God, this is nostalgic! I missed seeing this episode, it's been so long and after destroying the original tape containing this episode along with a few others I once had, it's great to see it again.....

I remember this show, but had forgotten until something reminded me recently. One thing I must say is very interesting and pleasant is that even though this is an older cartoon it doesn't use negative racial stereotypes like many older cartoons do. The Mouse and his family are presented rather respectively especially compared to other cartoons of the time period and earlier. Terrytunes characters in general have been mostly forgotten with Mighty Mouse being probably the only one most people remember. I recently read that this character was created in part by a man who was born in Japan which may account for why it is more respectful.

Yes, his name was Bob Kuwahara. Here's something interesting you may not have known, this cartoon was submitted to the Oscars, make no mistake, it wasn't nominated, it just submitted for the chance to be nominated, still, it shows they must've been very happy with how this one turned out.

It was the first American cartoon about Japanese people and given the time it was shocking. A bit tacky now, but shocking then.

@@Mxyzptlksac My Ji chan and I used to watch this together. He would always ask me what it was coming on, so we could watch, it just came on randomly with other Terry Toon cartoons, so it was just a gamble when it would come on.

This appears to be the first episode, Hashimoto-San, aired in 1959. Fourteen Hashimoto-San cartoons were produced between 1959 and 1963. During the mid-1960s Hashimoto had his own board game, and also appeared in a handful of comic books published by Gold Key Comics; always with other Terrytoon characters like Deputy Dawg or Hector Heathcote. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashimoto-san

Is there any way we can recover the whole series of Hashimoto cartoons? I think they should be preserved so they can be enjoyed by future generations.

Oh I couldn't remember how to find them all without a lot thinking, but I'm pretty sure all but a handful can be found on KZbin, mostly ones uploaded on their own, and a couple that are apart of some TerryToons VHS tapes that a guy ripped and put on his channel. You can find almost all of them, but ya gotta do a little digging to do it. I hope it'll get an official DVD release someday, but lets be honest, if TerryToons started getting DVDs this series probably wouldn't get anything for a while, since Hashimoto isn't one of their more famous characters.

Wish it was from 1958, because 8 is special and doesn't suit in 1959, because of the Japanese number ku also mean death and in Japan they censored the number 9 from elevator floor numbers from bad luck. I'm glad the Japanese came in the number year in mainland US 1880 having two number 8, also the number 8 look like a person, because it looks like a head and a round body as a snowman, this should been uploaded in 2018.
