HasLab GI Joe Classified Series Dragonfly Delay

I'm bummed about the delay of the HasbLab GI Joe Dragonfly like the other backers, but it reiterates the problems with paying upfront for these massive projects.
I also have a few ideas on how Hasbro could offer a make-good for backers upset about this delay especially as the next GI Joe HasLab is imminent.

Agreed. A 6 month delay is pretty significant. There should be some compensation in the form of a voucher or something similar to make good for such a long delay. It's definitely not gonna feel good when the next GI Joe Haslab project is revealed and we still don't have the one from last year in our hands.

They really need to give something extra for something out of our control. They need to get this right and have a contingency plan for things that happen like this. A sign of good will is adding an unreleased figure for free with your order or giving you a voucher for $50-$60 worth towards free product. Make it good Hasbro.

Just two weeks ago they gave an update and everything was Go, none of this nonsense. So were they lying then? Why would there be a faulty product anyway, they certainly got enough time and money to do this up right. No excuses!

Perhaps Hasbro should present a Haslab every other year (2 years inbetween). Time for Hasbro to take the Preorders, manufacture the item(s) and ship them before the next Haslab starts. Only do one Haslab per series (Vintage Series, Black Series, Calssified, Legends, Ghostbusters, etc) per two year cycle.

This is bad news Jeff. Hasbro is a multi-billion dollar toy company. These sorts of delays (and the method to which Hasbro communicates) are really unacceptable. I have never been a fan of the Haslab concept, as I feel that Hasbro doesn't need our money to make these things happen. There is no risk to crowd-funding for Hasbro. There should be no risk to its backers too.

Diagnostik80 was talking about this and made a good point. They often over compensate on the release dates. Even though they said December, it could come out in Sept, Oct or Nov ahead of time. Also, Lenny had said in a recent interview that ot is hard to comment on figures that are current because he had long since worked on that figure over a year ago. He said they are over a year ahead of schedule. Which suggests it can take a year or more for a figure to be produced, manufactured and then released. The figures or vehicles we are seeing have been in the pipeline for a long time and we didn't see that. For Haslabs we are seeing it from point 0 to its end.

I woke up to this email this AM and am really disgusted. Hasbro is really risking future Haslab backing with whatever issue this is. One year to manufacture, with a six month delay is a HUGE problem. I understand if the shipping container being lost at sea or whatnot, but this is unacceptable. I currently only have the hiss tank and the dragonfly is my second haslab. I can't imagine being a haslab collector for GI Joe, Star Wars, Marvel, and Transformers and having anywhere from $1,000 to over $2,000 tied up for a year or more and then going into a second haslab and doubling your purchases with no product in hand.

I agree with you on some sort of compensation. I have to caution that HASBRO WOULD HAVE MONEY ON TWO FUNDED PROJECTS FOR FIVE MONTHS WITH NO PRODUCT TO SHOW. As I said on another channel, Does it sound silly to ask that before a project launch is requested to be funded that the earlier project be sent out first? It’s like a perfect storm just waiting to happen. Maybe, just maybe, after the 2024 Haslab launch they should pause and do some serious soul searching about how the product is made and associated logistics. They’ve only been a company that made toys for how many years and still can’t seem to get it all right like Mattel. Seriously.

I don’t care that it’s delayed, it’s paid for, it’s coming. We have new reveals, SDCC, Wolverine deadpoo movie coming out. We have a lot of other things to keep us occupied while we wait for a product to be correct, complete and at the highest quality. You have to ask your self do you want it fast or do you want it done right? The real news is when do we get to back the rattler? I’m not going to complain or get frustrated because my toy didn’t come when I wanted it to. We need to put on our big boy pants, relax it’s coming.

If they don't charge you up front, anyone can preorder even if they don't intend to actually buy. In that case, Hasbro has a huge amount of an expensive specialty project they have to produce with no guarantee that everyone is going to actually pay up in the end. This way, a Haslab simply won't happen as the risk is too high for the company. That's why crowdfunding needs payment up front. Personally, I don't mind the delay, last year the HISS came in December as well in the end. And with the biggest toy company, I don't see any risk, because they are guaranteed to deliver, even with a delay.

Hasbro should require a nonrefundable 50% deposit, then the remainder of payment before shipping. Doing so puts both sides on the hook, not just the customer. When Hasbro makes these Haslabs, they dont just make the exact amount that was backed, they have to produce at least 10% more than what was backed to make up for broken/missing parts or lost shipments.

Since I'm paying for it anyway, might as well pay up front, personally I prefer it. And it guarantees Hasbro won't cut corners with only half the budget available. I mean, look at the HISS, it's such a premium product, which got delayed to December as well, but quality was great. I actually expected a similar delay for the Dragonfly and doubted we would have delivery by Summer. Let them take their time, I wouldn't want to get it a few months earlier but with quality issues. I already have a lot of other Classified releases to keep me occupied in the meantime!

It goes to show that with a new tooling with many parts, a longer production lead time is not uncommon due to tooling issues. Tooling issues IS the main issue in any new tooling. The SkyStryker wasn’t a new tooling, for most parts, so that did not experience any delays. That’s just a humble opinion from a manufacturing standpoint.

We will always endeavour to put out products that will stimulate the collecting community and provide what most people want. Those exclusives were never litmus tested to know if they will work on a larger scale production, hence chosen as event exclusives.

All I can say is production delays on a new tooling normally stems from the tooling itself having a variety of parts that needs to all come together and fit nicely I don’t see how production capacity will be the cause of delay as Hasbro is big enough to have any factory “make way” from whatever they have on the assembly line to fit it the production of Hasbro. But all these is just surmise.

Another reason they shouldn't be Haslab projects anymore. They were supposed to be for risky projects, but the Classified vehicles have proven they aren't a risk anymore. A multi-billion dollar corporation does not need interest free loans from its customers, especially when they can't consistently deliver the product on time. You do know that Saudi Arabia didn't renew the Petrodollar. Plastic comes from oil. The US dollar is no longer backed by this resource. The money paid for the Dragonfly no longer carries the same weight as it use to. Hasbro either needs to lower the quality of the plastic used, or ask its customers to cover the new cost.

Pay with paypal credit dont have to pay off for 6 months no interest + all the rest of figures I buy rest of year I pay 6 months after I get them to pay which is nice. I use paypal credit for figs only so have plently of room with the amount of figures Classified releases every year able to retain a $500 min owed at any one time with no interest so techinally able to work it so not really playing for haslabs until released

That's not how business works. Those funds go towards production costs which are pretty significant. Not making excuses for Hasbro but this whole notion that companies leave revenue to sit still in some account to accumulate interest is just completely wrong.

If you need to gauge demand you take non-refundable or refundable with penalty down payments. Afterwards you go into production. Once the item is ready to ship you charge the outstanding balance to the customer. If they cannot collect 100% of pre-orders, obviously that is already calculated into the equation against the true cost of production and potential profit margines. With such a large window of time they could produce the item in batches all the while banking interest on money they’ve already collected. Let’s be honest, they are not producing cars. The design has already been done, molds have already been created. All they need to do is go into production once the customer pays. Again O risk on their end!!!

@@kickflip800 Well I've worked on this side of the equation and moving straight to production after generating a prototype is not done as simply as pushing a button. There's a lot of leg work involved with getting production lines ready and materials in place for a large production run. The molds they do have at this stage are just for prototypes not mass scale. They don't invest into mass scale production preparation until the project is funded. There's a reason that they are a billion dollar company and its because they minimize their risks, including utilizing the crowd fund model.

Dude people are so babyish about these haslab projects and complain about everything they can the whole step of the way and if something with it doesn’t go exactly as planned they throw a giant fit and act like it’s the end of the world 🙄 it’s so Annoying now all we’re going to hear for the next week is everyone complaining about how the dragon fly is delayed for 2 months 😭 by the way the last day of summer is SEPTEMBER 22nd

Now that I listen to more of your rant. I believe they should allow backers to choose how much they want to put on as a down payment. And when it's finally released they will not ship it until you paid the remaining balance. And you have two weeks to pay it. If you don't pay it it will go on the shelf and they will sell it to somebody else. You will not get a refund because the money is used to produce the item. So you have to be committed. 😂😂😂
