Agreed. The RETRO COLLECTION should stick to the original trilogy - with all-new sculpts of previously unreleased characters from Kenner’s SW lines. The new stuff (Prequels, Sequels, and DISNEY TV SW) does NOTHING for me. I’d be interested in a RETRO COLLECTION set that covered the characters from the 1978 Holiday Special.

I actually really liked those 5 POA Prequels figures they did for cheap many years ago.. (in theory) "because they were cheap" & the novelty of them being "in the manner of" the Kenner line, but apparently that they sold, was what Made Hasbro kill off the more articulated Clone Wars era 3.75" body template for years afterwards to save some pennies.. So... that they look like a normal 3.75" figure now only with fewer joints is just visually confusing to me. As there is some who don't mind being farmed for Nostalgia and other who actually want a toy that can be moved in a way other than a Nutcracker Suite trooper.

Kind of agree... But New Sculpts woudl not be Retro... That was the entire point of teh line when Hasbro launched it - To Emulate what Kenner did back when Kenner were the License Holders... They promised New Figures from Newer movies and TV shows that could stand alongside and be a part of any Vintage Star Wars Collection. Instead, They have gone for Detail, and the only thing Retro is they only have 5POA!!!

The new sculpts released so far (for OT characters) fits in nicely (imo) with the existing classic Kenner figures. I have no problem with Gov Tarkin, Snowspeeder Luke, nor Mon Mothma (my favourite, so far). Can't speak for the DISNEY SW TV characters, though, as I won't touch the new stuff (and the Prequel / Sequel Trilogy).

you are spot on about how Hasbro keep screwing up this line. I have bought some of the retro figures for my kids for $4 US from Ollie's, but the only one I have paid full price for is Cara Dune because of how Disney screwed over Gina Carano. They could have rereleased all 117+ original figures and made these "kenner" style figures for the new projects, but they botched it by not getting us old timers to buy into the line with the limited assortments.

For example- the average American with a 401k or retirement fund or mutual fund gives 5% of their money to these funds and the funds are managed by woke dei corporations . You are spot on in every way in my opinion. Hasbro should focus on bringing the complete original Kenner line back first. Maybe even some vehicles. Everything else doesn’t deserve the “Retro” badge. I’m glad I still kept the full lineup of all vehicles boxed from the 90s re-release which are based on the original molds. A new Retro Collection Taun Taun or Dagobah Playset would be nice though 😁

The thing about the retro figures are they are a lower price point for children. $11 is a lot better than $17 to buy for kids. Kids use imagination and can go without the added articulation of vintage collection. The Catina looks great but it’s too big and expensive. You’d need to buy a special case for it. The bar tender was made in the power of the force or Jedi.

With a few exceptions, I pick up the non-original trilogy retro figures when they go 50%+ on sale. They need to do more two packs of the originals. They did that with the bounty hunters and i thought that was great. Maybe I'd pick up the acolyte figures for $5 or less?

This makes me wonder how much control Hasbro actually has over what they produce. The sad shell of its former self, Lucasfilm, might be dictating what gets produced. Even though they KNOW what sells, they just have to keep pushing this type of less-than-wanted product to support their new shows. Almost as if they think they will convince toy fans that Disney Star Wars is real Star Wars. “Look! Our shows and movies have toys JUST LIKE the older, good Star Wars does.” They are obviously doubling-down on shows that most people don’t like. Why not produce toys that will also be rejected by most people? The complete destruction of Star Wars on all fronts.

Before the show aired, I was actually a little bit excited to get some content in this time period, despite not having read any of the High Republic books or comics, outside of what was featured in the Star Wars Insider Magazine. I try to keep an open mind about new content until I have a chance to judge myself. And while this series isn't out in full obviously at this point, I have watched the first three episodes as well. While I didn't mind the first two, the third wasn't quite as intriguing. Identity politics aside, this definitely feels like a lower tier of content in story writing, dialogue, acting and overall feel. I heard someone mention it was the "CW" version of Star Wars content, and find that analogy to be very fitting. As for these newly released figures from Hasbro, having seen this same trend with all the other shows, I wasn't surprised that these were going to be released. I too am a huge fan of the retro line, more so the old figures, but the ones they've made thus far have for the most part fit in pretty well with classic displays, even if they aren't time period correct. All that said, despite saying that no one but the hasbro schills & suckers will spend money on these...I have to admit, that I did pre-order this set from Amazon Dean. :shame: Part of me is ashamed to support this, but another part of me, the completionist, said that I needed to grab these (despite, as you said, not being overly interested in these figures). 🤦 But the good thing about a pre-order is, that I can also cancel it as I'm sure this set will be discounted/clearance at some point and maybe I wouldn't feel so bad having not paid full price. So we'll just wait and see how this show plays out. I'm hoping that there will be some redeeming qualities overall, and I'm trying to reserve full judgment to the end. But being three episodes in, it's a little hard to overlook the glaring difference between this project and all Star Wars projects before it. Switching gears over to the HasLab, I think you're 100% on point Dean. If I was to back that, and actually had room to display it, it would be completely filled with vintage figures and not modern TVC. And your idea of the new six pack of figures with four re-released Kenner style and two new Kenner style figures would be a slam dunk hit in my book! But I think Hasbro would have released these Retro Acolyte figures regardless, as they've released figures for virtually all the new properties. I would love to see blue snaggletooth released in another set as well!! That one would indeed fly off the shelves. Thanks for covering this topic Dean. Hopefully you can overlook my sacrilege 🙏 and maybe I'll come to my senses before these actually release & cancel my pre-order. 🤣. Regardless, it's nice to have this conversation and hopefully we'll see some of the alternative ideas that you've put out here, implemented by Hasbro in the future. 👍

Agree with you 100% Dean. Love the retro collection for two reasons. First, even though I have a complete Kenner collection. I don't have them on card backs. So this is a cheap way of having them back on display, and they fit in so well with my collection. The second reason is, I do like it when they do them for other TV shows, like the Mandalorian. You get just 6 to 8 figure in the wave. So this way you just get main characters. Saying that though, I do have to be sold on the show/film. If not, I will avoid the set such as with the Acolyte. From feedback, I am seeing on the retro collectors Facebook group. They are not very popular at all, and fans are asking the same question. Why are we not getting more original Kenner figures ? . I was surprise like you about the Clone / Sith box set. I am sure they could have done a set for each film. Still I have it on pre-order anyway.

What makes me laugh is they revealed the cantina haslab with exclusive bartender and tonnika sisters. These characters keep topping fan polls. But they lock them behind a huge paywall. The they use money to produce an acolyte figure series. I dont think its fair to criticise acolyte about fire in space tho, even tho i dont like the show. After all, we have sound in space, and also fire in the OT in space when some tie fighters are exploding. I just like my criticism to be consistent

I would note that 4 of the 6 figures use cloth parts for an individual cost of $10 yet when Hasbro puts any soft goods on a Gi Joe 6" the automatically use that as an excuse to bump the price up to $35 & start whining about their Budget (again) so they found the budget to make these all new figures didn't they & include soft good for $10 each. So yeah price wise it ins't that terrible it just depends on what you compare it too. Star Action Figures claim they bullied Hasbro into lowering the price on these sorts of figure to sub £10 sterling in the UK and it did seems to increase sale dramatically. So £10 / $10 is an important psychological barrier it seems. I am going to NOPE THE HELL OUT if Hasbro tries to charge $35 for a standard figure though, I'll go throw my money at Chinese companies instead & wait for a sale - just like they trained the Transformers fandom into doing already with that product line.

I hate the 6 packs too. I’d love the cantina wave, and assumed that was probably coming as wave 2 (which we are many years beyond), but as someone who has the 4 aliens and a Stan solo blue snaggletooth, I’d rather have them released single carded so I could pick out the new ones. The only saving grace of the 6 pack is it’s only one pill to swallow, getting it out of the way. Unfortunately I am a retro completionist, but as the acolyte set is coming out before my birthday, I’m hoping someone will buy me it.

Making yet another Retro wave based on a Disney+ show was a bad business decision, in a long line of bad business decisions for the Retro line. Every Retro wave based on the Original Trilogy has sold out immediately at retail. Every Retro wave based on a Disney+ show has had several figures that had to be sold at clearance prices or sent to discount stores. The Obi-Wan Kenobi Retro line wound up having to clearance every figure in the line except for Darth Vader. There are enough unmade figures from the original Kenner line to last Hasbro for years, and they'll stretch even longer if the waves are padded out with unmade characters like Dr. Evazan. As for whether or not I'll buy figures from The Acolyte, yes. When they go on clearance, I'll buy them to make custom figures. That's all they're good for.

With the Haslab 'Cantina' currently available to back you would think that this was the perfect opportunity for Hasbro to release a boxed set of retro figures based on the Cantina aliens of the original Kenner line i.e Greedo Snaggletooth (both blue and red versions) Hammerhead Walrus Man and an all new exclusive tooling of Dr Evasan (just like the Mon Mothma in the ROTJ retro set) Hasbro would have sold thousands and thousands of this set. Instead they produce 'retro' figures of characters who just made their debut in a show that hasn't even completely aired - yet let alone divebombed in the ratings was a total waste of time effort and money, because these figs will peg warm all the day long. Come on Hasbro lets see more of the original 96 Kenner line reproduced in Retro.

I like the retro collection cause at its core it’s pretty much a continuation of the line given the fact mon Mothma and grand moff tarkin have gotten figures. I am upset however since we don’t even have snow trooper or cool ones like rebel fleet trooper. What a sick joke.

Ive said it once and I'll probably say it 1000 more times...why can't they do both? Old and new. Im not going to start collecting a whole new figure line. Vintage kenner is all I do. I like that I can get new figures/characters that fit in with my old figures. These types of figures are for people like me. Plus theres a shit ton of vintage figures out there. Most aren't even that expensive and are made of a highly quality than these retro collection offerings. If not for these types of figures I wouldnt spend a penny on their products...besides vintage kenner ive moved on to Hot Toys and statues. Just my 2 cents.

I am one of those suckers but the Acolyte is terrible in every way, I have ordered them because I don't want a hole in my collection. This set was probably conceived the same time the show was so they probably thought the show was going to be fantastic and everyone would want them. I would love a Cantina set but with all new figures as well as a set of the old. Hasbro could rerelease the old Cantina, I would buy that.

Modern Star Wars hates making figures of any Alien/Droid characters and just ones of Jedi's and Regular humans characters so like DR Who Figure line been like for years. So many great creatures/Aliens from the last few movies have nothing yet some only thing they have is a Funko Pop bobble head of them which isnt movie acurate stlye either

Something odd is definitely going on at Hasbro, here in the UK i am still unable to obtain the '6x fig - Return of the Jedi Multipack' it has never been restocked (To my knowledge) since July 2023 after the first batch sold out. I saw it was obtainable in the USA for months and months but the UK never got allocated anymore stock, yet the 'A New Hope Multipack' has been restocked multiple times. I am wondering if there was backlash from the vintage collectors over it including YakFace and they are appeasing them but not making anymore.

An unpopular opinion here... I can't be too bothered they're making ACOLYTE figures. They've made Retro Collection figures for each new Disney+ show, and they likely planned an ACOLYTE line like all the others way in advance. It isn't exactly their fault the series isn't well received by fans - It's just part of the marketing machine. I actually like your Blue Snaggletooth idea too.

The og vintage figure have an appeal to them despite their crudeness. The new retro style takes on new characters all look terrible. Even if i liked the new stuff which i dont, i would not buy the new retro figures because theyre awful craftmanship

I'm sure some completists will buy them.. as they are 'addicted'. Those who are looking for someone to fill out a crowd might buy them on sale though. The show has the occasional droid and Alien that is at least somewhat interesting, so if they get to the point of doing those, they might not be a complete Rose Tico. Master Sol is also somewhat liked so his figure might have a small chance with some people. I think anyone who pre-orders these is every bit as foolish as those who pre-ordered Indian Jone 6" figures though.. as like that entire line these are going on heavy clearance. As for why they make them.. they are kinda told what they have to make to some extent, Hasbro did wiggle out of that a bit though after Disney made them make toys of things that didn't exist in the media. Hasbro is basically hoping the very small core of completist will prop this up, the "Modern Audiences" won't be buying these toys though as they barely buy anything that isn't a Funko Pop or the occasional plush from all reports I've seen. Will I be buying any of them at any price.. likely not.. unless they were at some point stupidly cheap and I wanted one for the soft goods or accessory alone.

I only at 1:07 in the video... And I have my first Major complaint about what Hasbro are doing AGAIN!!! It is called the Retro Collection.... But teh only thing Retro about it is that teh figures have 5POA (5 points of Articulation) - For Vintage Collectors, the Photorealistic Face Sculpts look totally out of place alongside any Kenner Collection! I saw this when they did the Mandalorian Retro Collection... And it bugged me then - It bugs me now!!! I am not even a collector... But I can well imagine the frustration Collectors will have when these things look so out of whack!!! A Retro Collection is not just about 5POA, Its about the entire Aesthetic!!! They should look like they could have been released back in 1978-1985!!!! EDIT: Not seen The Acolyte... Just had no interest since the Disney Sequels... I enjoyed Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett, but was not obsessed as many were... (The Book of Boba Fett did the WORST thing possible trying to make Boba a Hero... Jesus, He should be an Anti-Hero... He does things Heroic but is still a goddamn villain in it for himself!) Not defending Hasbro's choices...but I wonder if Disney twisted their corporate arm about making this set. As for the show, and I haven't watched it nor will I, let's just say we all know Disney's quality control has gone downhill for the last few years. Hasbro I think needs to do what Stan solo is doing...make figures that weren't made...the sets for EPs 1,2, & 3 actually look cool. But...I can see some people buying this Acolyte set to populate their dioramas with some extra characters. As a kid I'd probably want some more Jedi to play with. But that's just me. Part of me feels like Hasbro knows Acolyte figures aren’t gonna sell very well but their overlords at Disney are shoving their woke garbage down everyone’s throats. Hasbro made more money selling OT, PT figures than new media with the exception of The Mandalorian. Yet PT figures are heavily lacking despite the demand for them but Disney has openly stated they want to steer away from George Lucas Star Wars. They rely on the Nostalgia of OT at times especially since most OT fans have deep pockets to pay for that nostalgia they had as kids. Though they heavily push their new media especially the Acolyte now being its their Star Wars Baby. Hasbro sure had its woke moments but when it comes to Star Wars they answer to Disney and they’ve doubled down on their woke agenda garbage.
