The original Haunted Castle is only hard because it feels like shit to control, you are at a 50% disadvantage when you pick up the controller and the original Haunted Castle is on the screen.

0:55 That was his spirit energy. He was powering up. How great would it be to have a Castlevania type of game for Yu Yu Hakusho? You could switch between the characters to get around. Kurama has his whip and all the plant stuff, Hiei could wall jump and dash really fast. Kuwabara could "Kuwabara"... They could have a mode 7 level with Botan flying on her oar. There could be npc appearances by Jin and Chu and Koenma. It would even be neat if Toguro could be part of the crew. Maybe part of the story could be that Toguro is given a chance at redemption if he helps Yusuke and the team. That setting would work in a Diablo type of game as well. All the different abilities everyone has, and managing your stamina and spirit/demon energy. It would work so well. Instead all we got was that tournament fighter on ps2, and I think there might've been a weird Jp only game on super fami.

at the ending cutscene, i thought the girl rescued was gonna go down on the hero :P

Good to see they finally gave this game a nice re-release since the original was mostly a cheap, unfair quarter-muncher.

This is a good game. Highlight for me is the Frankenstein boss. Challenging and even a bit creepy. Make more Castlevania, Konami! And preferably not the Metroidvania stuff.

43:30 The pause here looks weird because in the arcade and pc engine versions, Rick is standing at an altar here. They removed it when they ported it to turbo grafix 16 because it had a cross on it and didn't want to get into any religious controversy in the US. Strangely, they left the candles which are now just floating there lol.

The original game is awful. It's almost impossible to beat, and only worth it for the music, the challenge, and so you can boast that you have played every Castlevania. This is one the best choices for a remake: taking something terrible and improving upon it in almost every way.

Erin + castlevania = Instant watch. Can't wait for the DS ones
