Detroit use to be called Motor city. In the 80s the auto manufacturers closed the automobile plants and moved them to other countries. The people of Detroit were hit hard. The factories, not just in Detroit, but all over the US left because of resource depletion and the cost of living was high. There might be a documentary about the Detroit factories leaving. I remember one was made.
