A couple hours at Haulover Inlet. The water was too rough, so most boats turned around and went back to the Haulover Sandbar but some braved the big waves and got tossed around..

The beautiful sport fisher at the beginning just elegantly glides through the chop. At 0.41 you can see what that Carolina Flare bow was designed to do. The distinctive Custom Carolina hulls were designed specifically for Hatteras and Oregon Inlets.

Thats not even a real Wakeboard boat. Just a Regal bowrider stern drive with a tower and fancy stickers. No reason he couldn't of gone out. Now a real V drive inboard Wake Boat like a Malibu, Mastercraft, or Supra etc. I agree has no business being out there.

the water inside was perfect.. and the weather was nice.. I was really hoping more would come out from the sandbar and get tempted into the chop, but when they passed the bridge they could see the white caps and went back to the sandbar, not a huge waste for them since they were already partying at the sandbar.

Are there no speed restrictions in these inlets? Genuinely curious, some of these big CC's come hauling ass through there in relation to the other boats. Is that normal, or is that considered inconsiderate
@ZipZapPower
@ZipZapPower 5 жыл бұрын
No speed limits in most of the inlets in Florida, no wake zone starts at the bridge when coming in. I'm not certain, but i hear the thinking is they want boats to have full power available to navigate the inlet and get in and out as fast and safe as possible..

ZipZapPower makes sense. Are the inlets constantly tumultuous, or do they calm down at some point?
@ZipZapPower
@ZipZapPower 5 жыл бұрын
usually calm. only gets a messy when outgoing tide combined with an incoming swell or wind chop.. most days it's dead flat even during tide changes. this year with the hurricane it got a little messier than normal, Haulover gets no where near as crazy as this place in France... kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKmllYCEabCsbpo

Although idling through it seems like the right thing to do for most people it’s better to go into it with some speed to prevent the bow from dipping into the water and slamming into rollers.

Sometimes a bigger boat throws a smaller wake at speed, going slow they just plow through the water making a larger wake which is much worse.

@ZipZapPower

You got it, changing of the tide is what amplifies a bad day, the ocean has to be rough to start with tho. Memorial Day was super calm on the ocean so even with a fast outgoing tide it was relatively calm in the inlet.

Outgoing tide and all the water from the ICW has to exit from the inlets. Tons of output and add a stiff wind against it... Inlets are always the roughest part.

As a boat owner I'd never put myself, my guests and definitely not my boat in these conditions. Poor day for boating.

In these conditions I think a jet ski is better with one person on (not that it always is:)
