I have purchase the templates. much appreciate this. sometimes it is very difficult to tell someone's head size. their face maybe oval or thin, so it can be deceiving. also sometimes people simple like to wear bigger hats. I have one aunt who likes large even though her head is really medium. everyine has their perferences.

@@cathrung9220 Very true! The sizing on this pattern is meant to be slightly loose rather than tight. You can add a small length of elastic at the back, inside the sweatband to tighten fit

I love that as long as you've been sewing, you're a beginner quilter. There are so many ways to sew, and so many different skill sets you can learn. Some of my early beginner sewing projects last year were placemats, but I haven't done anything that needed binding. I do have my eye on a couple newbie quilt projects (haven't started quilting at all yet) and these would be such great practice. I really like your binding instructions.

Be patient with yourself and accept that you might have to make more than one to get the results that you will love!! Years ago, when drafting this pattern, I probably made dozens of design samples before I got all the little flaws figured out and removed!! Still do that to this day ... even for something like a placemat. This is one of the more challenging hats in the collection so take your time and make at least two!! Cheers, Tori

I have a 24.5" diameter circumference head. Your pattern goes to 23.5" only. How can I manipulate the available patter? By the way wonderful video!
@madcaphats18 күн бұрын
You can try setting your printer to increase the size of the pattern but likely that is be difficult going up since the outline box is part of the pattern sizing and increasing the size of the output may put that box off the page. You might consider investing in the paid pattern, links in the video description, as it does have the size 24.5 as well as other sizes and full size pieces!! Cheers, Tori

I have a problem on how adjust threads, my threads always create loops behind the fabric. I'm seriously struggling with the thread tension.
@madcaphats28 күн бұрын
Hi Georgina ... Check the tension of your bobbin case ... You should be able to hold the thread end outside of the case and it stays at the length you are holding and does not slip to unwind more thread. Also the threading. Google threading your brand of machine and make sure you have it threaded correctly. If you are in a city or a member of a sewing group on Facebook in a city or populated area, ask who other sewers use to repair their machines. Your feed dog timing might need adjusting.

Bought the deluxe pattern and ready to try this. Two questions, though. First - do you wash your fabrics before sewing your hats? Second, I think I would prefer to sew the cap down to the brim but I am not sure how you did that. Are you able to clarify? Thanks for the video and pattern!
@madcaphatsАй бұрын
@@Oldthumbs Yes wash and steam iron your fabric if the fabric is washable and can be ironed. You sew the edge of the top of the visor to the bottom edge of the top ...the part that would be pulled down by the snap. Do this part by hand working from one side of the visor to the other. I would try my safety pin method first however to see if you like that. Cheers and thank you, Tori

If you are using quilting cotton weight cotton then yes. IF heavier cotton the top is nice softer so just do the brim! Hope that helps, Tori

I found the instructions for cutting the pattern to be a bit misleading. The seamstress should first determine the circumfrence of their head before deciding how big to make the circle/top of hat. Quadruple layer your fleece and determine a comfortable length. Take the length of your hat band (not including seam allowance) and divide by 3.14 to determine the diameter for your circle cut (also not including seam allowance). As printed, the top of the hat is approximately a "net" 7 inches which sews perfectly into a 22 inch hat band (22/3.14 = 7). If your quadruple layer hat band needs to be larger than 22 inches, you'll want to increase the size of your circle cut. For example: if you need to accomodate a 23 inch band, increase your circle diameter to 7 3/8" (plus seam allowance). Thinking my 22 inch head was average, I cut my circle first and ended up with a too tight hat. I would have had to stretch the hat top to make it fit a 23 inch band.
@madcaphatsАй бұрын
I am glad you figured out a solution for your own head size! It is a bit trickey to work out the top the way you describe as I have added a dart to give the top some lift and shape. Better to just add a bit to the edge of the top line outside cut line from the free pattern we provide with the link in the description. You can always start with the extra and baste it on ... if too big then remove and trim a bit off and try again. You are basically making your own pattern for your machine and your fabric choices so there is bound to be some experimenting at first. You really don't want to know how many of these I have made in my career and my sewing staff back in the day as well. Thousands. We used to make them for charity too. But every fabric is going to behave differently and you should draft a hard pattern from posterboard once you get it right for you and then you can just trace your pattern with great success!!! Thanks so much for watching and for your comment, cheers, Tori

@madcaphats2 ай бұрын
Krista I used a straight stitch as most of the sewing is just a seam straight up the back or near the top edge so there is really nothing preventing stretch around the head. Hope that helps! Tori
