Rail's of Sheffield have sent out my batch 2 order of the Hatton's Genesis Coaches. I have bought 4 of the six liveries. This is a first look.

Nice execution of liveries but just a shame that they are generic and not models of coaches that existed. So I will stick to building and painting the brass kits I have had in stock for years

Nice liveries. I don't have room for them sadly, but I hope your steamies enjoy hauling them. Let's hope no bootlaces will be needed, lol.

I hope that the Hatton's Genesis coaches continue to be produced. I know Hornby have their 4 and 6 wheeled coaches, but if you are doing a layout where 2 pre-grouping companies operate, it is nice to have the coaches look different. When the Hornby and Hatton's coaches first came out, I bought a set of LBSCR Hornby coaches, and a set of SECR Hatton's coaches.

@richardlee653 Agree and I hope Rails go on to do Hatton's batch 3

They look pretty good in all honesty. If I ever fulfil my plan of buying a Great Central Railway express loco, I’ve got the choice of Hattons’ genesis or Rapido’s evolution coaches to pick from.

The Rapido look promising and I have ordered lots of them. I am even more excited about the Midland locos coming out from them that were announced yesterday.

I think they look lovely even if inaccurate. It's those stark white roofs that offend my eye. My batch of SECR ones look better with weathering, and varying degrees of it, on the roofs. Maybe I'll just spray Roof Dirt on one batch. I have a 00 Works LSWR 0-4-2 A12 which is crying out for a "matching" coach set. Another problem is that the provided couplings leave too much of a gap between the carriages. With the Hornby version of 6-wheeled carriages replacement with magnetic ones worked a treat, but the Hatton's ones then became too close and wouldn't accept the relatively gentle curves of the club layout with buffer locking. I need to find a solution that is just a bit larger. Always some problem to solve in this hobby!

Thanks for your comment. What did you think of the EFE Rail LSWR coaches that Rails now have on sale? I wonder if the Hornby magnetic coupling would work better.

@@modelrailwaynoob I do have a set of the LSWR Cross Country coaches in Southern Railway green. They also look great once the wheels have a coat of Sleeper Grime painted on them. I haven't tried changing the couplings bur they don't look too bad to me as they are. We are so spoilt for choice with the quality of r-t-r these days, which is a shame in one way because it reduces our incentive to build things ourselves. I have a collection of Model Railway News magazines from during World War 2 and the sheer inventiveness of those modellers was to be admired.

@MrDavil43 I am interested in their SR ex LSWR coaches. It's good for me becausenI don't have those skills. I do some.re-spraying and simple kits bit that's it. I am working on some more modern Balfour Beatty and Network Rail stuff at the moment

These coaches are positively stunning. Color schemes and details are eye openers. Can you kindly explain the First and Third lettering on these coaches ? Is it a Class ? Thank You ! 👍👍👍

Hi James. Yes it was class

Im really looking forward to receiving my GCR coaches now. Agreed, the colour might be off, but considering how little there is available, I don't suppose it'll matter much. Bring on your next video 👍

Have you ordered the Rapido GCR coaches? They look really nice. I am posting the GCR video tomorrow.
@JAMESDEMU-RailwayModeller7 күн бұрын
@modelrailwaynoob yes. I've been building a pair of GCR third class celearstory coaches for about a year, and just as I'm getting close to finishing, Rapido beat me to it, lol

Well that was a surprise to find at 0050 this morning. Aren’t they beauties. Can’t wait to see the forthcoming videos. PS (RAMC nephew got married in Hereford base chapel (a privilege to visit there), he wore No1s with a red beret) Proud uncle

Congratulations to your nephew. I bet he looked really smart. My step-grandson was asking about me being mean in green, so I dug out the photos with NBC kit and weapons to show him! He wasn't so interested in medical tents and stretchers but he did like the cas sim photos.

I've used a lot of 4-wheel coaches in N-gauge, but never 6-wheelers. So my question, what's the minimum radius they'll cope with? Do the centre wheels have any specific allowance for the tight curves that model railways are sometimes forced to use for lack of space?
@modelrailwaynoob3 күн бұрын
I don't officially know what the minimum radius is but I guess at 2. On the 6 wheeled version, the middle wheels move sideways for bends.
@richardlee6533 күн бұрын
I did a small layout based upon a second radius circle (with storage loop and small goods siding). I used a Hatton's Genesis 6 wheeler to design platform clearance, so second radius is fine. I haven't tried it on first radius, so I can't comment about that.
