I love y'all but... honeybees are not endangered and not native to the US, they are from Europe... so Jake you are right, honeybees are colonizers. Unfortunately our native bees are competing with honeybees for food because honeybees are generalist pollinators and can feed from most plants. I'm not saying that honeybees don't have positive impacts for food production, but if your goal is habitat restoration and supporting your local ecosystem then honeybees can actually be not so great. Planting native plants that are hosts for specialist pollinators is the key to saving the bees! Most of them are solitary and don't need hives, but do need places to make their nests.

Its so nice to see you caring about squashing them when you put their lid back. We have lids that sit on top not over and we put them on angled, then rotate the lid on straight so the least amount of bees are in the gap to get smooshed

Loved the episode but sadly been keeping is bad for wildlife. Our honey bees push out native bees and pollinators. The bees that are at risk are native not the European Honey bees we cultivate. No hate but please don’t spread misinformation- love u guys :D
