Nothing like a sailboat maintenance montage with badass music. Actually pretty sick. Also diggin' Ed's Borderlands-style intro.

Wes & Kate, Great story. Lots of new sailors can learn a lot from you. Thank You! Best of luck to both of you. Keep the Videos coming.

Watching this felt like exactly what happened on my boat during my first few journeys. Specifically the overheating, clogged raw water cooling and then finally the impeller going and having to get rescued. Glad to see you got it all resolved in the end.

Hey Wes, started to watch from the beginning and felt compelled to finally comment on what a great job your doing on the videos and the boat projects. I really admire your mindful approach to life like when the guy approaches you while on your tube rowing out to your new boat. You could have said "what a jerk" but you said "I would have done the same thing". Anyhow, keep it up brother!

I recently found your channel. I began doing searches for cool Bahamas boat destinations like "Thunderball Grotto" or "Cruising Abacos". There was always a "Wicked Salty" video that matched. I started watching more, and then began to appreciate watching your journey and watching you learn along the way. (You knew quite a bit before... lol) I started from the beginning. Best of luck and believe in what you're doing. It works. Oh, and stay grounded - part of the awesomeness of these video are you two and your personalities. You're both "good people". Thanks for sharing.

Keep a close eye on your coolant level and fresh water temperature going forward. Going that low is not normal, there could a tiny leak somewhere yet on your radar.

If you affix a wooden horn on each spreader about a foot from mast, you can hook your flag halyard so it is not close to the mast to slap.

Wes and Kate, don’t know which one is doing the editing but you just sent me to techno-nerd heaven by filming a few seconds of pre-launch engine access tasks, oil level, raw water flow checklisting, etc!!! Your audio is much better this time -- got a mic windscreen on? Now that you have electrical toys installed, you will need to more carefully watch what goes into and what comes out of your batteries. Ed may be cool but you paid him for some labor you are smart enough to do yourself. I can help you learn electrical stuff if desired. Hurry up and sail south where I’m docked before you need to buy hydronic cabin heaters. Take care of each other, train "shark-dog" how to doggie-paddle to the swim ladder, and keep the great vids coming!

I'm the one who does the video/artsy stuff and on responding to people on the youtube channel, Kate does most of the Facebook. I'm glad you like what you are seeing! Ed is a legend. He gave me his personal spare steering wheel(a larger one) from his house at no costs and loaned me all his charts! I'm going to be doing most of the future work on the boat myself from now on. And we are hurrying, we're in NJ!

We can see you guys have been very busy, to say the least. As a Bon Voyage to you two. I have a tip for you that I had learned through my sailing adventures. If you haven't yet, you will go aground in shallow waters. How you calibrate your depth sounder is critical. I chose a time at low tide or rising tide and going dead slow, very gently. I drifted into a shallow spot so I came to a gentle stop and touched the bottom. At that moment I set the "keel offset" to -1 ft. them reversed into deeper waters. After that I maintained the practice to never go above idle in forward, if my depth was below 1.0 ft. The biggest sin you can make when going aground is to do so with any amount of headway on. If you do, you will ride up onto the shallow and that greatly increase the effort required to reverse off if possible. I see you have an advantage I never had. That being a GPS chart plotter in cockpit with the ability to constantly know your position transposed on a chart. I suggest you still do the offset as described. In practice as soon as you see your depth reading go to .9 or below you should be forewarned to pay more attention and slow down to dead slow. I'm excited for you both and all the fun and experiences that lay ahead. Best wishes.

Thanks for the good word sailingsolar. I would like to regret to inform you that we had just went aground here in NJ! Stay tuned for our us going aground video to come. I'll be sure to check the exact depth I feel us go aground if it happens again so I can write it down and set it after. You know what they say, "You haven't been around, until you've gone aground." Cheers

I just started watching your videos from the beginning and it seems that what a friend told me a long time ago may be true. He said "A boat is just a hole in the water that you throw money into." :) I hope that turns out to be an over-exaggeration for you guys. I'm loving your videos so far.

I will soon be retiring from the military and my goal is to purchase a sailboat live on it and have epic adventures... My main concern however is what you are having done in this video. I am worried it going to cost an exuberant amount of money... How much did it cost you guys and how long did it take them to get it finished

I am afraid to know how that work cost.
@WickedSalty10 жыл бұрын
Talk about nearly doubling total costs. But very well worth what we put into it. We're under way now and I am still new and going through a lot of firsts. Knowing when the wind is climbing steadily, having the computer charts, and seeing depth all in front of your face while behind the helm is essential without auto steering or wind vane with little time to plan trips and dealing with unexpected stops when the seas get rough.
@maxgelman860410 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there is nothing worse than having boat work done at a marina. The work is usually crazy expensive and usually done improperly, but I think the radar and chart plotter upgrades were a smart move. Also, hope you have a good VHF radio with a high output antenna. I have been looking at those Ericson 30+ and I think those are really well designed boats.
