When my husband and I married, he always encouraged me to wear a hat in the sun, to prevent sunburn on my face. Slowly I began wearing hats to Mass again, then also to the malls when shopping. About 20 years ago, I just happened to wear a hat to a conference and that was the first time I did not get a migraine while at this annual conference. Suddenly I realized that the hat prevented the fluorescent lights from getting to my eyes and giving me a migraine! I tell everyone that they can wear a hat, they just need to find a style that fits them. Also, if they know someone who gets migraines, encourage them to wear hats when indoors with fluorescent lights. It has made a big difference for me.

Yes - the pink cloche hat with the bow was beautiful! I loved the pink beret also ❤️. I was surprised to hear Myriam say that many women are afraid of being looked at,due to lack of self confidence. N Doucette don’t know where you are in the states but there is a fabulous hat shop in Eureka Springs, Arkansas (Hats, Hides and Heirlooms) that has a wonderful selection of hats. I have about 65 hats of which most came from that shop.

I like Chapel Hats and Village Hat Shop, both of which have dot com online stores. I bought a cocktail hat from Village Hat Shop for autumn, and a top hat from Chapel Hats last October. Both have excellent customer service and free/no hassle 30-day returns.

@@ninthsquarecommunity I recently bought a collection 6 pillbox hats from the Jackie Kennedy era at an estate sale, and they are gorgeous, each with two hat pins. You're right. There's nothing like seeing a hat in person. That said, most of my hats are bought online. I know my size, so fit isn't a problem. Buying from reputable online shops, I never have a hassle with a return or exchange, though that rarely happens. I never thought about Ebay! I will definitely check that out. Thanks for the heads up, and if you have any tips about buying hats on Ebay, they'd be much appreciated.

I love the hats you chose. The black fedora, the gray fur, and the fuchsia cloche were my favorites on you. I think the fuchsia suited you much more than the orange, and even more than the particular shades of red (though I think your red lipstick, for example, is a shade of red that suits you beautifully). I really enjoyed this, as it is always difficult to tell which hats do and do not suit -- and it is helpful to see a shopkeeper choosing and also styling the hats on you. Loved this!

I love hats so much. What an informative video. The hats you chose really suit you. My grandmother wore lots of hats 1940s-1970s and I inherited them. She told me how changing the hat band could change the entire look of the hat and outfit. She used petersham or satin ribbon, or various scarves. So, you could accessorize the plain black fedora with a pop of color by changing the ribbon. Again, thank you for taking us to a hat shop.

You have no idea how much I enjoyed this video. I am Polish and when I was a child my mum and grandma would buy hats only in a little hat store just like that! I also used to go with my grandfather to a hat factory to sell his rabbit skins for felt and I remember the amazing factory hat store. I also have fond memories of all the ladies wearing proper hats to church on Sunday. Nowadays the little hat store in my home town is long gone and everybody wears cheap quality hats from chain stores :( Would you please make a video how to style the hats you bought with different outfits? My daughter looks fantastic in fedora's. Most are men's hats. My favorite one she found at a thrift store and has a small tasteful flat bow. She gets compliments from MEN on that one. It is her personal style trademark now.

Bonjour Marie-Anne. Oui, I enjoyed this video and listening to both of you speaking French. Your French is different from the French spoken here in Canada. I grew up on the Prairies. Everyone wore hats. It was more about the environment than style and confidence. I now live in Ontario. A lot of people do not wear hats. However, I do in all seasons. I know people look but I don't care, I don't think about it. And, it's part of my look. I do adore berets. I have so many in a lot of different colours. They are too cold in the winter. Ok for shopping or eating out but not otherwise. In winter I mostly wear toques, or those fur-type hats or a trapper hat. It is usually quite windy and I don't like if my hat blows off. I also have a small head and hats are usually too big and need to be adjusted. Another issue I have is that I have green eyes and sensitive to light so even in Winter and cloudy days I still wear sunglasses. Sometimes at night as well if the lights are too bright. So I need my hat and sunglasses to compliment each other. Sometimes this makes driving annoying. I like how you were able to stand and move around while deciding on hats. Here we sit in a chair in front of a mirror and only get a head shot. I think it's important to get the whole picture. Also, I like Myriads poncho with the scarf on top. A very great idea. This was a good video. Merci.

I agree with the tips, very smart advice. I love hats and had one in my early 20s, but I was not comfortable wearing it. It was stylish and did not go with my outfits at that time. I felt out of the place. Very few hats look wow on me. I bought a similar hat recently and it is so flattering. I am in my 40s. I am wearing it confidently and I receive compliments and smiles all the time. It makes such a difference. You start walking like a queen and get treated like a queen. ❤️ I absolutely love it. ❤️

Ooh, I liked the black hat with the "puff" on it and the pink cloche on you best. I've had a maroon beret for years. I keep it for travel because it packs flat and covers my ears if necessary. I'm having a bit of "hat envy" now, because in Florida it's usually too hot to wear a hat except to keep the sun off your face and out of your eyes. I bought a beautiful pink hat in Brussels last year. Don't know what I was thinking. It sits in my closet because it's too warm here to wear it!

Just bought a new bordeaux coloured, widerimmed fedora last week. Love wearing hats, that is what I would call real hats, structured ones, not knitted beany type ones. The wider the rim the better. And yes that sometimes draws a bit of attention, but always positive. Just say thank you and good day to you too. It gives a smile on both sides of those little encounters.

I love hats and have a few quality ones. My favorite one is a black wool bowler with a good substantial rim. Instantly adds class to any outfit. I have one like you are wearing in the video at 5:00 in burgundy wool. I have two fur hats like the ones at 14:30. Never saw anyone in my area wear one like it. I don't have an extensive collection but they are curated to fit my needs and wardrobe. I wish more women would wear hats.

In Southern California I like linen hats and straw hats in the summer, but in winter I have some wool and faux fur hats. Check out Lillie and Cohoe... Canadian designers with gorgeous hats! I am so glad you got the fuscia hat! Years ago I was staring at a bright pink cloche style hat and could not decide if I should buy it or not… A woman walked by and asked me what I was thinking about. I told her. I told her I didn’t have anything that would match the hat and it felt very frivolous. She smiled and said that’s exactly why you should buy it! I did and I wear it every summer all the time!

That pink cloche hat is exactly what was winter school hat in dark grey. We used to do all sorts of horrible things to it . For meetings in Melbourne in winter would not be without a hat either a fedora style or a beret on really windy days. As I am very short I always wear a hat that matches my coat colour...... But Marie Anne is there not a certain etiquette around whether you take you hat off or leave it on when you go inside... Another great video. You always do so much great work

I really loved the first gray hat, you put on . Even if it was with a, deep gray scarf, with a black coat , or jacket. Assuming these hats are for every day shopping, or errands, or walking the dog. I am so glad that you are finally incorporating hats into your wardrobe. Honestly I never understand why more women (and men) don't wear hats. They keep the body so much warmer in cold weather. It is estimated that about 80% of body heat is loss from one's head. I watch the I Love Paris KZbin channel. The nicely dressed people often look so cold. I think to myself...just put on a hat please. Just look at the stylish Princess Kate with her hats. She always looks stunning when wearing one. Also, don't worry about the looks/stares that you will get. They are admiring a stylish woman. When spring time arrives next year you can buy a light straw hat for warmer weather. You looked so chic and natural in the more structured styles, and not at all over the top. Even simple hats will get you noticed anyway in my experience. Once I visited Paris in this season, early December, and I knew it would be cold. I wore a black velvet hat with grey faux fur trim, a bit like a Russian hat. It was made in Italy and I bought it for around $20US at TJ Maxx! Was so happy to be taken for a Parisienne!!! Still have it and love it, also wear berets all winter here in Pennsylvania USA. ❤💂‍♀️👩‍🎨❤😘

This is a very informative video. I learned a great deal about choosing hats. I LOVE HATS! My first job as a teenager was working in a millenary shop. The black fedora with the silver band, the both fuchsia hats, and the cloche I liked on you.The hat and scarf tip was great! Yes, I agree, it takes some confidence to wear hats. Marie-Anne has given me a new appreciation for hats! In the southern U.S. where I live, I don't know if I've ever seen a store dedicated to hats only, as a specialty. One might find a section in a clothing store where there are women's hats, but there would never be any specialist to help you know if you are wearing the hat correctly, or if it is flattering on you! You're on your own! Does anyone in the Atlanta area know where there's a store like De'clic? I suspect that authentic women's hat stores in the south became extinct after the Jackie Kennedy era.

I believe the hat you wore out of the shop is a hybrid between a cloche and fedora. It looks perfect on you and I was hoping you would choose that one. My next favorite was the deep pink one - and you chose that one, too! The light gray fur one looked good on you also, especially with your gray turtleneck. I was hoping you would also get one in blue, but I'm sure you have a budget. I personally LOVE hats in black, charcoal gray, dark olive, and cranberry red (maroon?) and I wear them with a scarf and if it isn't too cold, I wear a cape. Thank you for this educational video!

The fuchsia structured hats look amazing on you. The colour really suits your skin tone. The black is too harsh. I loved the fuchsia with the small black band around. Magnifique!
