Despite my replies below on a few issues, I should say that this gentleman is very engaging as a speaker and I am sure his book does have many merits as others have commented on.

Reagan was not just an introductory announcer and pitchman for GE as the author suggests. He starred as an Actor in numerous episodes and even was a producer on some of the episodes. Just saying he continued to act in productions throughout the 50's into the 60's right up until he became Governor of CA.

Just finished HW Brand's The General vs. the President. HW Brands does an excellent job of making history interesting through the vein of biography. He is a great story teller. It is hard to put down his books. I am looking forward to reading his next project.

Did you notice Brand points out this Reagan speech as an early infomercial on stage? Reveals the audience was actually paid to be there and perform for the cameras too.

I believe the governing leadership has nothing to do with the IQ, but has important things to do with the principles of the deep recognitions of America's own greatness of America's own foundations and constitutions as well as America's own patriotism and loyalty only as the number one priority for America's own security and safety, prosperity and unity. I also believe that the ability of using patriotic, capable, understanding and responsible experienced great leadership who are well understand the importance of America's own foundation and constitutions as well as America's own patriotism and loyalty, as the right arm, left arm...etc. This is why President Reagan was able to get things done and done quickly by support from his Vice-President Bush 41, Secretary of state Shultz, the Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, General Mattis, the principles only kind Supreme Court Justices Scalia who knows exactly what America's own constitutions mean and why is so important to maintain, protect and defend America's own foundations of Capitalism systems of liberty and entrepreneurships as the equality of the opportunities instead of the equality of the property of Communism ideologies systems countries. This is why America's own rules of laws as constitutions to maintain, protect and defend America's own foundations of Capitalism systems of liberty and entrepreneurships kind principals should never promote or encourage any of the Communism ideologies systems countries' ideas to put down America's own patriotism and loyalty by burn down America's own flags or against our country's own foundations and constitutions, or make Americans to be fearful to be patriotic and loyal to America's own foundations and constitutions, but to stand up strongly and firmly by America's own patriotism and loyalty as well as America's own foundation and constitutions forever and always. Because this is America of America's own foundation and constitutions by America's own patriotism and loyalty only. We welcome ones who love America and America's own foundation and constitutions by recognitions of America's own patriotism and loyalty only instead of inviting peoples unknown without any background check ups to be here for riots, since America is a civilized country of rules of laws to maitain, protect and defend America's own Capitalism systems of liberty and entrepreneurships from origin of beginning and will be maitained, protected and defended America's own Capitalism systems of liberty and entrepreneurships forever by America's own constitutions as America's own Founding Fathers' intentions and decisions. God bless America and America's own foundation and constitutions for America's own greatness. I Pray Mr.Trump will choose Gov.Bush together for America's own greatness by Gov.Bush's proven successful governing leadership experiences which created massive jobs and even left over 9 billions dollars of surplus for his successor's raining days.

Boy, another error here. He states that Reagan was never a leading man and never made it to the top of the Marquee. Wrong again. Not saying he was a great actor but he was a good one and did plenty of dramatic parts as the lead. He was only a supporting actor in the 1930's and did leads from then on in the 40's and 50's, either in B's or "A's". All you need to do is check his filmography and watch some of his films. BTW, if you go back and check his critics reviews of his work as an actor before his political views surfaced and he became a politician, there were generally good. Also, the line about "Jimmy Stewart for Governor, Ronald Reagan for Best Friend", was a quote from Jack Warner, RR's boss at Warner Bros. for many years and not the guy he mentions. Perhaps the author gets the politics part correct in his book but he is sure getting the Hollywood parts wrong in several places.

this is great stuff. i would have asked brands how he would predict reagan, if resurrected as a cogent 50 year old, would assess the performance record of the now 36 years of 'reaganomics', in terms of his purported objective of shrinking the budget deficit and generating broad prosperity. given RWR's apparent ridigity, i'm thinking he would just flash an aw shucks grin & tell us a funny story instead, and we would laugh and laugh.

I never found Reagan a very compelling statesman, more of an actor playing his role directed by greater minds in the Republican party. In the end, history or luck was favorable to him. In retrospect, Corporate greed, Nation building, fascism, evolved and worsen from there. Never a fan of Reagan, less and less with each passing year.

Reagan won 49 states in the 1984 election receiving 525 electoral votes to Mondale's 13. I believe the American people disagreed with your theory.
