one pro/con you did not mention, the H1 battery shares with the HM-16-32 so when it is on the body, the button cell is not used, but this battery bank in the body; the con part is if the button cell is dead, and you do a body battery change, all the asa & film position data (frame currently on, and sequencing) is LOST, and the back/body does a 'wind_off' as it doesn't have this situational awareness to proceed, it 'thinks' a new film is in, and doing a 'setup' wind process, but it isn't, this also is the case if you change a magasine, for say B&W to colour, or to change ASA's, one other 'sting' to this is that this button cell is located INSIDE the magasine shell, aka accessed from the inside, so you MUST separate the insert from the shell to remove & replace it! so you have to accept and execute a 'wind_off' and lump the shots you get properly exposed, as you ARE protecting them, by the backing paper, and thus have safe access to this cell, so one TIP here, EVERY time you 'upload' film, CHECK this cell FIRST, BEFORE you 'close-up' and start the roll. {PS: the word 'upload' here is used in the anchent sense, ie: to insert an object, in this case a canister of the silver stuff, download, is hence to remove said object}.

As a guy who just stumbled down a money pit with an H2, thank you very much fo this video. So nice to find some honest perspective on the H system.

with some of the cons, this is where a Phase One XF shines, exposure averaging, Hyper focal setting on lens, power sharing between back and body, A/C coupling to the back/body to charge/use simultaneously, TOUCH SCREENS on both body and backs, multiple tethering/ connection options, use of universal cable/adaptors to connect backs to any MF/LF camera system, 100 or 150 MP backs,interchangeable viewfinders, live view and many others.

Thank you so much for information regarding this camera. I love all about the H1, only con must be the hard way to download the files. Ok Hunter! Have a nice day, and keep up the good work.

Contax 645 is sort of large 135-ish, light-weighted and feasible. I use H1 + 50-100mm. Sinar emotion 75LV fits on H1. H1 autofocus is accurate and reliable.

Hey Hunter just got the H1 I think the film back batteries died mid roll, and I don't think it rewound. do you know how to manually rewind the film? Im assuming the camera automatically rewinds when the film roll is done right? thanks!!
@Hunterphotographic4 жыл бұрын
William Livesay the battery in the film back really shouldn’t be involved in rewind. However, to force a rewind, look for the three buttons near where your right thumb lives on the grip. With the camera on, use a paper clip to depress the middle button.

Hunter Photographic you’re the man thank you so much! Last question I swear lol, I’m trying to figure out if the film back is faulty...when I first got it a few days ago off eBay the film magazine had a low battery sign and I couldn’t adjust the iso for some reason. So i took off the film back and it erased all the info on the screen. To adjust iso it’s done on the magazine using the O and up and down arrow on the magazine itself not the camera body right? Gonna try a new battery to see if that works but if it doesn’t do you have any other ideas?

Recently picked up an H4X just so I can use both film digital. I’m just not sure which digital back to go with. Preferably something closer to 645 size image area.
@Hunterphotographic2 жыл бұрын
Given that you have an H4X, I believe that means you can use third party digital backs. You might look into PhaseOne. Unfortunately my knowledge of digital backs is very thin.

Great review, !!! what do you recommend as a TTL flash bracket for the H system , that reliable ? Seems like the Metz 76 is not so good , batterie dies /tube blows , any suggestion ?Thanks

David - sorry, I have never used TTL with the H1. If I do use a light, I just use whatever lights I have in manual mode.

Great Video, do you mind sharing how to set up the back button auto focus?
@Hunterphotographic4 жыл бұрын
William Livesay I believe you just set the focus mode to manual and it should be set properly by default. To activate, just hit the button in the middle of the focus mode dial. Sorry, I don’t have the camera with me now to check.
@williamlivesay7384 жыл бұрын
Ok last question lol...is there a trick to setting the ISO on the film back? None of the buttons seem to be doing anything on the film back itself.
@Hunterphotographic4 жыл бұрын
Yes, for that you need a good battery in the film back itself. Then use the buttons on the top right of the film back to select ISO (using the O button) and then change the value (using up and down buttons). You might have to have film loaded to change the value.

Hey bro, did you got it from eBay, can trust it, with such much money, what's is the biggest photo print size, you got with this camera?
@Hunterphotographic7 жыл бұрын
I didn't get the camera from eBay. I bought it from another photographer I know. As for the largest print size, that will depend on the film you use and the scanner. With ISO 50 Pan F and a drummer scanner, you could produce a print the size of a wall. Just depends a little.

one Con nowadays (2019->) is as of that time, DJI now owns hasselblad, the Lunar, and all recent products are now made by them, disappointingly, they WERE a great company, the V system was brilliant, and the H and XCD systems are great too. one other con, is that for all systems, other than H and V, they are 6 x 4.5 sensor size, NOT the 6 x 6 of the H & V systems!, so there is a quality loss there.

Awesome review! What's your favorite whiskey cocktail that doesn't require liqueurs?
@Hunterphotographic7 жыл бұрын
That would have to be a Manhattan. It's deceptively simple, but so many people mess it up. It's also a good test of whether a bar knows what they're doing. 2 oz. bourbon, 1 oz. Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth, 2 heavy Angostura dashes bitters. Stir on ice and serve up in a coupe glass. I also like a good Old Fashioned.
@lifewithoutpanic7 жыл бұрын
Awesome! My favorite is Sazerac. I haven't made a manhattan before because I am a 3 trick pony: Sazerac, Old Fashioned, and Whiskey Sour. I will give the manhattan a go! Love your reviews! Super informative.
@Hunterphotographic7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. Definitely try a Manhattan if you like the Sazerac and Old Fashioned. The Whiskey Sour is definitely one of my all-time favorites, especially with a good foam on to and a little decoration with bitters.

I wanna get my hands on one of these before the influencers drive up the price like they did for contax, mamiya & Pentax lol
@andyvan56926 жыл бұрын
I think that shutter combo when you take the battery out, is because the metered prism probably has a "coupling arm" which must be at a specific point to take the prism off the mounting face of the finder frame, so they can be 'coupled' when you change a finder or lens like on a Nikon f film camera, and these settings are also probably what Hasselblad determines to be "safe" settings for what types of photography they envisage their target market is buying it for.

Hi. I bought h1 from adorama and all actuations except the lens is under 500 and lens I bought seperately has 5k actuations. Does this actuations can be reset? Im suspicious why it has so litle actuations more than 10 yeras old
@Hunterphotographic6 жыл бұрын
Sardor Oripov I do not believe the activations can reset by a camera owner. I think only a factory service technician can do that. Having a really low actuation count is common for medium format. Especially if the body was used with film. I think you probably got lucky.
@sardororipov13026 жыл бұрын
Hunter, thank you for such a quick response. Last question, as I am new to this system. Does film magazine need separate battery, because I see battery indicator on film magazine and it is almost empty?
@Hunterphotographic6 жыл бұрын
A battery in the film back is not absolutely necessary. Having a battery in the film back will allow you to change the ISO and other film back settings when the film back is not attached to the camera. I do recommend it, but it is not necessary.

Hunter Photographic Thank you so much for your quick reply. I have been looking to get me a nice film camera and it is a hard debate on Contax 645 vs Hasselblad :-/
@Hunterphotographic6 жыл бұрын
Yair Haim I own both and they both have their merits. The biggest difference between them is the shutter. The Contax has a focal plane shutter with max speed of 1/4000. The Hasselblads have a leaf shutter with max speed of 1/800. I personally prefer the Hassey.
@andrewthompson56096 жыл бұрын
My understanding is the H2 allows more control over the older Hasselblad digital backs and that they also dampened the mirror vibration a bit. Very minor changes.

Hey Reuben - If you look at the comments on my channel, you'll notice they are all pretty solid. Whether it be photographers seeking advice or just leaving a kind word. And I try to be very helpful, often times quickly replying. I'm not sure what your issue is this morning. If you don't like my videos, the easiest thing for you to do is go someplace else. Why waste the time leaving a nasty comment? I do like bourbon and rum. That's just my personality and I'm not changing it for you. In the same way, I don't care if you want to lead a dry life. If it helps, this is the only video of mine that starts with a fine glass of rum. Alright, I'm off to have some fun. Enjoy your Sunday!
