I am so glad I found this video. We just hatched our first set of quail (85ish) of them with about a 60% hatch rate on shipped eggs. We have been told so many times that they hatch on day 17, without fail. Ours mostly came on day 18 and 19. We were going to turn the hatcher off today but now will go ahead and leave it on until day 22. Thank you so much for all that y'all do, we enjoy your videos and learn so much from y'all!

When i hatch quail eggs i leave temp on 102 first 1-15 days and i drop it to 99 on 15-17 days i had 97-98% hatch rate. The reason why i leave temp so high is because even when i have to move eggs they will still keep the temp up and wont lose any temp at all! Also i do 75% humidity first 10 days and the rest of the days i do 60%. If you have anything under 90% hatch success do this method you can thank me later..

Kevin , You are quite correct about the possibility of late hatching. The eggs can and do run the gamut between early and late . As most everyone that hatches eggs knows, chicken eggs take 21 days to hatch . My eggs began hatching very early on day 20 ! By day 21 about half of the eggs were already hatched. And the hatching rate was slowing down. Day 22 and several eggs had not hatched. Day 23 and a couple more hatched. Day 24 and three more eggs hatched. Day 25 ! And another egg hatched. Although it was not properly developed and died after one day . With that it was time to stop. Hatching eggs surely is not an exact procedure.

Great tips Kevin! One thing I would mention is that hatching viability and fertility are two different things, a fertile egg may become unviable after 7-10 days of storage, although the way you describe how you store them, as long as they are kept cool and turned a couple times a day should give you good viability for at least 14 days. I have had great success even up to 21 days storing chicken eggs the way you describe, with minimal decrease in hatch rate on older eggs, when I was trying to get a full incubator load in the winter when they weren't laying a lot. (My incubator holds 288 chicken eggs, lol) I generally try to keep them only 7-10 days before setting them though.

I saw on another vlog The you can sex the eggs before you put them in the incubator The roundish shape eggs are female And the more pointed eggs are male The male eggs if you run your finger over the pointed end You should feel like a thorn Which most times you can't see with the eye He said he had one hundred percent success rate with this method I haven't tried it yet I get my quail next week But it is handy if it works because we all want females for laying Unless you are raising them for meat Another tip I got of You tube was Buy the small coloured zip ties and each batch of young quail put the same colour zip tie on their legs Not to tight to allow for growth And another colour for the next batch I really enjoy watching your volgs Cheers Mark

In my experience with chickens, those weird, not quite right eggs happen when they get laid on the poop on the floor of the coop rather than in the nice, clean nesting box. I think it’s probably the ammonia eating through the bloom and into the shell. I’ve picked up a few over the years that look fine on the surface that’s facing up and are all like that underneath.

Buy chicks, locally or mail order. You'll start seeing eggs in 6-8 weeks. After that, you'll get almost 1 egg/hen/day. Eat the excess males. You'll likely get much better hatch rates with eggs laid by your hens vs mail order eggs, anyway.

Living in Thailand the humidity can go.through the roof in the incubator even with no water inside So the next time I incubate any quail eggs I am going to buy some bags on line of silica gel and use them to soak up the excess humidity Then the silica gel can be dried and re used many times

They poop a lot. 24 birds will eat a little under 50 lb of food a month. You can find them a 20% protein crumble for $14 a bag at either farm and fleet or tractor supply. Everything else is an adventure...

Hi there. You really do know your stuff. Thank you for the information. We tried to hatch 12 quail. We had 50% hatch, but 3 died so we are left with 25% success. If only we had seen your videos sooner. There is so much that we did wrong. The 3 we hatched are thriving and now 4 weeks old. I suspect one is a cockeral amongst them but the crow noise we heard was only once so we will wait and see. I don't want to go pressing on his body parts like another KZbinr suggests to check out his sex. That'd just be wrong!!!!! Thanks again for another great video. Lesley England UK
