Love these hats! I’ve made a bunch of them for me family and friends. I have a small head. My suggestion would be to make the band a bit shorter.

Thanks Carolyn! This style was initially designed to cover hair loss. I will revisit this pattern this year and offer a cutting line for a shallower fit!

I bought the pattern yesterday. Looking forward to making these for my daughters as gifts. My only issue is my printer. It took me so long to finally get the right size. It just wouldn't print it right. I had to set it on my printer instead.
@madcaphats Жыл бұрын
Every printer is different it seems but the settings need to be checked so your output prints our files at 100 percent size and not "fit to page" as is a common setting. Glad you figured it out! We have to set up our patterns so they will print on letter size paper (North America) and A4 paper (the rest of the world) and of course those paper sizes are different!!

I wonder how this hat would look in denim?
@madcaphats Жыл бұрын
I tried it in a wool once..it lacked the body that the brushed surface of fleece gives it. It seemed a bit flat. I will try again though in the new year with denim! Let me know if you give it a try. Tori

Would be cool to make one for summer too! Wonder what material could be used?

Let me know how it goes! I tried with fabric and was not happy with the result. I would def tinker with the pattern a bit.

Do you secure the pin through both brim and hat or just pin to the brim area and flip up? I love the videos. I've made this hat, the Winter Toque, and beginning to make a headband. Great results! Thank you! Sewing projects to feel really good about when finished!

Hi Lisa! I pin through the brim and hat. I am so glad you are making good use of the videos!!! Keep sewing! Tori

Can you do this with directional print on top and solid on lining?
@madcaphats Жыл бұрын
Yes you can Elizabeth. Have fun coming up with the design! It is fun to learn putting colors and designs together by actually doing that. It is a process with lots of rewards when you feel it turned out great!! Tori

What interfacing could I use instead of the SF 785 as cannot get here in UK?
@madcaphats2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen ... A medium weight non woven sew in interfacing will work well. The brim may turn out a bit crispier the heavier the interfacing. A lightweight non woven is too light. Good luck! Tori

What are dimensions for the different sizes?
@madcaphats Жыл бұрын
Hi Suzanne ... there is an inch difference or 2.5 cm difference between hats drafted for a small head (21.5" or 55cm) to Medium which is the free download (22.5" or 57.5 cm) and from Medium to Large (23.5" or 60 cm.). The pattern was created to fit those sizes with a relaxed fit so the length of the band is not the same as the head size but larger. So, the secret is for you to measure your own head ... our video about that will help show you what I mean by that and you can watch it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXSzdKOCj5yfpNk ... and determine what percentage difference is your head from the 22.5" or 57.5 cm average free pattern. Larger? Say you come up with 24 inches. Your formula is 24 divided by 22.5 which equals 1.066. So you need to increase all the pattern pieces by 1.066 which you can do by taking the downloaded copy to a copying store and asking them to make you a copy that is larger by that much. I hope that helps! This is the cliff notes of how to grade up. If down then you go the opposite ... 21.5 divided by 22.5 which equals .9555 so you need to make a copy that is .9555 of the original.

I made this hat today, it came out so small, I am a medium on your pattern chart. It won't even go over my head, what did I do wrong?
@madcaphats Жыл бұрын
Can you measure your head circumference and your top of one ear over your head to the top of the other ear? Email me madcaphats@gmail.com and I will try to help! Also measure across the hat as well or around the band from the back seam all the way around. Tori

Another idea Cynthia...can you check to make sure your printer settings are correct? Another sewer had the same problem and it turned out the setting on her printer was set to fit to page. Your setting needs to be set to actual size. We can check that too after you email me. I can send you a picture of what the settings screen should be. Fit to page reduces the pattern pieces by about 5%. Which is a lot in head size.

Thankyou for the advise, the number 1 of my patterns has a 1 inch box in it which is the right scale, the two bands in the pattern I was using were 22 " my head measurements are 22.5 dang I really like this hat and I would like to make one right, could the fabric I used be the problem? I just used some fleece I had to tryout the pattern.
@madcaphats Жыл бұрын
That inch box will be almost an inch at 95% so I am pretty sure the printer settings need to be looked at. I emailed you a picture.
