The daffodils are in bloom! How I love daffodils! They are hands down my favorite flowers! Kat, I love the way you framed the woods as a 'succession of time.' Brilliant! I think of that all the time as I am walking through the woods. You can see in the landscape the way the flora have changes over time and through different hands. I really like the story of the sisters. I don't like what happened to them, but I like the way their lives have rippled through history and continue to inspire women and men alike. Good on you Kat, for being a skeptic! I am too, I am more scientifically minded myself 😉 Being scared in in the woods, especially at night, is just human nature. Wolves, bears, unseen things, etc. The body naturally put one into a state of hyper awareness (or, as I like to think about it... a susceptibility to 'be spooked' and believe in ghost stories🤣😂🤣) I love the way you rolled your eyes when you said "they buried them far enough apart so they couldn't conspire." For too long have intelligent/strong-willed women been cast aside, called out as witches, or kept out of the 'clubs'. I just love how the sister's story is still relevant in framing this reality in 2021. The Roman history of Britain is always fascinating to me. I love how you two 'walk through history'

Awesome comment! Couldn't agree more, Daffs are just the quintessential spring flower, hopeful little things. We are lucky to live in an area that has a particularly long population history but rarely do you physically see the movement of time in this way. I have no doubt that adds to the feeling of 'spooky'. Very emotionally sensitive/intelligent people could probably end up feeling oppressed and connected to the sisters because the surroundings have changed so little, you can hear, see and smell their last moments, very powerful stuff. I'm always interested in ghostly experiences and how people feel about places/objects, its bloody fascinating! But as a science orientated person I just believe it to be purely psychological, not that I think it's an invalid experience, the opposite actually. I agree, although the 'reasons' may vary, the results are the same, violence against women, oppressed and vulnerable people. I love how people are drawn to this event and take strength from it, it's their legacy, it's rather poetic. Sorry if that was gloomy! Hope you and your lovely family are well, much love, Kat and Ceri ❤

That’s one great Roman Road. There are a few Roman roads in the Peak District and they’re proper ankle twisters! Impressive trees as well. Another wonderful journey to enjoy. A sad tale about the women, I'm sure the distance between the burial sites contributed significantly to them being unable to conspire with each other. And the fact they'd been bludgeoned to death! 🙄 Obviously the weather is "warming up", first video I have seen without the brightly coloured Kat hat. We call them beanies. I can't say I have seen a poltergeist but I have seen a UFO 👽 Take care and keep filming 🙏

I love that you declared yourself a sceptic from the off! Also, when you said ‘orbs’ I immediately thought of Rambling Sid Rumpo (ask your dad)! Incidentally, if you ever walk the Great Glen Way you have to visit ‘The Fairy Glen’. Like my friend said to me, “I’ll let you discover it for yourself, then once you’ve told me what you think about it, I’ll tell you how I felt”!

@@TeaInValhalla - As an older person we don’t take to canvas as much these days as we used to, preferring more creature comforts. The way we did the Great Glen Way though was one of my better ideas. We went with Caledonian Discovery on their barge Fingal which acts as a floating B&B and follows you along the Way. So successful have they become they now have a second barge, Ros Cranna. You can’t miss them on the Caledonian Canal in their ‘Karma Chameleon’ colours (“red, gold and green....”). At first glance I thought it might be a bit expensive, but once aboard all you have to pay for is alcohol - everything else is thrown in. Tiny cabins but just the best nights sleep! They do all sorts of trips including Munro bagging and the beauty of it is if you can’t walk for any reason, you can stay aboard, borrow one of their bikes or kayak or sail down the canal! Brilliant fun and really relaxed! Look ‘em up on t’interwebs!

Great video guys. My father is convinced he saw a ghost when I was born (I say it was me in later life coming back to haunt him, lol). There are lots of witchcraft sites around the area we live, which is probably the same for most of the country. It's amazing how far we have come over the years. A few hundred years ago, we picked on vulnerable people (usually, but not always, women - a guy was hung along the road from us for being a warlock) for being 'witches'. Now we simply have social media lol! It must be warm today, Kat hasn't her wonderful hat on! All the best, Brian and Sah.

Another great video :-) Very interesting but saddening story of the Handsel sisters, although I find it sort of reassuring that their memory persists today. Is the 4th tree still there albeit fallen, or has it been removed / decayed over time? I have certainly been scared in the outdoors at night but that is just me being a fool :-) I've never actually seen anything and I would wager that ghosts etc. don't exist. Having said that I take an evidence based approach so I am open to changing my mind (and then doing the laundry a few times for obvious reasons!!). Kat what are you going to do the evening that Ceri goes back to the wood in the dark haha ;-) All the best folks, KT.

Oooooooh No Kat Hat!!! It would be interesting to know the name of the Roman Road (if you know it) or, at least, where it led to (both directions). The trees clearly came later but are also clearly sympathy to the road (so it must be an important one). I saw Ceri bugger off and do a runner while Kat was telling us about witches - I assumed it was a hex or something lol. The fallen silver Birch is now (of course) a fallen green Birch. I don’t know what your “What’s that?” was. Not enough context and not enough of a view (freezing the video didn’t help me much). My only conclusion is that I am fairly sure I don’t know even if it is was much more obvious. (there are things we know we don’t know and all that!) Walking through Merc will never be the same again … nice job guys 8)

Is it a coincidence that the supposed Grovely wood witches were called the 'Handsel' sisters and in the mid 1800's the first English editions of Grimms' Fairy Tales appeared containing the famous story of 'Hansel and Gretel' and their run in with a witch in a dark wood?
@Wotsitorlabart Жыл бұрын
It is patently obvious that the story of the four sisters is a typical local legend to explain the position of the four beech trees in relation to each other. Even in 1737 four women do not get murdered without some kind of investigation taking place. Are there any local magistrate's records from the time detailing the case? Of course not. What's the betting that the earliest version of the story is Victorian?
@Wotsitorlabart Жыл бұрын
Beside the supposed murder of the four sisters being obviously nonesense there is also the fact that there was no smallpox epidemic in Wiltshire in 1737. This is from 'A History of the County of Wiltshire - Vol 5' (1957): 'Smallpox was endemic in the 18th century, becoming occasionally alarmingly epidemic, and ranking high among the causes of child mortality. Chippenham suffered heavily from smallpox in 1711, and Salisbury in 1723, when 1,244 persons contracted the disease, of whom 165 died. An epidemic in Calne lasted from July 1731 until October 1732 and caused 176 deaths.' In the rest of the entry there is no mention of the supposed 1737 outbreak and the deaths of over 100 people. It took me about five minutes to find the above.

Hi guys, me and the team I’m in have been to these big woods many times. Think we must of started from the other end as we went to find the bunkers, we got some weird experiences in one of the bunkers (videos on our channel of that investigation) “dorset paranormal investigators” on KZbin On another visit we went to find these witches trees, but like you guys it didn’t feel atmospheric that many had sensed, but our lead investigator thought he heard a woman’s voice near him which was strange. We’re off to grovely again soon to find the abandoned house that still stands somewhere here. 👍🏻👻 All the best
