The PROBLEM Bobby, is that you are comparing it to $500 - $600+ Statues. They DO NOT Transform and the Model/Statue is NOT being asked to do a multiple of things. It is only meant to do one job and one job only, take you money, sit there & look pretty. Which it should for that insanity of a price point for something that doesn't move or transform. Also, i realize it's not FaaaAaaaNs TooooooOoooooys and so it falls short in that regard as well. Could they have done better? I absolutely agree, and think it leaves the door open for a 3rd party to come in and "Fix" some of the issues. Such as removing all the Planet pieces, then using them to form the planet, now you have the BEST of both worlds. Or 3P could make a better Galvatron/Rodimus, an Original Ark and a Nemesis, the Quintesson's ship, Galvatron's ship, the planet being destroyed at the beginning of the movie, very small scale Dinobots for their attack, a 2nd Head for the stand to "float" in space, a Starscream to name just a few. Then one should compare it to the cost of MP44 ($450) or a FT10 ($300 4yrs ago) and less than 1/3 the size, or Maketoys Pandinus ($500 5yrs ago). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Bobby, but price point plays a BIG part in a fair comparison. - You can always get artsy with the airbrush. I speak paint in seven different palettes. They also could have done a "PERFECT" Edition that takes into account your opinions on it's short comings, but I literally shudder to think of the Staggering Costs involved........ $750?.... $1000??? You do you, you WIN!

Hasbro had all this time and money into R&D, and they couldn't come up with a better way to keep the arm held up under it's own weight? 3P combiners of a similar size don't have such basic issues like this. Unipringles. Joking aside, nothing but respect for this Unicron. I didn't buy it because I just could not justify the price and there's too much going on with this design. That's just me. The Not-Zeta I find more appealing aesthetically overall despite being smaller. I prefer it (don't have it tho). But this one turned out pretty solid. Impressed with how good you reviewed it because this thing is not easy to film and show what's going on. Well done!

Today's repeated comment: Bobby that's one of the Autobot shuttles from the '86 movie. Would have made sense if Galvatron's ship was included, since Unicron pooped it out it the movie.

The kibble is removable. The KZbin channel "Prime Vs Prime" has a great tutorial on how to do it. All you need is a screwdriver and 5 minutes :)

@@DanielGreen07 Because nobody has. The Zeta planet mode is way worse and the engineering is a nightmare. The Haslab has a great planet mode but ends up with some kibble in the bot mode. There's yet to be a Unicron figure that's managed to have a good planet mode without some kibble in bot mode.

Heard the cockroach back pack kibble can be removed in robot mode during transformation. It can be kept off. So Grimlock can kick b---. It should of been 249.99. Not 600.00.

Hmmmm.....I see a $350 Unicron wearing what appears to be a Neckbrace or a Backpack...and was that a scalping a recommendation around the 30 minute mark???? Due to how critical you are of other mainline figures, I feel your being pretty lenient with this one...For the price, the paint should be perfect, it should be kibble free, and the articulation should be phenomenal..and WTF are those tiny little figures and Ark? I just got mine today, the transformation had to be one of the worst experience I had collecting! I did not like to manhandle the thing since it felt quiet fragile, it will stay on Robot mode! I am not regreting it but I had the feeling "it could have been better"

I chose the 01-Studio Cell Unicron because I believe it to be a better TF action figure (even though I never had the Haslab in hand) but I can see why it wouldn't fit your display as well as this one does so I understand why you went with it and if I was in your shoes I would have done the same. I agree that this Unicron is more in line with those new War for Cybertron Hasbro TF action figures and I also agree that for the price point it should be perfect. Great video Bobby. But I think what it drives home for the most is, that it just makes me kind of relieved it's a pretty simple transformation? Imagine having to do something on the level of Zeta with a thing this size, it'd be a nightmare. Backpack IS unsightly, but at least you can remove that fairly easily?

Have you seen where you can remove the "Planet" mode so you can remove all of the kibble. I am guessing you are not going to display it in Planet mode...ever? Since you said you could remove the rubber spikes on the sides...I have also heard that you can make a Planet from the shell and have both...just need some extra rings...Good review. Just wait for those Upgrade Kits I'm sure will be coming...like light up eyes...and hopefully light up rings.....BTW what # is yours in the production? People were sharing it from their box...

4:25 you said the eyes are the worst option they could have done, it isn't light piping. Light piping probably looks the same in the eyes, and at the same time would add a translucent piece on the back of the head.

Absolutely correct. It's not the Ark, it's an Autobot shuttle from the movie. I think Bobby doesn't remember the movie well enough. Now I will say that a Quinteson ship and a Junkion ship would have been great additions. There's clearly room for mor on that stand. Maybe they're planning on doing more down the road.

I'll be curious to see if you feel the same way about this figure in a few years. So many of your comments make it sound mediocre. Things like "fair", "enough to get by", and "kind of do a good job" make me wince. I think a lot of your point of view comes for love of the size and nostalgia. Not that there's anything wrong with liking it for those reasons, but I question if you would be satisfied with this product at this price with all the flaws you stated if it were an unknown or totally new character to you.

@@GXDoubleX I totally get where you are coming from. He definitely holds different figures to different standards, and I think that's a good thing, personally. For example, it's not fair to hold a 20 dollar figure to the standards of a 200 dollar figure, but the 20 dollar figure can still be lacking at certain standards that should be expected of the 20 dollar figure. And that's what I was thinking of. Likely due to my own interpretation, but not only what he said, but how he said it. It nearly sounded like he was trying to convince himself. He flat out says at one point that some of these things shouldn't be an issue, yet he is pleased with his purchase. So, yeah, curious how this will hold up over the years.

I'm happy that you are KINDA happy with your purchase Bobby. I can't see myself with this THING. Too many Short Cuts or should we say Cost Cutting. 1. Paint, Lack there of. 2. Hardware, WTF. 3. Kibble, and Lastly Price...These are All the things that Make or Brake a Piece. I honestly think you and I would be happier if 3Zero or FLToys made this as a Non-transferable figure but more Accurate to the Movie Botmode. Planet mode is Not Needed. Get rid if the spike strips, yank the panels off the kankles. It would look awesome, back pack not withstanding. But the Zeta vs Haslab. Zeta is a G1 figure, Haslab is not a G1 figure. Personally, I love my Zeta, it could be bigger. This... Trim the mentioned above. I'd buy it no question.

I think there are good arguments to be mode on both side on whether or not this Unicron is worth the $600+ price of admission. The bottom line is if you're happy with it for the price you've paid, then it's worth it. As someone who have purchased a few toys in the $500-$600 range in the last year or so (Pose+ Baikanfu, DX SOC Voltes V, completed XTB Menasor), I will say that I'm extremely happy that I decided to back this Unicron late in the process.

I think your review is right on. My Unicron just arrived today and I am looking forward to getting him displayed in robot mode. I really agree with your price statement. I think it should have been a little less. Perhaps closer to $450 or $500 instead of closer to $600. With price in mind, they should have included better extras, as this was basically a kickstarter campaign. Even to give us a couple of regular size (or close to it) figures of Hot Rod & Galvatron would have been better. I will not display those other "bonus" items, as they look cheap and bring down the look and feel of Unicron. You showing Unicron holding a regular figure in your size comparison is a much better way to do it. In comparison to the Studio Cell Unicron, that one does look cleaner / a little more detailed, but is also much smaller and doesn't have the impact this one does (even in planet mode). If anything, I wish this figure was taller - as he is just a little bigger than the other Titan Class figures. Overall, I think I will be very happy with this and am glad Hasbro got it done. Thank you for your review. I am going to take your advice during the transformation process this week.

Mine is en route and should arrive later today... So the question for me, is will this release take the place of my Studio Cell. I would have preferred to keep it in planet mode, but I don't have 33" of vertical clearance. I'm at 26" where I planned to display him, which means he would have to be in Robot mode. And, for me I'm just not sure the Robot mode aesthetics go with my G1 collection as well as I would like it to... We'll have to just wait and see for now.

I think all of his negatives about him are 100% valid, which I don't say a lot of times. the one thing I will say is if the kibble really bothers people, I noticed this review showed that most of the panels are on mushroom pegs with good cut-off points. I don't know why people are upset with it. besides the Galvatron and the jaws, Hasbro literally showed us what we were getting, and they still bought it. I don't have one myself, because of college, but I would definitely pick one up if they did a second rum in say 5 years. Also, ps, the ship is the one from the movie, it's not the ark

I just cant get behind this one....the head sculpt is ugly to me, the legs look to short and the kibble is god awful. The planet ring, where the sculpt is ok, is to thick and to much hanging off. There's paint where their really doesn't need to be and no paint where there should be. Kudos to those who have this and are happy with it, I'm going with Studio Cell.

The size is impressive, but for the price, it’s gotta be more than that imo. The amount of kibble on this figure is ridiculous considering the price. If I do pick up a unicron, 01 studio cell is the one I’m going with. But I do understand that the size of this figure is a big part of why people will go with this, so if that is your reason, then you really got no other choice that’s even remotely close in terms of size. But for me, no matter how big they make it, it will most likely never be able to be in scale. In that sense, because scaling will never truly work for a unicron figure, I care more about the engineering and accuracy of the figure which studio cell offers better than haslab.

what is finny to me is with the rings its about as big as a beach ball but the main planet mode is soccer ball in size, but the size alone give this such presence he commands any shelf, IMO core cell is much nicer looking and the haslab gives the size unicron deserves
