This 44-year-old patient from Whitefish, Montana came to Hasson & Wong hoping to restore density to his hairline, frontal zone and crown. His hair began to thin noticeably in his early 20’s, and over the next 20 years he steadily progressed to a Stage VI on the Norwood Hair Loss Scale - characterized by extensive loss in both the frontal region and crown (forming the classic ‘horseshoe’ pattern). This patient’s hair loss is likely hereditary, as both his father and maternal grandfather displayed similar hair loss patterns. The patient had decided against the use of preventative medication such as Finasteride and Minoxidil, as he was concerned about the potential for adverse side effects.Since the patient is based in the USA, he decided to submit an online consultation to Hasson & Wong rather than travel to the clinic in person. Upon review of his case, Dr. Hasson determined that he was a good candidate for a large FUT procedure (4000-5000+ grafts). Due to the extent of his hair loss, FUT was recommended as the method of choice, as his total donor reserves would be larger with FUT than with FUE.The majority of the grafts harvested to his surgery would be allocated to the hairline, frontal zone and mid-scalp in order to maximize the cosmetic benefit of the procedure. The remaining grafts would be transplanted into the crown with the aim of achieving light to medium coverage in the region. Additional coverage of the crown could be achieved by means of a second procedure.
