without even attempting to transform it or shoutout its creator. I use the word cabbage as a joke insult in this video along with the words rhombus, muppet, and lemon. Apparently there are parts of the world where cabbage is an ableist slur? I suppose there are some things you can only find out after you post the video and someone tells you. Hopefully the context makes it clear that I was referring to the food, and not trying to invoke any other meaning the word has. Still though, here's a clarification just in case.

It sucks that the only way for someone to step away from their computer while streaming on twitch is to let random youtube vids run while you do it. It would be great if there was some sort of way to display a graphic saying something along the lines of "on break, will return soon;" a method streamers have been implementing for years. If only there was a concept predating streaming where someone performing a particular service could let any potential customers know that they were taking some sort of hypothetical "lunch break." Almost like a sign someone could display to let people know they are stepping away from their current activity to eat, but will be back shortly? I'm just spitballing here since, of course, this has never been tried before.

When I first came to Twitch in 2011, there was this streamer who took a break every hour. He spent the break playing video game music, with on-screen credit for artist and game. Now, 2022, there's a streamer I enjoy who takes a break every two or so hours and shows fan art during his breaks, accompanied by non-DMCA music, all credited. I found many great soundtracks through those breaks. So yeah the length of the stream sounds like a lousy excuse to me. You can just pause the stream, or turn it off entirely if you are away for a longer time. I enjoy reaction videos because seeing people give their thoughts or get excited or surprised at stuff is fun to me. A lot of streamers who's regular content I do enjoy just... sit there and do nothing. And Hasan can't even do that, lol.

The issue with pausing the stream, the video, etc. is that the viewers aren't there for the streamer. They're basically watching a curated "program" with a chatroom. They're not there for *reaction* content. They're watching TV with fake internet friends. I don't think the viewers or the streamers of this kind of "content" are entirely aware that that is what they are doing. Because literally all it would take to improve your optics and massively improve your optics is a one-line overlay at the bottom where you copy/paste the video and channel name.

But I personally also have a lot of issues with what hassan represents, he is an Image, just a signifier for socialism but he is actually capitalism in its real form. I like to draw an analogy with how companies work today. The company (hassan) spends time and effort to grow, then when established as a powerful entity in the market, they just sit and chill reaping the profits out of workers (content creators). And if he was honest about that, that would be okayish for me personally, but he wont admit. I mean my contention with all of this is not that I disagree but where exactly the central cause of all of this lies and consequently how to proceed in addressing this, which instead of being placed on [insert individual scapegoat here] would be in the "mode of production" that orients _all_ of our individual material interests/incentives and reifies its boundaries of action subconsciously, possibility strictly bounded to profitability as determined by the deified "market" (praise be). To ostensibly put the blame here on people just sort of choosing all of this seems to be missing the forest for the mildly annoying trees, ie in the grand scheme of things this is so inconsequential and entirely an inevitable outcome of the material organization of reality we call capitalism more than any individual's supposed choice or essentialized shittiness/"badness". So again, why do I mention this? Well it informs what the actual solution is. So if we agree that existence _precedes_ essence, we must also agree that, as some guy put it, _"Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past. The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living."_ - some guy In other, other words, getting rid of Hasan individually or him miraculously producing interesting commentary/whatever doesn't do anything to the overarching system that inevitably produces Hasans, this is no problem of individuals and ideas, material reality's organization at its foundation in terms of ownership/property is the core cause here and without addressing that this is merely just complaining to the manager essentially. No surprise really, all of our political orientations are cultivated in the narrow/limited ontological direction of individual consumer (rather than one of collective material consciousness, aka "class consciousness") to maintain a complacent non-militant class domination of the ownership class over the working class (for a historical juxtaposition, see like the optimates dominion of the late Roman empire), the origin of this "stealing" of "content" to begin with. I feel like I'm shittily explaining this, so here's that guy again to articulate better, it's the difference between an individual normative v. systematic descriptive consideration here basically, _"The bourgeoisie cannot exist without constantly revolutionizing the instruments of production, and thereby the relations of production, and with them the whole relations of society. Conservation of the old modes of production in unaltered form, was, on the contrary, the first condition of existence for all earlier industrial classes. Constant revolutionizing of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones. All fixed, fast-frozen relations, with their train of ancient and venerable prejudices and opinions, are swept away, all new-formed ones become antiquated before they can ossify. All that is solid melts into __-air-_ ["reaction content"/NFTs/Crypto/finance/tech bs, all unconsciously undergirded by global US corporate empire entirely taken for granted], _all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind."_ - some guy, again (Marx, to not be pointlessly facetious lol...), a bit optimistic at the end we wouldn't just choose individual delusion while everything burns... Basically just trying to bring some uh "dasein" in this consideration, to broaden one's conception of what's actually going on here beyond mere individual critique, idk check out dialectical/historical materialism if what I'm saying understandably doesn't compute, or hey check out the conception of base/superstructure as a helpful visual for the metaphysical recontextualization I'm trying to highlight _or_ don't?! _"The ultimate hidden truth of the world is that it is something we make and could just as easily make differently."_ - the late great David Graeber The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways: the point, however, is to change it.

Speaking of TomSka, he did a 24-hour livestream a few years ago, and when he and his co-hosts took bathroom and food breaks, he played new original videos in ten minute segments that he'd prepared especially to avoid dead air. I assumed that was just standard practice since I rarely watch livestreams, so I'm really amazed that Hasan seemingly doesn't perform very basic pre-planning for the thing that appears to be his job.
@RRB99
@RRB99 2 жыл бұрын
That's what's wild about this, and I think Jay said this in a previous stream/video about the topic-Hasan could very easily put out a tweet asking for original content to play during his breaks. That way, he gets to continue entertaining his audience while he's away, *and* the content creator has approved their content being played on stream. Hasan doesn't even need to make the new content himself.

I really don't rate Hasan's content, commentary and takes. It's bottom tier breadtube for me. I have a few problems with it, while I admit he might have changed his approach, or improved it since I last caught his stuff. I found he was over-reactive (ironically enough, playing it up, exaggerating for the drama), not well informed at all on even the most basic of issues. Worse, he often hadn't heard or understood whatever he was reacting to correctly, and then promptly gave a response to something that wasn't said because he wasn't paying enough or even basic attention to what he was suppose to be reacting to. His commentary was much of the quantity over quality variety. I think when you actually start to look at what he says/does critically, rather than through the lens of confirmation bias (he is on 'our' side therefore when he critises something he is fighting the good fight) it really doesn't hold up to scrutiny. His woeful ukranian takes, and his inability to take any kind of criticism and total lack of self-reflection have opened some more eyes to the gapping flaws that were already there. That's my opinion anyway.

Dumb people are incapable of seeing the effects of their own selfishness and believe that everybody should work around the inconveniences they put on others, for their own convenience. I agree with everything you said but would like to add an argument that isn't ever used by these Streamers but many think the thought. I can't understand it but it's there. If they were to actually go ahead and slap on a BRB Screen for longer than a few minutes (idk more than 5 - 10 mins) their viewership drops, chat engagement slows down etc. which is to some level a valid Point to be brought up. Since their "Engagement" literally persist of Chat going Bonkers with cringe Comments and Emote Spams and they themselves know for how much of a clownery their selling themselves for on these Platforms. Not to mention how "bad" it would be for them to pause stream by actually ending it while taking a real Break like a normal person for once while they cook, use the restroom or maybe even go for a walk (if you're into that) etc. and then start streaming again later. I 100% don't endorse this behaviour when done the way many of these big Streamers do it. I also hate how some of these big streamers force themselves "having to Stream for x Hours a Day/Week" but we can't forget they technically need to at least hit a certain goal for their Job to be profitable enough to keep doing it. I would claim that is borderline a self-inflicted toxic Work Environment and Exploitation but they chose to do this as their Job so how bad should i really feel here? There's nothing my artist friends loathe more than a "customer" saying something along the lines of: "It will pay you in exposure." Their response is almost always some variant of, "I can't EAT exposure." The sheer arrogance of someone assuming they're so famous that they convey the Midas touch to anything they brush up against is staggering. They're literally implying that KZbin creators should be grateful for the proximity provided by filling their downtime, that it elevates their work no matter how shabbily they use it. Networking is a part of a lot of jobs, and establishing contacts can be vital to success, but when you're not even bothering to contact for permission...? When you're making it someone ELSE's labor to discover your use of their content...? That's exploitation. It's nothing to expect anyone to be grateful for. Bringing the camera with you into the bathroom would be an apt metaphor for the respect you're showing their work.
