my son and I were there on 07/26/2019, we did not get the chance to go upstairs because we came in about 35 minutes before closing time. It was out first time, but had the chance to tour downstairs instead., ( no fee) but with all honesty, i'm glad I did not get to go upstairs, it looks very scary.

Clarence Walrath was a lawyer (Son of Chancellor Reuben Hyde Walrath) and then became a Catholic Priest. (The brother to Mansfield Tracy Walrath, also a writer. and a lawyer. Who was Ellens's husband..). Maybe Clarence as a Priest, in this life anyway and looking back upon it all, did not want the pictures taken? he ended up being the son who took over the money and had to give it out to Ellen and the family only as needed. He did his best toward his nephews and nieces and even toward Ellen knowing it was not eas for her. She was upset with him for turning her daughter toward becoming a nun. She tried to forgive but they were Protestants and she found it hard to understand. But she loved her daughter and knew Clarence meant well.

@@RattledEditor It is written in a book on Ellen Walrath. TY! (You are very welcome). The book is wonderful. Cannot tell you right now the exact title, as do not have it right now. But it would bee on Amazon I believe you could find it or in a library perhaps? Not sure hwo inteerested you are, but really it is a great book! She did not have an easy life, but in the end. She became a lawyer herself. She came from quite a notable family in the area. Very strong willed person! Am sure all important people knew them in Saratoga while alive. and well in this lovely city.

Ellen Harding Walrath had a hard life with her husband who did have mental problems. The dad was a political figure and her own biological father as well. She came from Kentucky originally. Married her stepbrother, She took many beatings from her husband who did go away nights and come home after drinking too much, but it was because he mentally was having trouble. There were many situations in her life that went on. She really did have it hard and had several children. WAs one of the founders of the Daughters Of The Amerian Revolution. Worked for our government and also became a lawyer in later years. But this could have been the cause of many conversations in her bedroom?
