I live in a mixed household. There is a real problem in the black community. Some how unmarried single parenting has become the cultural norm, something like 70%. In most cases single mothers dominate the household. The men are demasculated. This isn't good for children, it's stressful, and the isolated mothers raise another generation with unhealthy values. With each child it gets worse. One of the contemporary sources is 1970s welfare that paid families to break up.

These forums never mention the real reasons for why black women are single. It's not their degrees, it's not their success, it's not their "strength." It's their obesity, single parenthood, and emasculating attitudes. Keep it 100 or be quiet. It looks like your audience is majority black female, so that's probably why you couldn't tell the whole truth. There is nothing that a woman can do or gain that will intimidate me. Black women, as a collective, just have a lot of problems that they need to work on before can they call themselves "wife material." Black men have their issues, too, but the question is... "why so many black women are single and alone?"

Island Ninja Exactly, lol. If a black man has a problem with women who make more, it's because he knows that she will never let him forget it. Women abuse power quicker than men. This is why everyone, including women, hate having a female boss. Black women with cushy jobs and social status have large egos. That's the turnoff, not the money or status.

***** Essence magazine just did a study recently which suggested that black women value looks above all other criteria when selecting mates, unlike other races of women, who value character, personality and the ability to provide before caring about looks. How often do you see beautiful black women with homely, nerdy and square black guys? Very seldom.

I am a black woman and I would rather be single for the rest of my life than be in a relationship and deal with all of these labels. I'm 28 and I've already decided I never want to bring a child into this world. Yes, I can raise my child to live with positive ideals and perspectives, but this "black and white" world just frustrates me. No one wants to see each other beyond their skin color. We say we're living in modern times but we're still walking around with primitive minds. We have to break free from the shackles of our own ignorance and fear and just give each other a chance.

I went to a single event at my church and they were taking about dating and getting marry. I heard a few of the women say some thing that annoyed me. These women are very successful and they were saying they want a man or husband, but that they make plenty of money and can do everything for themselves and they just kept going on and on about what they have. I finally stood and asked them why are they here if they don't need a man, because they have so much money etc. They didn't say anything.

I just wish one person would point out that most of the positives he state for Black women such as good jobs, education, material possessions etc. and negatives when it comes to Black women finding mates. It's not intimidation, it's the fact that all of these achievements are the achievements that a man would present before a father when he was seeking a woman's hand. In short, there are many Black women that would make great husbands.

I think most black woman's problem is other black women(or other unsuccessful woman). I've dated a few black woman, and had loving relationships, but i notice they place more value on how the relationship is perceived to other people(mother, friends), rather then focusing on their partner. Actually this is ALL women, but i think the moral compass of a lot of their peers is unrealistic. They think its a man's job to "save" them from their poor choices, instead of working hard with someone to earn a more in life.
@GAshoneybear
@GAshoneybear 9 жыл бұрын
Now I think this is more realistic than any other comment. I know a lot of my friends have avoided dates or ended relationships with Indian, Moroccan, Japanese, and Danish men because they were afraid of what their families would think or their friends didn't take it kindly. These were really nice men and they liked them a lot, but, like you said, family and friends were more important.

At the end of the day if you dont know how to depend on one another your relationship is doomed. When i got laid off shortly after me and my then Fiancee moved into a home and was supposed to get married that summer, she stepped up and worked 2 jobs as well as i did also i took a job paying a lot less to help out with bills as unemployment money wasnt enough, so i worked 2 full time jobs to make ends meet she worked a full and part time job. when she took a new position in 2014 and didnt work during summers i worked extra to make enough money to help her out took over some bills as i now had a full time way better paying job... its give and take my wife is strong but she is not independent we depend on each other as it should be in any relationship, marriage or friends... Blaming circumstances is a cop out we as black folks need to learn how to love one another first before we start getting sexual and fiscal with one another. Period!

I think a lot of commenters did not get his point. I think he is trying to say that black women have taken up the role of men but are still looking for a man she has taken the place of, so when looking for a man they are never good enough. He is not saying that black men are scared of powerful black women. They are scared off because she has lost the ability to be a woman and let him be a man in a traditional sense. It does not mean she needs to be a docile pup who he walks over but do not clown him because he does not hold the prestigious degree you do or make a little less than you at his job.

I've never been in a situation or witnessed a couple suffering from the woman makes more than me issues. Most of my friends make more than their women and hold higher degrees. And even still, we've had a hard time finding black women who are secure enough to let us lead. Its hard to deal with that, and when you're in a major city why bother? There's too many women out there to wait for a particular woman to come around or mature beyond her insecurities.

This whole blame game thing is tired, distasteful, immature and utterly embarrassing. The entire world laughs at us. We have brothas thinking as long as their on the winning team (whites) they are in the clear. Sistahs thinking we are superior to the black man because of the opportunities the white man gives us. Both parties disregarding the long term effects on ourselves and future generations. It hurts me so much to see what we have become, looking at where we started. I am ashamed. Hurt. And angry. Angry at myself for unknowingly playing a role in the destruction of the black family. Angry at the causes of the trauma. But we can't continue going to war with each other. We must heal each other. We must reflect and understand why we embrace and perpetuate the very things that aid in our destruction. We all need to heal. Stop blaming each other and self reflect. As a successful man of color, I can tell you you’ve missed the mark. Rather than focusing on introspection, you’ve placed the focus on externals. Men like feminine, submissive, young and attractive women, doesn’t matter if you’re white, black, yellow or brown. Women go wrong assuming that the same thing they’re attracted to is the same thing men are attracted to. Women look for success and status, men prize youth and beauty. It’s that simple.

Strong, independent, successful, educated black woman. . . I keep hearing that. "Why is it that these strong, independent, successful, educated black women can't blah blah blah..." Whoever said that is what a man wants in woman? Where do we get that idea from? Personally I would take softness, femininity, beauty, and charm over those other things ANY DAY! Who wants to be in a relationship with a rough and tough strong chainsaw of a woman? Men want flowers. Let the man be the tough and let the lady be the flower . . . or keep on being the chainsaw and watch your men reject you for that lady who will be soft and supportive and delicate and beautiful and charming and feminine.

The group of black girls in prive highschool I grew up with and tried to get at didn't have this, "strong black woman," mentality and didn't come with all this baggage. Some black girls were a bit messed up, and I can see it especially their single mothers, but not many of them were like this. After highschool I realized that a lot of black women grew up in a "differen't" culture than I did with crazy "independent soul sister" thoughts and such. Black girls used to be my first choice with more stable black girls I met in highschool but looking at these black women of the world, It's sad. I've always had really pleasant relationships with white women though even in highschool when they weren't my first choice. At this point I don't have a prefence based on "race," I just as get along with the women who arent crazy.

I think most of the black american women who fit them selves in the "i am a strong woman group" should learn from the good black women who work and still cater for their families. An idiot like you fall in that list. Prove,women who are actually strong don't talk about it. In Africa, the Caribean and Brazil, the measure of woman's strength is how good and successful her home is. if you cant keep one, stop bragging about a stupid career that's too common. strong people handle challenging stuffs, and Marriage is a challenge for both the man and the women. divorce rate in africa and the caribean is about 10%. now these women can call themselves strong. not you skanks

Black women have too many issues starting with CHILDHOOD. Most blk girls in the last 2 generations were not born into love much less marriage. They don't know how to be wives because their unwed mom is still hitting da club well into her 40's. Because so many were not in the home with their fathers they were often abused by mom's boyfriend or a family member who seek out fatherless kids. I heard a DJ say over 10yrs ago that he made a conscious decision to only date women born into traditional marriages. He said u can dog me, say what u want but I found a good wife that know her role and that is all that matter.

It's a shame a lot of women these days assume everything needs to be a competition or a chance to prove themselves, and like he says, a lot of attitude comes along with that because those types of women havn't learned to balance themselves out yet. (generalizing, obviously) The thing is, that can take generations for the gender roles to balance themselves out again. (and it's unlikely they'll ever go back to the way they were unless there's an economic collapse, which history shows resets things almost immediately)

I don't ask why they are single because it's well known that a lot of black men hate the idea of commitment and they refuse to settle .Black women are moving to men who want to be committed... problem solved. see the thing is that black women have been so blindly loyal to black men for so long. It's not that other races didn't want us, its that we did not give him access to us. But now some of us are wising up. Now I'm not going to say that I don't love black men because I'm actually with a black man right now but I don't feel that black women can only find happiness with black men. I think the same way that men are dating out women need to do it also. I actually don't even think that the single rate is as high as the media states that it is but it's cool. black women should go where they are celebrated. We don't want to have to work with black men to find out why they date outside. with all of the issues that black men have we have still been loyal as a collective. but enough is enough. Let them do what they want to do and let them leave knowing that they would not treat a black woman right if he had her anyway. Time to move on and live life.

He makes soo much sense as far as the focus of each sex. But it does matter how you are brought up as well. I wasn't brought up how to be a wife or how to master the role of a woman for a man, I had to observe through friends and their marriages. So it took me longer, I didn't dream about having a husband at a young age I just focused on my life. But ,most black men don't get into long term relationships until early mid 30's because they feel they have to get "everything out of their system" where as most other cultures seek their partner early in life. Black men do feel they have a heavy responsibility to bare as far as not failing, so I can empathize with the situation. BUT when you have a lot of black women out here who are educated AND ride or die for our men, there is no excuse. Not saying there are some black women who whine, who can be "ratchet" BUT the same goes for black men as well. The fear and the unknown has to stop with our brotha's, if a woman has your back don't be scared just roll with it. Ladies we have stop saying we want a "man" but state we want a husband. What comes out of our mouths is what we get, "a man" which transforms to "any man". At that point men will stop taking advantage of us because there is so many of us to men ratio, then finally we will get the respect that we deserve when we bring greater to our lives.

Noah Hester Yes you are absolutely correct that people are responsible for their own choices. I totally agree with you and do not blame neither god or the white man for the current state of black people. I do understand there is a historical context to everything. Cause = Effect. The choices that people make are based on their core beliefs which are ingrained deep in their minds/psyche. They produce automatic behaviors that most people don't even notice or know are wrong. Beliefs are developed over a lifetime of experiences, environment, perceptions, people, religion, and media. Beliefs tell us what is right or wrong, good or bad. The current situation in the black community was not the case 60 years ago. Most black people who had children were married and the husbands dared not ever leave their families. What do you see that happened in just 60 years that led to the decline that we are faced with today? Where an alarming number of black men are not afraid to honestly and publicly admit that they hate black women?

It's very annoying, disrespectful, non fact based, wreckless, unthoughtful, narrow minded, ignorant, judgemental and illogical how people can't separate someone's JOB from the PERSON. It's sickening! We are literally labeling people, giving them titles and judging them based off of their jobs, material possessions and education. But not taking anytime to look into and focus on the PERSON that they are, which makes no sense, because that's who you're getting into a relationship or marriage with. People are basing the value and worth of a PERSON off of their job and material possessions. Delusional ! Anyone who claims to have common sense or is over 30 yrs old should be ashamed about this way of thinking. We're saying Joe is "AVERAGE" ,"UNATTRACTIVE" , "UNQUALIFIED" and "INCAPABLE" of dating certain women just because he makes $35,000 a year, has no degree and lives in an apartment complex. We say John is "GREAT" "ATTRACTIVE "QUALIFIED" and "CAPABLE" of dating certain women because he makes $55,000 a year, has a degree and is a renting a house. And the TRUTH of the matter is. We don't know which guy is more qualified or in position to have a good relationship with a woman because you don't know anything about them as MEN personally. After browsing around KZbin and watching numerous videos from a variety of different people talking about why relationships and marriages are failing and why having a strong, positive, healthy relationship has become more difficult. It blows my mind, how NOBODY is addressing the obvious problems. The hosts on these different platforms miss the mark and people in the comments. THE WHOLE FOCUS IS ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY SOMEONE MAKES, HOW MANY DEGREES THEY HAVE, WHAT KIND OF HOUSE THEY LIVE IN, WHAT TYPE OF CAR THEY HAVE, WHAT THEIR CAREER IS, WHAT TITLE THEY HAVE. WHAT'S THEIR IMAGE. HOW ARE THEY PERCEIVED BY FAMILY, FRIENDS AND THE PUBLIC. STATUS AND EGO. Meanwhile people are leaving out the easiest and biggest no brainier to begin with. #1 - You have to GOD at the top of the list PERIOD! This goes for men and women. It shows a real lack of maturity and how screwed up everyone's priorities are. I don't know how you plan on anything being successful in your life without God being attached to it. So I'm not sure that people are even properly aligned in their own lives to begin with because I find it hard to believe that people are in tune with themselves, their inner being, God, their spirit and the universe on a daily basis and are in constant prayer about things they want to manifest and succeed in their life. But then completely forget about and leave God out the equation and thought process when it comes to finding people to date. And then other values and qualities. I mean that's all you want in a relationship or marriage? I never hear women say FIRST! I want a man who is led by God, a man who will pray with me, a man that will help me become a better person, a man to show me new things. Nothing! And I don't hear men saying FIRST! I want a woman who is led by God. A woman who prays, a woman who knows how to lead a house but is still submissive. This is real life. And when it's death in the family, when the kids need guidance, when it's time to make important decisions about what to do with your older parents when they can't care for themselves anymore, when someone loses a job or takes a pay cut, when it's time to open a new business, time to sell the house, help your kids get a good start in life after they graduate, being supportive of your mate during a tough time, being a good listener, effective communication etc. The list goes on and on and on and on. AND YOUR JOB TITLE, THE TYPE OF CAR YOU DRIVE, YOUR COLLEGE DEGREE and CONDO YOU LIVE IN HAVE ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NOTHING TO DO WITH IT ALL! At that point, your degree in life skills, problem solving, coming up with solutions, not panicking or stressing. Staying composed and calm. Love, support, comfort, trust. That's what's needed! GOD IS NEEDED! Also as black people, we all had the same cards stacked against us from the beginning. We all had the same titles and labels put on us about "not being good enough" "not being qualified" "not being capable" "not being human" JUST BECAUSE WE WERE BLACK. And then we turn around and do this shit to each other? We really need to cleanse our minds, souls and spirits out. We are doing ourselves a real injustice by dealing with each other in this way.

I think it's very pertinent to notice that he had to go all the way back to slavery when describing the conditions that lead up to our current state of "black relationships". for so many men to feel, act, and be the same way, that TO ME equals "conditioning" and "training". Same for black women. we have a lot of traditions we need to question, research, and break away from IF the goal is to have happy TRUSTWORTHY relationships then we have to have healthier dialog and call things out for what they are, and at the end of the day, it's not OUR (black men or women) FAULT it's how it is, it's only our FAULT for choosing to not CHANGE it.

I for one, 100% support interracial relationships and marriages. 70% of black women are single, What? What percentage of them are single parents? Because, I cannot date any women who has children. Don't get me wrong, I've tried it and I don't like it! I just can love a child that is not mine, like I would love a child that is mine. When I see a single mom I always ask myself where is that child's father and why are they not together. I understand that in some cases the father could have past away via accident, society or military. However, I'm assuming the 70% excludes those scenarios. Another thing, I've searched the net for four days now and American black women are the only women complaining about there being no good men of their own race! I've also narrowed the time frame where things started going downhill for ABW (American Black Women) to the 90's, yes 1990-1999. I've tried dating ABW when I was younger but they would tell me things like, I was too nice or I couldn't handle them. Conclusion: I believe that many of the 70% ABW have met good black men but turned them down like in the above scenario. It's plausible that you ladies may have inadvertently pushed good black men to explore interracial relationships and we are loving it.

Lady/Woman I don't give FEMALES that benefit to give them the same title I would give my great Grand Mother, which is a WOMAN/LADY, Her generation made sure they kept their roles in a relationship in chekc, and thats why their generation 50's on down, majority kept a MAN/HUSBAND, wasnt nothing about H.I.V/AIDS, CHILD SUPPORT etc. Now soon as FEMALES start doing their own thing, everything falls apart! ESPECIALLY children"FACTS"

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Mr. Hasani Pettiford, for not putting all the blame on black women, which is what a LOT of people do (particularly Black people). There are other factors that come into play that people don't talk about. For example, 43% of black males are also single. (Why?) Also, it has been said that black women outnumber black men by 1.8 million. On top of that, black women tend to prefer black men rather than dating or marrying outside of their race. This limits her opportunity for marriage even more.

No. The real world will show you that women end up single by relying on a pregnancy, welfare, or the court system to entrap a man then get rid of him and then live off the government and/or his child support checks. I see this in all races but especially blacks, and that is because of the Democrat party and other factors working to keep black people down. My advice to you is hopefully not too late and it is, use contraceptives religiously, get a higher education preferably in a trade, and be independent by buying only what you can afford. That will attract a serious, loving person, not a player.

Very well said. These principles apply to every race and both sexes. males have a desire to protect and provide for his family. that doesn't mean dominate. it's actually a serving state of mind. If he is with a woman who does not need (because of her own wealth or welfare) or want (because of how she was taught) his help then he doesn't doesn't commit to marriage.

Look at the end of the day it's about how you make a man FEEL. Do you make him FEEL good or bad. Do you talk to the king in him or the fool in him? Do you nitpick at everything he does wrong or appreciate the things he does right? Do you make him laugh, can he be vulnerable around you? If he cries to you, do you make fun of him, tell him to man up, or simply hold him and let him cry? Can he trust you with his most inner fears and insecurities ... will you use these against him later on in an argument? Can he count on you to support his goals and dreams? Do you talk to him like a grown man or a little boy? Do you ask him to do something (versus telling him?)... Do you let him know how much you appreciate the little things (thanking him for taking out the trash, going to work, putting in applications to find work, going to see the doctor and taking his health seriously)? Most importantly, do you RESPECT him? Most men and people don't care about your accolades, your success, if you make them feel like crap. Most men (well the respectable ones) will move mountains for the woman who treats him like a King.

I'm not understanding why staying single is such a bad thing? Not every woman wants to marry and have children. There are some of us out here that are quite comfortable and happy being single. I'm 37, never been married, no children, celibate, and very successful. I am single by choice, and it's not because there aren't good men (I believe there are) or that I can't find or keep a man (because I'm sure I can). I am retiring from the Army this year with 20 years of service. I have a Bachelors degree in Human Services and will obtain my Masters in Mental Health Counseling. I have never desired marriage or children. I love being single! I feel sorry for people who are constantly looking for love and can't find or keep it.

hasani pettiford To get on here and speak out against and for all black women is just another reason our race is in the state its in. Only our race has men consistently downing their women over everything from hair to skin color and it's sad. Relationships are not that hard and every black man or women doesn't want the same thing. Its about two like minded people coming together and how can one man speak for all or one woman speak for all. If a woman works and goes to work last time I checked it is called being an adult and does not mean a woman does not want a man and if she does not want one then its her choice. A lot of black men want to control black women and disrespect and dog them then turn around and say oh you worked to hard, you didn't respect me.. grow up and stop blaming women for your issues. And can we please stop stereotyping all black people? I love being a black woman and love our race but the putting each other down and hearing men do it consistently, is weak. Do you hear any other race that does this? I have yet to see it.

MinecraftSoldier1000 a lot of black men also dont want to commit to a relationship bcse they think they are every womens sexual fantasy and why b tied dwn to one person. I see black women who pretend to b married to a man bcse they r in long term relationships but their men will not marry them. One is bcse we don't demand it like other women and ironically when they have been w this person and the kids are now grown then he wants marriage. Now in their 50s they want marriage seemingly when their sexual prowess starts to decline. Is that a coincidence? I suspect they were cheating all along hoping something better may come along but leaving their options open. They don't look at it as cheating bcse technically she his not his wife.

If a person wants to judge you , put you in a box with all the others , give you an attitude for no reason and act like they are above you why would you be with that person ? We are all just human beings and deserve mutual respect . If a woman can't give you respect as a man then leave her alone . I don't care how she looks , if she is black , where she works , her education level ...it all means nothing ! Every minute in your life is significant so don't waste it on the wrong people !!!

The term "black women" is a broad one why not instead state "some black american women", rather than the universal term black women which applies to black women globally. The term black is not exclusive to Americans when describing black people worldwide, this annoys me especially as most black Americans have little to no experience of having met black people from outside of the US. #Ignorance

Original Hebrew Most Americans don't even travel outside of their domestic region i.e. the US. By comparison black people from other countries not only travel but study and work abroad that is common place. Hence why most Americans seem to assume that America is the be all and end all of life and hold a limited perspective of the world. It's obviously a generalisation but true nonetheless.
@donnab.333

R Sosa Not true. My experiences at school & being in the military show & tell me otherwise. I met many Americans, particularly Black Americans that were nonmilitary that were living abroad, some being my own blood relatives who either worked for the US government (nonmilitary job) or a private company in the country I was stationed; there were also other Black Americans who lived/worked in this country (again, nonmilitary), & this was over 20+ years ago. There are too many websites, which show many Americans, now living abroad, still receiving their retirement benefits, etc. from the US (this includes Black Americans); there are many websites for travel clubs for Black Americans living abroad; I mean heck they got facebook groups (closed groups) for either Blacks traveling abroad and/or Black Expats (including from the US); & there are many videos/websites from Black Americans who are permanently living abroad & have been doing so for years. Again, disagree with you there is too much evidence to prove otherwise. All you have to do is research it.
@MrSosa35

Original Hebrew I'm not saying some Americans do not leave the US maybe many within your profession and social circle do but the vast majority particularly those within the black community don't. The geographical knowledge of many black Americans I've experienced even those considered rather intelligent was very poor. Many travel internally but externally not so much although I must say this is starting to slowly change. You would be hard pushed to find say a black person in Europe who hasn't left their particular country of birth or who hasn't visited at least three countries by the time they're twenty.

Good stuff here my Brotha but these events (Single Black Women) ( Black Women Head of Household) ( Black Women making more money) are not random, these are calculated events. Like you said with tracing it back to the beginning, it is found that once the Tribe is broken that group will no longer exist, on its own. This is a heavy subject but I just wanted to note that it is not and accident, the things taking place are calculated events that have been going on since the defeat of Africa. You don't just defeat a Tribe, you also have to ensure it Never rises again. Peace to You My Brotha
