Everyone I watched finish this game caught the lady in their arms after defeating Dracula. Erin was the first to let her hit the ground like a sack of potatoes :P

@@ErinPlaysExtras Neither do I honestly, I was just in the middle so I catch her, I thought it was automatic like a mini cutscene. Ok they must add an achievement "Sack of potatoes" if you let the lady fall.😂

What an awesome surprise this has been for all of us Castlevania fans, so left in despair for such a long time. I see it's selling well, so I only hope Konami takes good note. I want to play this sometime so I won't see your playthrough, although I'd love to, but I'm so happy to see you also acknowledge how great and unlikely this was until now...a new Castlevania is closer I feel :)

Well well well, look who it is, Miss Erin of Erin Plays and Erin Plays Extra, it's always great to see new content from you and Mike, I appreciate you both for being my entertainment in this dystopian world of ours, lol. Your NES A-Z has become my background noise while I am gaming, it's fantastic. Thank you for the great entertainment.

I have never played the original version of Haunted Castle myself, but I watched a friend play through it on stream a couple of years ago and it looked nightmarishly difficult in many places. This stream was the first time I've seen this version, and it seems a lot fairer from what I can tell, and the updated graphics look really nice to me as well. Well done, Erin! I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and thanks for showing it to us.
@Overlord814 ай бұрын
Haunted Castle is not difficult, is pretty fair...but like some other japanese developers they made the western ports almost impossible to beat.
@Rocket13774 ай бұрын
Yes, it is extremely difficult. One of the hardest Castlevania games. Even using the extra lives code, it is still nearly impossible to complete.
@Overlord814 ай бұрын
@@Rocket1377 I still think Rondo Of Blood is way more difficult.

52:41 The official release timeline is: Castlevania was released for the FCDS and in Arcades in Japan in Sept of '86, for the NES in North America in Mar of '87 and for the NES in the EU sometime (prior to Cv:II) in '88. Vampire Killer was released for the MSX2 in all regions in Oct of '86. Though this game supposedly existed, in a playable state, as much as a year prior to its official release. Castlevania II: Simon's Quest was released for the FCDS in Japan in Aug of '87 and for the NES in North America and EU in Dec of '88, as a sequel to the FCDS/NES's Castlevania release. Haunted Castle was released in Arcades outside of Japan in Dec of '87 and in Japan in Feb of '88, as a sequel to the Arcade's Castlevania release. Despite the official release dates, many still consider Vampire Killer on the MSX2 to be the first game in the franchise, as it both entered into development and reached a fully playable state before Castlevania did. If you consider the fact that Vampire Killer released in multiple regions simultaneously, it makes sense that it would have been in development longer than if it were released in stages. There also existed photos (of a CRT screen) and articles featuring Vampire Killer's game-play, which predate Castlevania's release. So I suppose the question of which came first, between Castlevania and Vampire Killer, comes down to what you mean by "came". (seems like the punchline to a joke Mike would tell 😆)
@Rocket13774 ай бұрын
Agreed, I think the MSX Vampire Killer was developed first, and then they started work on the Famicom/NES port. The more powerful Nintendo console allowed them to make the game much better, so it evolved from a straight port to basically an all-new game. The MSX version was likely shelved so they could focus their efforts on developing Castlevania, and they only released it after their work on the Nintendo game was completed.

It really looks like a fan made game(an early fan made game) the graphic is really messy, and you can't switch weapons in the Revisited version(it's more like the classic Castlevania). Don't get me wrong I like extras but maybe it could have being better add something more "official" and rare like The Adventure Rebirth or the Sharp version...or if you put a fan made game give me Lecarde Chronicles(those guys deserve it!).

I think you're really going to like Castlevania: Curse of Darkness on the PS2. The reason being, it's a 3D Castlevania game developed in light of the shortcomings of the N64 releases. So it has a similar vibe, but Konami's fixed a lot of the problems the earlier releases had. Also, the initial hero you take charge of has an interesting story and method of combating the hostile environment he's in. The best part is, if you complete the game with this character (named Hector; later seen in the Netflix series), you can then play through the game as Trevor Belmont. And it's not just a 'boss-rush' mode. Trevor has a fully developed play-through, with some really cool features. His game-play is almost a bit Dynasty Warriors-like. Anyway, I think you'll like it. :)

0:55 That was his spirit energy. He was powering up. How great would it be to have a Castlevania type of game for Yu Yu Hakusho? You could switch between the characters to get around. Kurama has his whip and all the plant stuff, Hiei could wall jump and dash really fast. Kuwabara could "Kuwabara"... They could have a mode 7 level with Botan flying on her oar. There could be npc appearances by Jin and Chu and Koenma. It would even be neat if Toguro could be part of the crew. Maybe part of the story could be that Toguro is given a chance at redemption if he helps Yusuke and the team. That setting would work in a Diablo type of game as well. All the different abilities everyone has, and managing your stamina and spirit/demon energy. It would work so well. Instead all we got was that tournament fighter on ps2, and I think there might've been a weird Jp only game on super fami.

Now that you mentioned that, I realized that no Castlevania game (I can think of) has an adjustable difficulty level. I guess, the difficulty varies greatly for Richter or Maria in Rondo and in Castlevania 64 but other than that you cannot adjust the difficulty in any of those games.

The original plays like it's running in slow motion, so you're not missing anything. In fact, if you like the pace at which most Castlevania games play, then I would recommend never playing it.
@PikangsFutaba4 ай бұрын
Revisited overall is much easier... the only thing I would have changed to have a little bit more of a challenge with Dracula in particular is to not have a checkpoint for his 2nd phase... and that also having to use a continue (if you have those enabled in options) forcing the player to restart the stage from the start like... well... every single "classicvania" game.

The original game is awful. It's almost impossible to beat, and only worth it for the music, the challenge, and so you can boast that you have played every Castlevania. This is one the best choices for a remake: taking something terrible and improving upon it in almost every way.
