Love the video editing. Great job! Why no liquid cooling though?
@MilesShebar
@MilesShebar 10 жыл бұрын
Good question - I didn't go the liquid cooling route mainly because of stability. I've read horror stories on amazon about how just a small leak can mess up your whole system, and after finding out that air can provide very similar results I went with that.

Miles Shebar With a closed loop system, it will never leak. And if by some terrible mishap it does, most manufacturers cover the damage.

Miles Shebar I saw this video and Im very interested in doing the same type build for a new editing station which I use Adobe Creative Suite and the internet pretty much the entire time. Have you had any problems with it since you have built it or will it always run pretty smoothly and be a workhorse? My brother in law works with computers for a living so I do have some sort of tech support if needed.
@MilesShebar
@MilesShebar 10 жыл бұрын
Michael Gordon Hey, I've had no problems on this! It's being used right now as a professional editing rig with Avid but it runs the Creative Suite very well. As long as you have your brother in law and the internet and choose recommended parts you should be totally fine. Sorry for the long time to respond!

Hey, Im going to be building a computer almost exactly like this one and i have a question, what boot flags did you use? Or did you use any? Also really nice video, Helped me a lot. :D
@MilesShebar
@MilesShebar 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Nicolas, this build is suuuuuuper super supported with the Tonymac tools. As a result you don't really need any boot flags. I always boot with -v a couple times after the install just to check that everything's working but that's pretty much it.

Hi sorry I'm so late but I'm thinking about building a hackintosh for my audio production & I was trying to see do you think a 1tb evo ssd would work stealthy? Also did your motherboard work right out the box or do you suggest I go with another? Your advice would be greatly appreciated thanks for the video man it rlly gave me an idea of which way I would like to go

How much does it cost to build a custom MAC like this? Could you please give me more detail about this ? I need to buy one for my work. thx
@MilesShebar
@MilesShebar 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Phong- totally depends on the quality of the parts but this (a very high end rig) cost about $1800). You can easily build a lower spec one for as low as 300-400. Totally depends.

How quiet is it? As quiet as an MBP? Can you use any processor cooling fan you wish?
@MilesShebar
@MilesShebar 10 жыл бұрын
I used the HAF 912, and any fan that will fit an 1155 CPU works! It's extremely quiet - you have to press your ear against it to hear it.

I'm currently purchasing parts. My motherboard will be the Gigabyte z87 (Orange one) , thermaltake water-cooled system, I7 Haswell... I can't make up my mind on the power supply. The common blackintosh guide says to buy the thermaltake tr 700w 80 plus power supply. I can't find this one anywhere. Does it really matter? Given the parts I've already ordered? Will one brand not fit right with what I'm already getting?
@MilesShebar
@MilesShebar 10 жыл бұрын
Won't matter at all. Corsair PSUs have always worked for me but it really doesn't matter. Just be sure your PSU is from a good reputable company so that it doesn't burst into flame!

Arturo Chavez Ok Arturo! This is a dsdt-free board, Audio was the ALC898, Graphics are native with the GPU, networking we used the Intel ethernet codec, and I didn't have to change anything in System (use the default SMBios of MacPro3,1) or Misc. Glad you like my stuff and good luck!

Hey dude - what does the mobo error code say? Have you posted on the Tonymac forums? Sounds like it might be a power issue. Check that all power cables (24-pin and cpu 8-pin) are plugged into the mobo.

Does bootcamp work?
@MilesShebar
@MilesShebar 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Wayne- if you're talking about dual boot with Windows then all you need to do is partition your main drive and throw Windows on the other end, or if you're using 2 HDDs, you can just plug them both into the board and set priorities in the BIOS - no bootcamp needed!
@WayneVaughan
@WayneVaughan 10 жыл бұрын
I run Windows in VMware Fusion. I'm considering a Hackintosh, but I'm worried about being able to reliably run Windows and OSX at the same time. I'm also concerned about overall stability. Any input from you would be appreciated.
@MilesShebar
@MilesShebar 10 жыл бұрын
Wayne Vaughan I run a dual boot system at home (see my Ivy Bridge videos) where I have two boot drives, one with OSX and one with Windows, and I find those to be a lot easier than partition setups. I'd advise you buy a separate HDD for each OS, and use Tonymac's Chimera bootloader to choose between them (this means setting the Hackintosh HDD as first priority in the BIOS. Let me know if you need any more help!
