WOW ! I can't believe you had a story in Squares Castle! 50 years ago I went to school in Mentor Ohio and my Cousin took me and my Brothers to the castle and back then there were hippies all over the grounds smoking dope, playing frisbee, playing loud music , dancing. I was 12 at the time and you have brought so many memories back to me about my brothers and cousin visiting squires castle. Thank you! You guys made my day !

Such a shame this beautiful building was left abandoned!
@Knight-of-Sarcasm2 жыл бұрын
It's not really abandoned if that helps? I'm only about an hour-ish from the spot give or take, and families go there daily for picnics, weddings, LARP and SCA events, and many just to explore and be astonished. My local LARP included people from Cleveland who introduced me to the history of Squires and it caught my love for fantasy and history perfectly in the sweet spot. As long as it's loved and taken care of, it cannot be abandoned.

Places give rise to the legends.And legends attract people. This is amazing! Truly appreciate your efforts and eyes to unlock such legendary places before us. Never seen such a beautiful hunted English countryside palace. One thing to admit here that unlike your previous hunted house that looked cursed and shadowy, this one looks very bright and beautiful during day. Even people are seen to enter this building. Nothing to my eyes appears abnormal. Who knows what it turns into during night?
@CuriousHistoryYT2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good point Raju! If we are to believe both places are haunted then the “look” of a building should not have any bearing on the level of haunted activity.

Such a beautiful castle - but such a sad story behind it. When tragedies happen, residual hauntings often happen, which are memory imprints of what happened a long time ago. But in this case, it sounds more like the actual restless spirit of the lady who died in such an unfortunate way. Who knows what she saw in the trophy room - something that was luring her to her death...? You sure always present these stories in a respectful and interesting way. I hope the lady who is haunting the place, finds peace.

@Little Kitty Hi Kitty - You may have missed it, but the only real tragedy of the whole thing was that Mrs. Squire just didn't like living in the place. The legend about her falling and breaking her neck is purely made up... No one died at the castle, at least as far as what's known. But it is a tragedy how the place was vandalized over the years... And just imagine what the BIG house would have been, if this was "just" the Gatehouse!
@LittleKitty222 жыл бұрын
@@slicksnewonenow We don't know what really happened though. Legends are usually true or based on the truth. People don't just make things up, not without gaining anything from it at least.

I know most won't believe me but there is a spirit there. It's been years since it happened me and 2 of my friends went there one night when it was closer to winter. There was absolutely nobody there besides us. We got there at around 8ish, and we sat around for a couple hours and nothing. Around close to 10, the air became colder. I started to get a sharp pain in my back so i and one of my friends took me back to the car. We stopped a little past the sign by the parking lot and my friend turned around. I turned to see a white apperation in the grass by the path. We heard our other friend (who was by the castle) scream, and he came running down the path and past the white figure. We all ran back to the car. There was a thud in the trash can on the way back. We looked inside it but there wasn't any animal inside or running from it. When we got to the car, the friend who screamed said his back was burning. He lifted his shirt, and there were 3 marks on his back that looked freshly made. There was nobody or animal near him. I was an atheist until that night. I will never forget. Thank you for acknowledging the history and sightings at this place.

I wonder how closely related the Squires' of Squires' Castle are related to the branch of Squires' that immigrated to Columbia Township in the 1840s. I used to live in the former second home of "Farmer Squire", in what was his "Townhome" in the center of town, which later went to his son. Their other home, the farmhouse, sat on a road that was later named for him, Squires Road.

What a beautiful place but so sad that it’s been gutted on the inside and is just an empty shell of its former glory. I just don’t get the mindset of those that willfully and purposely destroy other peoples property or belongings, from cemeteries to old historical houses. The few making it bad for the many. I would have loved to have been able to see what it looked like on the inside when it was a private home. Sounds like the wife was a right witch though, wanting to spend all her time in town and not appreciative of all that peace and quiet of the country and “was bored”. My Grandma always said there was no such thing as being bored, only being a boring person. I am inclined to believe she was exactly right in this case.

It is possible. Such a tragedy there. There are reported haunts in town as well.

@@CuriousHistoryYT Wisconsin has a lot of haunted spots, as well. I heard that the opera house in Cincinnati, was built on top of a former cemetery. It is said to be haunted. I know you're in the north, but a drive south, may just provide some great places to film at.

I agree David. Cincinnati, Columbus, and Marietta Ohio are on the list!

I don't buy that story about her falling and breaking her neck but it was certainly entertaining Thanks again for a great story

So this lady went into that room alone. Got scared and ran off, then broke her neck and died? Yeah, no. The dude obviously killed her. How would the story of her being scared by something that caused her to run off and fall, be known if she was alone?? That makes zero sense.

When I die, I know of a few people I will haunt. MY CHILDREN! bwa ha ha. They are all adults. I think it would be fun.
