I never saw Parker as trans. I always thought Parker was a boy who was abused by a mother who tried to turn him into a girl. In the scene from Insidious 2 we clearly see that he is extremely uncomfortable with being a girl and it's not of his own will. He takes off his wig and shouts "my name is Parker". The mother says Parker is the name your father gave you. Your name is Marilyn. She is imposing it onto him and he can barely repeat it. Him castrating himself was just a result of his trauma and not because he was trans. At that stage in life he was probably brainwashed by his mother and extremely damaged. It's also why he wanted to possess Josh as a child. Because he wanted to relive his life as a boy. It's a pretty sad story. The mother was the one who wanted a girl. She didn't have one so she decided to turn him into one.

Great deep dive! Insidious 3 is actually my favorite in the franchise. I found Stephanie Scott a more compelling main character than any of the other films had, and it gave Lynn Shaye the most to do of all the films, and she did a lot with it. My ranking would be 3, 1, 5, 2, and 4. But I like all of them, which means it joins Evil Dead as the only horror franchises 5 films deep that are all solid. Don't hit me, I haven't seen Scream 4-6 yet. I'm working on it. 😱😁

The first film honestly scared the hell out of me back in middle school. what I loved so much was the soundtrack….. the heavy use of string instruments was super unsettling and I loved it 🖤. Great video as always.

Honestly this franchise rocks , the money difference speaks for itself . Looove your makeup , Lin Shayne is an overlooked scream queen I would say omg . Honestly these directors are huge inspiration for us . Our thoughts are pretty similar on the franchise . Even tho insidious 3 is the weakest ( not bad ) film , I still appreciate the different approach it took , by having a grieving teenager with a problematic life but still with an acting dream. I found it cute

Seeing all those old reviews by Chris Stuckmann and Jeremy Jahns has made me realize I am starting to get old I was 17 when the first Insidious came out in 2011 and I remember watching it day one in theaters , my god time is going by too fast 😂😭

This was such a fun and informative watch. The intro, the make up, the whole thing was so well done. I'm sad that it's over now. I mentioned this story on Royal Horror's Insidious video and I think you'll find it funny. I only have this one Insidious story. Anyway, last October when we still had cable. I fell asleep listening to AMC's Fear Fest. I forget what movie. But in the middle of the night I woke up to the loudest screaming I've ever heard. I was groggy and confused and terrified. It was Lin Shaye in Insidious screaming at ghosts or about ghosts at the top of her lungs! It was that scene near the end where her and the family were having that therapy session thing/seance ghost fight. It took me like two minutes to figure out what was even happening. Once I realized it was Insidious I started to calm down. That's a very scary movie in a dark bedroom at 1 AM when it literally wakes you up! Well that was my Insidious story haha

Another amazing deep dive! I've said it before and will probably say for every deep dive video you do, but I always learn something new from them. Especially with the amount of research you put into these. Like for one I actually had no idea that Danielle Bisutti was in Chapter 2. I believe I had seen her in some small roles on some shows I used to watch but she blew me away with her performances as Freya in the God of War video games. Her performance especially in God of War Ragnarök was one of my favorites of the game and she definitely became one of my favorite characters from the game. But thanks again for fantastic deep dive Kylie! Also I really love your makeup and outfit in this!

(I guess pennywise set the bar high lol) didn’t know the composer plays the demon in insidious that’s rad!! love the jeremy jahns and chris stuckmann refs lol-- another great yt critic/reference is deepfocuslens, she’s fantastic! great editing as well! these fly by. wasn’t really into insidious when I saw the first one but this has me wanting to revisit it, I always find the directors’ (/director’s) perspective to be really interesting and you found fantastic clips it’s cool to see where they took the franchise bc I tapped out lol- the fx on the last key look gnar! might just have a lil insidious marathon this week lol. the disrespect horror gets in critic world is unreal. at least pre-get out I guess lol. even though rosemary’s baby won an Oscar back in the day. horror movies are ‘real’ movies, especially nowadays when everything seems to be genre-fusion. yet another slappin deep dive! these just keep getting better and better!

Back then a lot of critics including Roger Ebert rated movies out of 4 which I find to be super bizzare nowadays so Roger Ebert rated the first one a 2.5/4 and Chris Stuckmann rated it a 4/4 so basically the equivalent of a perfect rating.

Leigh Whannell has an odd ability to write really good, unplanned sequels. Saw 2 and 3 were really good and follow on so well from the first one, same with Insidious 2 (which is actually my favourite in the series). Also, I believe that Parker isn't trans and he was not written with malice. If anything it showcases that people are more likely to be dangerous when they're not allowed to be their true selves i.e. trans/queer people are not a problem, but forcing them to be cis/straight is a problem (I hope that makes sense). It's problematic in some ways, the same way people portray mental health in horror films, but I think we can all just learn from it and enjoy the film regardless.
