I watched another video, where the owner had the same name boat, was taking up the teak. He just filled the holes and put down a paint type substance. It looked good. Just wanted to pass it on. Love you guys😊
@sailingjoco2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much !! 💜 It all depends on what you find beneath the teak. AND if you plan to fix it properly or not lolol The easy way is to just sand, fill & slap some paint on and in a lot of cases I’m sure that would do just fine. But we want to make it super sonic strong!!!

It's so difficult not to keep watching, even when I have the back (Skippers) cabin to renovate etc. But I can do that tomorrow. Keep Tracking. David

Haha sorry to take you away from your refit - but it’s for a good cause 😂 Watching others do work DOES oddly make you feel somewhat accomplished tho. Go figure 👌👌

We got them all finished in the episode ! Was a lot of work but now they’re pretty much perfect so that’s ok with us :) it was a good use of an evening haha!

Look for a thread file to keep in your tool box. They are perfect for repairing threads. Keep it up, lookfor you each week😊

We should add this to our wish list lolol Right now we’re only privy to workin with what we got, and it worked so that’s good for now haha! Thank you so much for watching every week , we want to try and post more often but it’s just super hard with everything going on! We appreciate you :)

Love your channel. Both for travel and how to do it. I watch some for how not to. I joined Boat works today when I bought my boat knowing Iwas going to watch all Andy's videos to learn from an expert. Well worth it. Keep up the good work.

Hey Joe thanks so much we appreciate it!! We’re still learning lol but doing the best we can. Andy definitely knows what he’s talkin about , Jeff has binge watched all his videos too! Always good to get multiple opinions on things and then make your own call at the end 👌👌

The best way to fix those bolts is with a lathe. Maybe they have one at the yard you can use. I know it’s a long shot but it’s worth asking. Good luck in the yard. Enjoy your videos.
@sailingjoco2 ай бұрын
We got em all fixed up real nice ! But if we have any issues with them upon reinstall we’ll def look for that👌👌 yard life is pretty tough, exactly like camping. Dont wanna stay here too long !!!

Top tip on the tap & die kit. Been removing the cleats on my 352's and that's the exact same issue I have with dodgy threads on bolts I need to reuse. Now ordered a kit.

Awesome !! So happy Jeff’s tip helped you out ! Dont forget the cutting oil :)

@sailingjoco the tap and die set was the difference between success and failure today. New cleats now on my 352. Thanks Jeff. Love your videos.

if you have an angle grinder, you can taper the end of the bolt such that the leading thread ramps in rather than being full depth. You won't need to chase the threads, though it's a good idea.. sort of like sharpening a drill but just a bit deeper than thread depth is plenty.

Good work on the bolts! I have a 352 too, and I just mounted brand new Genoa tracks, and there were A LOT of bolts, 45 per side! I got some 90 NEW bolts, quite expensive! I’m looking forward watching when you open up the deck to check for moisture. In a previous comment I mentioned that I recaulked the entire deck a few months ago. The other day I ran over the deck with a moisture measuring tool, and it seems all good. No alarms thus far, so I’m content so far. But very keen on seeing what you find under the glass fibre deck, perhaps plywood in areas where structural sthrength is needed, such as under cleats, Genoa tracks? I know for a fact that this is the case under the windlass and ventilation, but not sure on the sides. Good luck with the hard work! Christofer

Wow big job for you! Yup we are planning to replace the wood under the Genoa tracks for sure , we think that’s why some of the screw holes came up a bit dirty and wet;it makes sense anyway. We’ll see !

On Sailing Catalpa they replaced their Chainplates and we’re going buy new bolts until they did the math. A bench top polisher was a cheaper alternative to restore the bolts.

Yes !! It’s amazing how much things cost when they’re ’marine grade’ . You’re led to think that because it’s ‘marine’ it’s better quality, but that 100% is not always the case! Better to rehab existing as long as its integrity is still in place. Waste not , want not ! They don’t make em like they used to , etc etc 😉 Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed!

To clean up the aluminum cleats sand out the scratches with finer and finer sand paper up to 220, then polish using a buffing wheel with progressive polishing compounds, it will end up looking just like polished stainless.
@sailingjoco2 ай бұрын
Good tip thanks for sharing ! We have the aluminum portlights to clean up as well, we will try it out !
@sv_skidbladnir2 ай бұрын
Aluminium is really difficult to refinish. Maybe sand or bead blasted with a clear 2 part coating or anodising if available. The blasting will give the closest to a even finish all over. Possible to DIY anodise with basic equipment. power supply or car battery and sulphuric acid (battery acid)

Thanks for the info ! That sure sounds like a lot of work just to make em prettier since they’re already functional. Unfortunately that’s gonna be lower on the priority list for now. Gotta hold out for a HR sponsorship 😂😂😂
