I'm finding it very hard to write a response to this video topic, when my head is full of a thousand words to say about the opening few lines of this video. I'm very lost with what to say for now, I just had to jot something down tonight: Having spent years battling Depression very publicly and being torn apart in person and online, for talking about my mental health or for how I was when I was in darkness - by either haters, ex-friends, KZbinrs and co-workers - I completely and utterly understand how painful and hard it is to keep afloat. I understand.

As someone who finds it very difficult to accept that not everyone is going to like me, I thank you and wish you can ignore all the hate and keep being the WONDERFUL person you are. Xx

God I love the word arsehat. I've always wondered why on earth youtubers respond to hate comments (sometimes moreso than the nice comments), until I started receiving a couple of hate comments myself, and I could NOT ignore them! I replied fairly but bluntly. I had to reply. I'm not "big" enough to have loads of hate thrown at me, but I've had a few. I've often experienced the "hater" commenting back feeling bad that they've been confronted, and then they've send me an apology! Crazy. I have no idea why you receive hate but pffft, you're above it anyway, look how far you've come!

The one thing I don't understand haters doing is dedicating their time paying attention to someone they hate. In what realm does it make any sense to watch someone, create a hate blog, and have a full on conversation about someone you despise? Like why are you wasting your time person!?! Why are you being so evil!?
@daffodilZephyr9 жыл бұрын
Julia Mak yes, absolutely. I can totally understand leaving comments on someone who is morally in the wrong. But as far as some of the hate that goes around for certain people, it makes absolutely no sense. Also, cliche inspirational comment here, but seeing you through your videos, obviously that's the only part of you we get to know, and you're so positive and happy and in this one, being even able to take one of the worst situations to come out of the internet and provide positive and constructive feedback so it doesn't hurt as many people anymore, that is truly inspirational. If you can be so amazing and positive whilst suffering from depression like I am, why can't I feel those same things too? You truly remind me that "happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light", and I couldn't thank you enough for it xx

I saw your tweet about haters and admittedly rolled my eyes, like, a lot, because I've been seeing a lot of youtubers addressing hate recently and it just seems so pointless to me to acknowledge it. After seeing this video though, I feel like I know where you were coming from, I really enjoyed it and felt like you had a valuable message. It was good to see your thoughts properly laid out, it's unfortunate how Twitter's 140 character limit leads to the oversimplification of what people want to say.

I'm just glad I'm not in the same situation you are, Carrie, because I would do the same thing! I HATE having people not like me - it gives me all kinds of anxiety. Dealing with that on a large scale? I just couldn't do it. No one blames you for responding to those comments or going on trashing websites anonymously, and you should cut yourself a break, too! Hopefully it gets easier to deal with for you, although I really do wish the people who give you a hard time on your videos would just go away - they can be really vicious. Oh my goodness how I've cried at this video. Recently I've become open about struggling with the same thing as well as anxiety, it's been so hard but hearing that you've dealt with the same thing and just pushed forwards and tried crazily hard to be positive yet still accepting some day will just be hard. Unfortunately people use the Internet for the wrong reasons, but when you do get someone who voices their opinion loudly in a negative way, just give yourself time to read through the countless number of comments from the people who watch you because they love, respect and look up to you, just like I do! Thank-you Carrie! *pinkie*

This was really important to me right now. My videos generally don't get many views but I recently got one that got 60,000 views and its kind of controversial. I've gotten a lot of hate on that video which isn't really something I'd dealt with before other that just trolls. A lot of people just clearly misunderstood the video or didn't watch it all the way through and when I corrected them they'd generally react like 'oh fair enough, I understand now'. But there were some people who were still arguing back at me, and arguing amongst themselves in the comments. I don't even look now because I know its not worth any more of my time. If they are so determined to find me at fault somehow, clutching at any straw they can find then they are not worth my energy. Keep working hard Carrie - there are so many people that love your videos and you give out such great advice. You're a lovely human ♡♡♡♡♡♡

I get so much hate over my voice. So many people judge my voice and ALL are SO unbelievably incorrect about my upbringing and background and especially my class that I spend hours and hours wishing to correct them all that I've gotten so close to making a video about being a parking glass girl and even spilling my financial background and details - and I realised how crazy that was, because that's like ridiculously private information, but I was so fed up with inaccurate hate I really wanted to do it. I never did thank god, and never will; but the desire to correct never goes away and it's so so hurtful that strangers around the world can take away all that I'm proud of about my independent through false judgements. But so agree with this video. It's unfortunately gotten to the point however that I have stopped speaking & stopped making videos because I'm that paranoid about how my voice ruins me and drives so much hatred. Like I genuinely haven't physically spoken not even to my own mother, and it kills me. But that's the effect hate can have on people, even people like me with so few subscribers, and I wish haters understood the damage they can cause.

GeorgiChan Not all hate comments are the same, but all positive ones are. "You're my hero/ I love u/ ur so pritty/ notice me." Yawn. That's just the unfair nature of youtube. All praise looks the same and blends together.
@georgirp9 жыл бұрын
xqeenx Usually hateful comments are along the same line, so yes they do grow old. Also spam comments. I'd hardly call people being nice, boring. Telling someone that you admire, that you look at them is a good thing.

CARRIE I FREAKING ADORE YOU!!!!! This video is something I really needed because I'm bad about getting really defensive in the face of people who don't like me & this was a great reminder that what a few haters think of me doesn't matter.

***** i honestly don't think it was stupid to do that - you have every right to correct those people talking crap about you and that was one way of doing it (maybe even a really clever one).....but you're right, not concentrating on hate in the first place is the best way :)

Carrie you are brilliant. You know you are, millions who watch you onstage, read your book or watch your videos do too. The ones hating envy your success and loving personality so feel the need to lash out because of their insecurities about failing at life. The last thing I want to sound like is a brown noser, but you're really a fantastic role model to people of all ages, and I will continue to support you in what you do. Sing your heart out on that west end stage and think you've achieved dreams one could only imagine.

Carrie you just kicked ass in this video! Absolutely fantastic!!! No question that for people who are receiving hate, this video will help a lot! I know what it is like to be diagnosed with depression, and man I wish this video had come out months ago cause I would have got over it a lot quicker! Carrie you rule!!!!!

It baffles me how people decide they don't like someone and instead of moving on with their own "perfect" lives, they go and dedicate their precious time to a person they do not like. Time is a gift, so why not give it to the people you actually love?
@Carrie9 жыл бұрын
pinkunicornglitter But that works on the flip side when we obsess over hateful comments and over analyse why someone doesn't like us/why they'd say mean things instead of spending our time on the people we love! Which is what I need to work on MASSIVELY! xxx
@pinkunicornglitter9 жыл бұрын
***** Yes, I agree completely. I think it's human nature to want to be liked though, so it's understandable that hateful comments bother us so much! It's also great that you're self-aware enough to realise what you need to work on because it takes an incredible person to admit their weaknesses xxx

I'm 15th viewer what haha omg this never happens to me. I think I have depression (or perhaps anxiety) but I'm not quite sure atm, the past couple of months have been a bit of a mental health mess :/ . I'm the sort that prioritises other people's problems over mine. Anyway, great video as always, love you :) this is like that Dr Seuss quote, 'those who mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind' :-)

Carrie, I have no idea how can someone hate you! I mean, how is it possible? You really are the sweetest person I've ever met. Whenever I'm having a bad day, the only thing that I need to feel better is watching one of your videos and that's it, my day gets better with all the kindness and positiveness that your videos show. It's just amazing, you are an amazing, beautiful, lovely, talented person. Please remember that if someone hate you it definitely is because they don't know a thing about you. You deserve so much love, so many smiles and hugs, and RESPECT - I love you, Carrie. PS: I can't wait to read your book, do you have any idea when is it coming to Argentina? Kisses!

Carrie, imagine someone came up to you and said "This jelly bean tastes like poo. You won't like it. Don't eat it." Would you want to eat it? I can understand the "you told me not to, so now I want to" philosophy. I totally can. But it will totally hurt you. Don't go looking for people who say hurtful things. Of course, people actively wishing ill on others makes me think of actors who go around wishing each other broken legs.

I think the fact that Carrie was diagnosed with depression just goes to prove her point that you don't really know KZbinrs because I bet I wasn't the only one who didn't really expect that. I must say I do have opinions on KZbinrs that I don't necessarily like but for one, most of those opinions aren't based on their videos, it's usually other things they do or say that I don't always feel comfortable with and therefore I don't watch them. I'll never understand people who watch the videos of people that they seem to hate with such passion. Final note - I think most people have done something as ridiculous as the forum account thing at some point in their lives.

Love this! I definitely do similar things (although my social media audience is far smaller!) especially as I suffer from anxiety and I tend to catastrophise things in my head big time! Power to you for speaking up about it and talking about your mental health issues- we need to be discussing these way more! Xxx

Carrie, I'm going to save this link and watch it several times over. I identify with this very much in two ways. Firstly, as an author - as I'm sure you have now experienced - you have the similar dilemma of 'Do I read the reviews?', and you have this conversation with yourself: Me 1: I want to read the reviews. Me 2: Writers should never read the reviews. Me 1: But there will be nice things! Me 2: Yes, but there will also probably be some things you don't like. Me 1: I can handle that. Me 2: Hahaha. No you can't. Me: 1: Yes I can. Me 2: * sigh * Me 1: * reads all the reviews. Finds the one bad one (and by bad, I mean bitchy - not constructive). Forgets about the nice things. Thinks about it non-stop for weeks. * Sometimes there are rather hilarious things that you just want to correct but you have to stop yourself. My latest book has a two star review on Amazon that says "I bought this book for a friend. They haven't told me if they liked it yet, so I can't comment on it." Which made me giggle a lot. When my first book came out in the States, one journalist decided to write a 3000 word article about how much she didn't like me. Not the book - how much she did not like me, or the me she thought she knew having never been in contact with me at all. This was years before I started making KZbin videos, and there wasn't much information about my life online so she literally made up my life - where I grew up, where I went to school etc etc it was the most bizarre thing, every piece of information was wrong and she must have known it. The newspaper kept tweeting the article at me, wanting me to respond (which I didn't). Who does that? Very sad people who need a hug - as you rightly said. Secondly, and slightly differently but more specifically to do with hate offline (I hate saying "in real life", like the internet isn't real; you know what I mean), I receive rude comments every day because I have ectrodactyly - which is missing and misshapen fingers. Despite dealing with this all my life, it never ceases to astound me what people consider ok to say to a perfect stranger. Some examples: "Did your parents consider abortion?" "Can you dress yourself?" "Does the rest of your body work ok?" "DON'T TOUCH ME. IS IT CONTAGIOUS?" I mean, seriously. Normally, I'm fine and I can deal with it but sometimes it's overwhelming. (If anyone's interested, I made a video over on my channel called the 'Be A Good Human' book tag, trying to inspire people to read diverse books to squish ignorance - and therefore hate - and turn crappy situations like this into ones filled with love for excellent books. Because books make the world a better place. Yes, they do.) This was a rather long comment! What I mean to say is: YES YES AND THRICE YES to everything you say in this video. And thank you for sending me a copy of All I Know Now. I'm currently reading it, and loving it very much. Lots of love xxxxxx

Carrie, I love and admire you're positive attitude and your ability to share your learning from your mistakes you clearly don't need to listen to any of the negative comments or hate because at the end of the day you're the bigger person and you just constructively used that hate as fuel to help others to deal with hate and that says a lot about you as a person ❤

@Carrie9 жыл бұрын
safia qureshi You can if you want to but it's not worth getting dragged down by it. Sometimes, the information they've based their opinion on is very clearly out there if they just looked a little harder for it and having to correct people over and over and over again weighs you down! Sometimes, it's best just to let people think what they think and concentrate on the people who have the right info! xxx

Carrie, I have to say how much of an inspiration you are, not only to me but to all of us Hopefulls out there. How you deal with issues (and the mistakes you have made while doing that) show us so many wise lessons one could only wish to life by all. This might sound a bit weird (I am aware of it too ;) ) but the way you try to better yourself everyday dispite of all your human flaws is amazing, and I adore you for it. I hope I didn't repeat myself, Xx. Vera
