The 300, what a brutish sweethart of an engine. In the late 90's a friend purchased an early 80's F150 2x. Pretty sure it was just an XL. 300, auto, no a/c. Only power anything were the brakes and steering. Truck always had a miss like it was about a half cylinder down. Couldn't even notice it in normal driving. That truck moved his family from Norfolk VA to RI for a change in duty station, was his daily for an entire shore tour as an instructor, then back to Norfolk again. 5ish years give or take before figuring out the miss. Hole in a piston. Throw a grenade at a 300 and it throws it back because it feels insulted you didn't give it a challenge.

Maybe the 268 cam is just too much overlap with the turbo? or in general? (I am not familiar with the 268 in the 300)...(the 260° I am familiar with)....The stock cam vs. Comp 260 in a Naturally Aspirated 300-6's is a different story (Like I say maybe the 268 is too much, or hindering the turbo from building low rpm boost? IDK) The 260 with 1.7 Rockers gives a little more lift without too much more overlap, and has WAAAAY More power/low end (1500 RPM) than the stock cam, which was the first cam I had in it when I put 4bbl on it. (Though when I overhauled it I put comp cam at same time.)....I built one 1978 block .020 over, mostly stock, HV Oil Pump, 260° Comp Cam, 1.7:1 Rockers, EFI split manifolds, 4bbl Clifford intake w/edelbrock 4bbl...Went into a F350 Dually Flatbed truck with a NP435 and Gear Vendors (Had 4.10 gears, I shifted it like a 7 speed, when under heavy load.)

awesome, I tried to supercharge my 300-6 about 20 years ago with a blowthrough carb setup with a M90 off a Thunderbird Supercoupe but never the street drivability good enough. Naturally asperated It cranked out 242hp/323tq with Offy, Holley 450cfm 4bbl, comp 260H, and headers. I really should build another one, and it would probably run well with a Holley Sniper, still have a set of forged .050 pistons on the shelf. The engine was a blast in the Mud/Rocks with a NP435 behind it in my 83' Bronco.
