@BibleBeliever-c6das much as it always hurts to admit people don’t really talk about the lives most black church musicians live outside of church and it makes it seem like some not all of them really come to put on a performance and make worship more about them than it is about God as well as sometimes the black church musicians aren’t even christian

I agree ! I think they were so connected that from the first note that Sharay played together with the drummer with absurd precision and even when he paused when he came back at the right time, these are things worthy of being seen, who knows, maybe he'll play live!

I agree, I also point out that from the beginning Sharay's presentation was intense until the end! That's what I like to see! for he was aware of everything he was doing. Nowadays, I don't know if he would be able to do that... because the producers are in the ear by the talkback saying: less note... This takes all the shine out of the presentation.

I worked with a mostly white Christian church for a couple years and I have to say. Black churches look like 100000000 times more fun to attend and perform for. Worship you can feel to your soul with music like this. Amazing playing, amazing music. Amazing vibe.
@kenfontenot
@kenfontenot 21 күн бұрын
That's because the incorporate club elements to their worship in the 1950's. Thomas Dorsey the father of Gospel music said he was torn between the work of the Lord and the works of man playing in nightclubs, barrel houses, brothels, and for vaudeville entertainment. The fruit of that is what one would call the "black gospel" music today that uses the same musicians for Sunday morning services that play with Beyonce, Lil Nas, and Sam Smith. This is dishonorable in the house of God. Furthermore, there is no such thing as the "white church" or the "black church". If you worked in all those churches and all you took away was that you had more fun in a predominantly African American church then you've missed the entire point of the gospel.
@BillFurlong
@BillFurlong 21 күн бұрын
@@kenfontenot Maybe so, but the black churches still look like more fun to me. It's just my opinion. Thanks for sharing your historical knowledge and feelings as well however. As a musician that enjoys rhythm and the vibe of the above video, I stand by my message even 10 years later.

When I was a kid, I'll NEVER forget my dad telling me ALL this Black music, that entertains the world and that so many people around the world want to and try to emulate & copy hails, or can be traced back to the church. So much love & respect for the Tribe of Juda🇺🇸 from the Tribe of Benjamin 🇯🇲 God does love us - but we must do more for him.
@kenfontenot
@kenfontenot 21 күн бұрын
Your dad lied to you to make you feel better. If it weren't for Thomas Dorsey learning Vaudeville a creation of Tony Pastor then you would never have 80% of the Gospel song to that you hear today. If it weren't for the German pianist Julien Weiss then you would have never heard of Scott Joplin. Oh and guess what in the Congressional Records Sam Phillips literally created Rock and Roll giving both black and white musicians a platform to launch their music careers. And you wouldnt have heard of Jazz if it weren't for Nick Larocca. The very first jazz record in 1917 was Livery Stable Blues. Regardless of who came before or after. Folks like Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker all play the standards that are created by Nick LaRoccas band the Original DixieLand Jazz Band. White people have heavily influenced the nation's music. It's an uncomfortable reality if your existence is dependent on the idea that African Americans need to be validated in external conventions in order to be indwelled with value. Unfortunately, this revisionist take is not only existing in music but in History. It's time to get out of the glass house before it's too late. You are not from the tribe of Judah. The Israelites were cut off and the entire book of Hosea and Amos is outlining the exile of them for the adoption of the gentile nations. And no they aren't ex Israelites. It would make no sense that God is going to exile a group for the adoption of a group who's yet to be exiled.

One needs only to visit some black churches and even some white churches in the south. We rock out! Sounds like my childhood church. Just choir rehearsal would be darn near a concert. This brotha killed it! I’ve listened to this a thousand times. And don’t forget my guy on the drums. The young guys around were sucking this up. The spirit was all over them and it was effortless!

Sharay, OMG, I am geeking out that you hearted me!!!!!!!!!!! I left Chicago back in 1986, I sung in Crane’s Gospel choir, I played for Simeons Gospel Choir and I would frequent all the concerts by Soul Children, Tommies, Saint James COGIC, Straight Way Youth Choir. I loved hearing other musicians like Wendell Lowe, Ernie from St. James, Xavier, Kevin Bond and Luke Austin back in the day. I got a scholarship in music to a HBC in Knoxville TN. Graduated with a music degree and was Worship Director at a Church in Knoxville for 30 yrs. I just moved to Greensboro NC where I’m worship pastor at a church, I’ve been here for a year and some months, it’s been amazing. Just looking at that video brought me back to and environment or atmosphere of musicians. I remember being a kid hearing other kids play drums, bass and organ that were on another level. Since I’ve been away from Chicago, you don’t see that kinda atmosphere. That video reminds me of that atmosphere and vibe that inspired me to play and worship. I’m trying to create that here with my kids ministries at Church. Again, thanks for the video and especially the heart!!!!!!

A musician should aspire to give the best interpretation to fit the genre and song. “Busy” or not “busy” is relative to the most authentic expression of the music being played. As a worship leader/ musician, I love Don Moen’s music. I don’t think the style Reed is playing would best fit the music I have heard from Don Moen. However, the style of bass that usually is best for Moen’s musical expression would fall grossly in the realm of underplayed and stale even if applied to this gospel song. Not because the bass player is not capable, but because they have chosen an expression that isn’t best for the actual music being played. Authentic interpretation is the real goal.

Youngstah watching the drummer at 3:49 is gonna out play them all 🤟🏽 The best part of this video are seeing all the youth watching and waiting to pick an instrument and groove one day. Churches have gotten so big with building remodels and declining attendance, the power bill is to high for after service jams and the times in-between to learn and discover. Thus the church grown musicians have declined, and the price per musician has soared do to scarcity. We better go back to the lil chuuch where we honed our skills.
