Having video would not have hurt stills performance. Video is just a series of stills shot at 24 fps. However, not having video did hurt your sales. I didn’t purchase the X2D… because I learned it could not shoot video. So that’s at least one sale that Hasselblad lost due to this decision. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Thats not how video works on a stills camera. Also; yes, you are the only one.

It would have hurt the user experience. More ports, more menu items, more things to go wrong, more buttons and generally a more cluttered interface. That does have effect on user experience.

I’m glad there’s no video. I’ve been saying this for a long time, that it’s not fare to have to pay for video when you will never use it. I shot stills for a lot of years and never use the video features in my camera. I wish camera companies would give the buyers a choice.

Interesting. I think people would have used video if it was competitive. Also, I assumed they could keep the camera small without having to accomodate cooling solutions that video would require. Is this also why they stuck with the leaf shutter? The aesthetics ARE d@mn good, though.
@anthonyrock5039
@anthonyrock5039 Жыл бұрын
The lack of a shutter mechanism allows for thinner body and will prolong the body life of a camera as it moves that mechanism to the lenses which then have the shutter count affecting the lens instead. In this case, there is little to zero room for heat distribution or escape from this design. Without active cooling, the heat could eventually would damage the sensor and surrounding components.

I’m impressed that they can roll out an $8k+ camera that doesn’t have tracking or even continuous focus. But they have the new lens design, so there’s that.

Before X2D launch, Hasselblad Sweden asked me (as many other users) if I use video on my X1D (among other questions) and I said no, as I guess many other true users answered.

Do you have the 80 1.9? Curious as to how it behaves on the x2d vs the x1d/x1dii. I ordered the 90v as I prefer the FOV of 90 over 80 but if they take 20 years to bring out the new 90, I will sit in the 90 3.2 until the new 90 arrives.

I don't think there's any downside to having video capabilities, but better use of the 1TB of built-in memory. I have the X1D2, I shoot video with it sometimes

I hope the crop modes will be back. I have used 1x1 and especially the XPAN mode quite a lot, miss those in the new camera. Also hope the custom profiles can be chosen via the mode button in the future, and that you can see which custom profile you have active. Furthermore, a way to rename the custom profiles to something meaningfull for the specific user. That’s my wish list, hoping for early christmas, though I know I wont get any of this before my two months with the camera and hopefully the new 90mm in Nepal. I have ordered the lens, but there is no news about delivery. By the way my first impressions video is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/an2moIGAnNKZi9k

Crop modes. Better AF. Maybe face/eye. And if it is "easy" to port over, video in 4k....the reason no one used it in the X1 units is because it was not so great. Find out from fuji GFX users if they use video....when video sort of works well.

I used the video function twice out of the countless times I used my gfx100s. It is great but cumbersome and required my atomos ninja v to get the most out of it. I love video but I can get a dedicated video camera for the actual video I shoot like a Sony fx30 it xh2s if I really want a video cam hybrid.

Please allow me to inform Hasselblad representatives why a working commercial photographer would need video capabilities built into their $10,000.00 camera. Simply because a client will ask you to shoot video clips on the same shoot you are asked to shoot still images. Do I get asked to shoot video clips on every assignment? Of course not, but when I do get asked, I want that feature, It keeps me from having to drag along an additional camera. Honestly, for my $10,000.00, I'd like to be able to shoot short videos and more.

Lots of haters, but you don’t buy a Porsche for its ability to do everything mediocrely. Hasselblad is and always has been a premium product aimed at a select audience who want it for one simple thing: the ultimate image quality available. I commend their clarity of intention. They know their audience and quite frankly made the perfect camera for those who use the X system. This is an example or a company that doesn’t spend its time worrying about the competition, and instead focuses on their product line and user experience.

Wait 6 months before you buy. There is a good chance price will drop to $4,999.00, just like it dropped with X1D. BTW: Hasselblad is wrong with not including video feature. Today, it is unthinkable to buy a camera that doesn't offer video capability. Another weird decision by Hasselblad.

You think Arri are equally doomed for not including stills capability? Plenty of dedicated cinema cameras out there like the Sony Venice or various Black Magic cameras cant take photos. Nothing wrong with a photo camera manufacturer making a photo camera. There are other options for you.

@@tor2919 Årri is considered to be a professional film camera aimed at professional film makers.. X?D line is a prosumer camera aimed at hobbyists and retired crowd with fat pensions. Big difference. Medium Format doesn't make it "professional." Furthermore, Hasselblad doesn't protect price of its X?D line and allows distributors to drop its price according to demand and other market forces, like number of sales. You will never see this with ARRI, Blackmagic or flagship DSLR cameras of brands like Canon or Nikon. Era of Hasselblad being sign of accomplishment and professionalism is long gone. If Newton or Mapplethorpe were alive, they would probably shoot Fuji or Sony. Victor must be turning in grave.Thank you.

@@elmono3939 Aimed at hobbyists & retired crowds with fat pensions? Medium format is not professional ?Doesn't protect it's Priceline? and if Newton & Mapplethorpe were alive they'd be using Fuji or Sony and Victor will be rolling in his grave? Mate you're on a roll & haven't missed a beat, delete your comments cause you're embarrassing yourself. Clearly Hasselblad here has demonstrated that not every stills professional requires video capabilities including myself. Unfortunately in recent years companies such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic have forgotten about stills photographers and whenever they release a new camera their focus has been more on video capabilities. I think Hasselblad have made a bold move & decided to cater for professional photographers who are shooting Architecture, Products, Commercial etc. Good on Hasselblad for having the balls to do so and hopefully others will listen & follow, By the way, Newton & Mapplethorpe were legendary stills photographers & if they were both alive today my wild guess is they wouldn't be looking for a camera with video capabilities and Victor wouldn't consider it.

Video would have negatively impacted the photo user experience, making the design and functions more cluttered and complicated. Not all cameras have to be hybrid cameras. I wonder if the complainers in these comments make the same demands on Arri and Red that their cinema cameras should include stills capability?
