This video actually give some great advice, because back in 2001 when I was in Australia I got a Akubra hat that was a good fit, it was the style of I liked. I wore it for quite a while, and then I stopped wearing it because I didn’t want to ruin it by wearing it out. Over time it actually did shrink quite a bit, to the point that I could no longer wear it. So I definitely can say that hats will get smaller if you don’t wear them or at the very least put a (hat jack) in it! At the time I did not have a (hat jack), and now it’s too late, because it has shrunk to the point that I had to give it to my daughter to wear!😢

Very helpful, I just shrunk an unworn fur felt Statesman 61 to a 60 or just under in the car yesterday (very hot day) be careful though as I almost over did it, also the inner band doesn't wrinkle like it does with the hat fillers and it shrinks even so it takes away the side gaps you can get on a hat thats too big, Thanks :)

Yes I seem to be between a large and a medium of a flat cap i just bought and I bought it too small. I could have bought the large. I always buy a large baseball cap however baseball caps have size reducer straps built into them. I don't like the idea of spacers. I am not going to do that. If it dose not fit me, and this Brixton medium flat cap I just bought is too tight it has to go back.

The sizer strips inside will work generally. The bigger hat might now fit, but the larger size just looks too big on the head. It just doesn't look right. You just have to get the right size if you can

I like this guy a lot. Thanks for the video. Got a Filson Tin Bush hat, and it is slightly too big in large. I suppose medium would be slightly too small. Wasn't sure which was better/worse! It'll probably shrink on its own from my sweaty head and/or hot car. If not, I'll seek some fillers, assuming it doesn't blow off my head in the wind first! (It does have a chin strap.)

Bit bigger is good. Fillers make the hat smaller if you need but hats don't get looser or bigger, they tend to shink so better to get a touch bigger if that is an option.

I have a tweed British Ghillie hat that is a tad too large. It has no hatband to put strips in. Since it is wool, do you think the wet down and let dry in a warm area would work? It sits on my head a bit too loose, and I'm afraid in a high wind that it would blow off and I'd lose it. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

@@jrmbayne I sprayed it with water first, my drier has a shoe rack attachment which means it’s doesn’t tumble around. Actually did it twice on high heat. Checked it every 10 mins and it worked great

I realised today why so many Baker boy hats I try on don't sit right. It's way there packed with shipping etc. There is only one hat I tried in store were had what's the word plumpness and sat right a brand called mantaray a waxs look. You walk around shops like Marks and Spencer and try there flat Bakerboy hats on u will see what mean

I bought mine probably more than 1 size too big. Let's wait till the Summer and I'm sure will try to "cook" it in the hot car. Filler is still not quite fit for me :(

Yes, very easy to make it smaller in a hot car ! Just don't make it too small !!

I would also recommend people try cutting an old soft leather belt and applying double-sided tape, and attaching the cut strip into the hat. Usually you can find one in a thrift store for like a buck and you can create about 10 inserts with one belt.

Will the shrink fix work on a Brixton Brood like you have on? I am a size 59 and the large (which I have, black and grey) is 60, the medium is 58 which feels a little tight.

Hey there, I would suggest getting the inner brim wet and then stretching it by wearing it on your head! You can try the hat jack but go slow, if you go too fast you risk tearing the stitching! Thanks!

Hello Kye, Thank you for your inquiry. The Akubra Milan has a buckram (cotton) inner band, so it is highly unlikely that the hat will shrink. Really the only way it'll shrink is if you get the hat completely submerged in water - this will cause the felt to shrink. Hope this helps! Hats by the Hundred Team

Check out the Sweat Band fillers. They can make a hat smaller. Small fillers are only sent on Felt or Larger style hats. Not Caps. But Sweat Bands on our site might help up to 2 cm smaller. Thanks !

Not unless you dry them out and don't wear them for a while. If you keep hats a bit moist and wear them, they will be stable.

Hi! Most newboys caps already have an internal adjustor in the sweatband, we suggest using that to adjust sizing. However, if it's a hat you already have and does not have an internal adjustor, hat fillers would be perfect! Just make sure you place them inside the sweatband at the back for comfort and so you also don't see it in the front when wearing your cap. We hope this helps! - The Hats Team

If the sweatband of the cap you wanna shrink is only sewed by the edge, not completely, the way is the same as shown in the video. If that doesnt work, you can sew a couple of stitches folding the sweatband into itself. At last, you can always wet the cap and dry it with an iron or heater, that will shrink the whole cap.

As you have probably already found out, Panamas shrink a bit over time. It could be because the sweatband gets tighter or because the moisture evaporates from the straw.
